Sarah | 18549 comments Anyone else joined Emma Watson's feminist book club (Our Shared Shelf) on here? It's utter madness. Most people have joined GR specifically for the club. Many people have no idea what they are doing or what they are on about. And the group has no structure so there are posts everywhere and it's so confusing. And there's loads of fangirling over Emma. Almost tempted to unjoin! I like the idea of the group though.

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments Me. I was interested in what she puts forward to read. I've turned off notifications though.
I really like the stuff she's done with the UN, but I joined and saw she was the only mod, and I was all... "Nawww... you have no idea what you're in for, do you?"

Unfortunately confirmed my expectations. A lot of posts have pointed out she needs more mods, which is good.

But set up properly, then announce. Like I said though, still interested, I'll just pop in when I like, not when things scream at me every minute.

Stephanie Oh yes! We got a king size bed because of him. We had a queen when we first got married but he kept "pushing" my husband off the bed! Yes, we are those people who take their dog into consideration when purchasing furniture, vehicles, places to live, etc :)

message 154: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments I do feel sorry for her though.

"Here is this really important thing I think we should talk about"
"HERMIONE!"
"Yup, I'm her, but let's talk about..."
"HERMIONE! YOU HAVE LIKE WANDS AND SMARTS AND STUFF!"
"And with that I would like to talk about..."
"WE LOVE YOU HERMIONE!"
"You're bloody kidding me."

She wants to do good. The masses are stupid. She needs a hug.

Completely reasonable.

Stephanie @Rusalka :) we get people that are like "you let your dog sleep in the bed with you?" Of course! Why wouldn't we? Lol :)
When he isn't with us, it feels like something is missing :) the day he passes, I'm going to be an inconsolable wreck. Let's just hope that isn't for a long long long time (he is 7 1/2 years old now).

message 157: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments I was never allowed a dog sleeping with me as a kid. Dogs slept outside. I'm of the opinion they can sleep at the bottom of the bed for me personally.

When I was 15 I got the flu, just after my Mum got remarried. They had a painter in who left the front door open and I woke to my dog "experiencing" the two cats. I opened my bedroom door and dog ran in. I went back to sleep and vaguely remember Jemma jumping on the bed.

But I woke to falling out of bed. The bloody Jack Russell X Corgi, had snuggled in to my head, and under the blankets, and then pushed me out of my own bed. I fell out of bed to see her stretched out (all 30cms of her), head on my pillow, snoring.

BOTTOM OF THE BED!

message 158: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Oh my gosh, Rusalka! Sorry that happened to you! Sounds like something out dog would do if he could get away with it :)

message 159: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I don't let my dogs on beds or sofas. I love them like crazy but I draw the line there. I think it opens up the door too much for them to feel entitled to more dominant behavoir. I don't think this of all dogs, my 2 shepherds (past and present) would have probably been completely fine with no behavoir problems but I just don't want the mess on the sofas. My smaller guy, X Coonhound, Aussie Shepherd & Chow, actually used to sleep on my son's bed but he was a handful as far as trying to be alpha and just all over the place. Once I fought him off the bed (yes, we had a battle of wits, him growling and me being stern) he calmed down so much. I had to do this in other areas as well with him but I think the bed was important for him to see as a place he can only be invited to get on. He is so much better now and seems so much more secure as well. He's a sweet dog now, love him.

Yes! Sounds like my house. :) You have been properly instructed.

message 161: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments So, in my world a duvet is:

Over that, you have a duvet cover which protects the duvet (much like a pillow case protects a pillow) It's other purpose is decorative. You take off the cover and wash it like a set of sheets. You don't wash the duvet. It can periodically go to the dry cleaners if it's down filled.

A comforter is a lazy man's duvet/duvet cover. It's one piece - much like a quilt - but with a fluffier stuffing. You throw the entire thing into the wash machine. You may need a big wash machine.

I've been invited to join but I haven't made up my mind yet.

message 163: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments That's right Janice. I didn't realise a comforter was decorative too. I can see why you would need a big washing machine for that.

message 164: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie @ Tasha..I definitely get that :) Blake does have some dominance issues that we are working on. He has his spot on the couch where his blankets are. I probably wouldn't have to vacuum as much or clean as much if I didn't let him up there :)
When Jamey and I first got married, he bought Blake a pet bed and kept it at the foot of our bed...but guess who started inviting Blake up on the bed? Yep, my hubby! :-)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Loki, my dog, sleeps with my son and has an entire love seat to himself in living room. It's ridivulous and we never shoulf have gotten sucked into it. We are the 4th owners of him. The last people let him on the furniture and sleep in their bed. So he was so depressed after the 3,rd family abandoned him we let him do it. He still has serious abandonment issues though

message 166: by Tasha (last edited Jan 08, 2016 12:11PM) (new)

Tasha So weird, Travis, my stepbrother's dog is named Loki too, and the same breed! Quite a coincidence.

