Sarah | 18550 comments As for refs, we don't have many. I think they have different rules when they come about. I know some have been legally binding (AV) whilst others were advisory. I've known about 3 - Scottish independence (which i wasn't allowed to vote on not being Scottish), the Alternative Voting system and the EU one. I have to say i'm not sure how it works with regards to passing. I'll have to check it out.

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Off to see Dusturbed, Breaking Benkamin, Saint Asonia and Alter Bridge this evening. Super pumped even though with all the shootings arpund the country ptobably gonna be full cavity searches for everyone to get in. Not really. I hope. That being said because so far the venue has had classic rock, country and dave matthews band (dont know where to classify him) this is their first rock concert amd they have enhanced security and additional rules and restrictions for tonight. Then the next concert is Phish and they seem to be prepared for very lax security for that. Some reason they posted rules for both disturbed and phish concerts together

Janice (jamasc) | 59896 comments No Travis with drunk texting?

I just got home from a wedding and had a lot of fun. I won't tell you about my wardrobe malfunction or .... Well, use your imagination. (All fixed before I walked into the church.)

The groom and his friends are all hockey players. I thought the MC was joking when he said that the shirts had to stay on until after the speeches. Apparently not! No joke. Let me just say - eye candy.

Headache in the morning. I've already started with the Tylenol.

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments Travis of NNY wrote: "Just woke up. I have no voice. I must have rocked out hard enough then. What an awesome night"

Must have? Are you in doubt as to how hard you rocked? LOL.
I saw Disturbed in May and they were awesome. Saint Asonia too!

I've been feeling sort of yucky for the last couple of days. Dizzy, nausea, sensitive to light and sound. When it started Saturday I thought I was getting a migraine, so I took a pain pill and went to bed. The feeling came back mid-morning on Sunday when I was away from home with nothing to do but bear it until I got home. Rest on the couch seemed to help, but the feeling came back shortly before leaving for a cook-out at some friends' house. We had to leave early because I was feeling so bad. Of course everyone there said I'm probably pregnant. (eek!)
I'm Feeling a little better today, but still not well. If I move too fast I get really dizzy and nauseas again. I put a call request with MDLive (a program my company is enrolled in that lets you talk to a doctor on the phone without having to go to a clinic). The Dr. I spoke with thinks my problem is that I have fluid behind my ears causing the dizzy feelings. Told me to take an OTC decongestant and called in an RX for a nasal steroid. Hopefully that will help. It is really hard to function when feeling dizzy.

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments Oh, and I made this really yummy pina colada cake to take to my friends'. My hubby was walking the little dogs while I was getting ready for bed and he was going to put the leftover cake away when he got done.... our big dog decided he'd put it away instead. I walked into the kitchen to find him with his front paws on the counter and his head buried in the cake pan!

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Sounds legit Kimey. My mother has has similar symptoms before and thats what it was or similar.

message 2272: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments Thanks, everyone. I'm somewhat better today. Less dizzy feeling, but sort of floaty, like a strong breeze would blow me away... but oxymoronically, I also feel like my head weighs a ton.

I have to go out of town tomorrow for training on a new software we are using at work. I have to be at my office by 6:30 am to meet the others that are going so we can drive down together. That means I have to leave my house by 5:45... I'm so not looking forward to getting up that early. :( The silver lining is that the training was originally scheduled to start at 8:00 and they pushed it back to 9:00 since we have so far to drive.

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments has everyone's home page changed. I have no tab to click on for just groups and then the friend side of things is all different. I hate it

message 2274: by Janice, Moderator (last edited Jul 12, 2016 08:49PM) (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59896 comments The group tab is hiding under the pull down menu in your profile - "My Discussions".

I'm not a fan of the new homepage either. In fact, I'm going to bookmark the "My Discussions" under my profile and circumvent the new homepage.

message 2275: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments I changed back to the old home page and plan to use it for as long as it's possible...

message 2276: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Thanks for the help. I was pretty close to just closing my goodreads account. I dislike the format that much

message 2277: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments Travis, Did you change back to the old format? Do you know how to do it?
I used the new format for 4 or 5 days but couldn't get used to it. I hope they don't do it mandatory in the future, and always exist the old site as an option.

I'm afraid I get the impression the option to keep the old site will eventually be removed.

It's not changed for me yet.

message 2279: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments They are now in final testing for homeoage. They been through alpha and beta it will be thr honepage shortly according to feedback group which people seem to think goodreads is only listening to positive feedback as most complaints have not seen any changes. I looked over there a bit ago. For me I was on goodreads using it clicked to look up a book and mark it as currently reading then clicked to go back home and it was all changed. Happens just that fast. I wasn't happy to put in mildly

I don't like the idea, to be honest.

My home page changed a long time ago, at the beginning of all this craziness. As I said I used it a few days and then changed it back. At that point I had almost forgot about the new home page... Too bad...

message 2282: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments I changed to the new homepage ages ago. I find it great. It made everything I used on the old page more accessible and easy for me.

Funny how we all use the same thing different ways.

message 2283: by Sandra, Moderator (last edited Jul 13, 2016 05:49AM) (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments That's something I think GR should work on. It would be great to be able to somehow customize your home page in order to feature the things you use more.

message 2284: by Lynn (new)

Lynn | 2974 comments I've just switched over and I'm not seeing a huge amount of difference .....

message 2285: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59896 comments The biggest complaint I have with the new page is that they've taken away the tab for group discussions from the homepage. I currently have it set to "Discussions, Group". I rarely look at the "Updates" tab.

How do you all access the group discussions? Do you switch back and forth between the tabs?

message 2286: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Yep i like the tab I mostly check discissions

Ah yes, I can see what you mean now. I never really looked at that tab, hence why I didn't think there was any real difference

message 2288: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments I usually check my groups through the notifications. If I have been off for a while I g to the group main page and select "unread" threads to be sure I'm not missing too much.

message 2289: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I have gotten used to the new format and can usually find what I want. I get email notices for discussion updates, but mostly I check under "unread" to keep up with things. What I really hate is the Android mobile app on my tablet. I avoid it if I can! I usually use my iPod to update my books I am reading and the On-line version for when I am at work.

message 2290: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59896 comments I think it's interesting how everyone uses the website differently. When I first started GR's, I found the discussion tabs almost right away. I click on the first "new" message for whichever group is on the top, read it, then click on "unread" - systematically going through all the unread messages. Then I click on "Home" and start the process over again for the next group on the list.

I only use notifications for specific things, and request that they only show on the webpage - no email. ACK!

message 2291: by Sandra, Moderator (last edited Jul 14, 2016 06:03AM) (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments I set my account to receive emails for very few things. I don't need my inbox to be even messier. Actually I filter GR emails from my inbox, and read them in their specific folder. That helps me don't get distracted with GR (again) when I'm trying to reply emails, etc.

I turned off the notifications for groups I'm not being active in. And even in the two groups I'm active, I occasionally turn notifications off for threads I'm not following. The typical case is topplers. If I'm not participating, after wishing luck to everybody, I turn off the notifications, since topplers means 10 or 12 threads being very active for many days. This way I don't miss the "other" stuff.

A couple of months ago I set my home page to see only my friends reviews. I really make a point to take a look at every new review of each of my friends (at least I do my best), and having them mixed with status updates, and comments in groups I don't even join was doing it hard. This way I have less new updates each day to read, and that means I can read them all.
It has worked pretty well. I love the social part of GR, but my free time is limited (as everyone's) so I try to enjoy it the best I can spending a reasonable amount of time on it. That means more time to read. :)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments Wow, everyone must have been really busy around here. I logged in to check in on what all I've missed in everyone's lives here, and there haven't been any new posts since the last time I logged in. I really expected to see 50+ posts!

I hope everyone is well and having a great time and just been too busy to check in for that reason and not because life has gotten crazy or bad things have happened.

My work has been really busy and I tend to avoid computers on the weekends so that is why I haven't checked in. Nothing particularly good or bad going on. We're working on getting a new payroll system started at my company and I'm the one heading up the project. That combined with all of my normal work has been keeping me occupied. I'm really excited about getting this new system going though, it should be a real time saver!

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments Kimey, I hope all the effort you are putting in this make things much easier later!

Stephanie, Hawaii??? Wow! That's what I call a move!

We are in the middle of summer vacations and having some far. At this moment enjoying my husband, who was away for three weeks and came back a couple of days ago. He is leaving again for ten days soon, so we are trying to have as much fun as possible with the kids.

My maternal grandmother is turning 90 next November, and I'm going to visit her for her birthday. So for the first time since we moved here nearly 6 years ago I'm on my way to spend 10 days in Uruguay.

message 2299: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Hubby has wanted to move back since he left after being in the Army. An opportunity has presented itself for him so our little family is making the move :)
I'm nervous but excited :)

message 2300: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I've been pretty quiet. Been away on a boating holiday up north. It was great fun. Beautic scenery, canals, an interesting view of Manchester from travelling on a boat around the quays, and the wildlife were all highlights. There were 5 boats in convoy and it was nice to meet some new people. We also ate communally which I've not done for ages which was lovely. I also got to drive a 70ft boat for the first time (ours is only 58ft). Sad it's all over. Back to work today and over half of my clients cancelled. I guess it's the sun making people happy and wanting to spend time in thier back garden or down the pub instead of sitting in my therapy room. We are having a heatwave. Looks like it will last a week at least. I won't get too optimistic. Today is cooler which is good. People said it was 36 C in Bristol yesterday. My boat was 35 C inside so i spent the whole day sat in the shade under a tree trying to stay cool. It was an uncomfortable, sleepless night last night.

That's amazing Stephanie about the move. What a place to move to! I am very jealous. Good luck with the plans. When does it happen? Do you have much to sort?