My former (now deceased) dog came to me as refugee and when he was 1,5 years old. No one taught him how to hunt. But nothing with wings had escaped him... (he was a Saluki or Persian Greyhound)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments My husband and I share a queen sized bed with not just one, but three dogs! It started out simply enough with our first dog. He's only about 15 pounds so it was no problem. Then we got our little girl (also about 15 pounds) and that was still okay. When we got Diesel, our Wiemaraner, I told my husband he would have to sleep on the floor on a doggie bed. The dog that is, not the husband. Since he was working out of town during those puppy months and took Diesel with him, he let D. sleep in the bed with him. So when they came home on the weekends, guess where he slept then... It was fine when he was little thing that could fit his entire body on the pillow beside your head, but now he is huge.. And likes to cuddle. And steal covers. Maybe I should've made the husband sleep on a doggie bed in the floor afterall! LOL

Stephanie Hubby and I went to World of Beer tonight for my birthday! I really like dark beer so we got a flight. 4 4oz beers. Ninkasi Noir, port City Porter, Devil's Backbone Kilt Flasher and Victory Storm King. My favorite was the Kilt Flasher. Any other beer drinkers in the group?

message 172: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments *raises hand*

What kind of beer was your kilt flasher?

Our Trail Blazers stray from the beaten path into a world of robust and daring beers featuring bigger, bolder flavors for fueling your spirit of adventure.

Stephanie And good ;) mmmmmmm!!!!!!!

message 176: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Ive been known to partake in a beer or 10 now and then. Or everyday. Basically I love beer

message 177: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Sweet, Travis! Do you prefer a certain beer? Guinness is my favorite. I like porters and stouts.

I had blue moon once...but it was a milkshake so it probably doesn't really count as beer ;)

message 178: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments Happy birthday, Stephanie!

I would like Kilt Flasher if someone else was drinking it, and performing. Ya! G'ie us a wee twirl laddie!

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments Is it my imagination, or has there been a change to the font? All of a sudden it looks darker and more readable.

Stephanie Lol, Janice :) Thank you :-)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments Happy birthday, Stephanie!
Beer and red wine are the only alcoholic beverages I drink often. I like dark beer, but I like blond better, specially pilsen.

message 182: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments Now that you mention it, I think it actually changed something with the font, Janice. Not sure what, maybe the font and the size. It is more readable.

message 185: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Usually I buy an 18 pack of budweiser with a 12 pack of yuengleng. Summer I like Corona's. Fall I get Sam Adams Octoberfest and some pumpkin ales. Killians red now and then. Molson Export now and then. Those 2 are hard to find. When I run out of beer I drink the wifes Michelob uktra or bud light margarita thingies. Surorisingly good for fruity things. High alcohol content and not too sweet.

message 186: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments You can probably see why I named my orevious dog Lager. I do seem to go for lagers and red lagers

message 187: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments Apparently, GR's rolled out a font fix of some kind today.

message 188: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Have you had Red's Apple Ale, Travis? Too many of them made me sick one 4th of July :(

message 189: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I like Redds Stephanie. like any of the fruity drinks I limit myself to 1. And Happy Birthday. And don't worry at some point everything I have ever drank has probably gotten me sick. Then again once you drink past a certain point I am pro puking anyway. The next day goes so much smoother that way.

message 190: by Debra (last edited Jan 09, 2016 12:50AM) (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments Yes, GR did roll out darker and larger fonts in several areas. Almeta pointed it out to me.

KimeyDiann, that is so funny about your dogs. Yeah, hubby gets the dog bed, for sure! lol

I love a good black and tan, but only have gotten them at local Renaissance Fairs. I also enjoy a Dos Equis (spelling?) with a lime and Mexican food. Haven't had that in a while either. We don't have liquor in the house because hubby doesn't drink. Almeta and I tend to drink cocktails or put Baileys in our coffees. I also love plum wine. It's yummy!

message 191: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments Happy abirthday Stephanie.

I noticed the font change. It's much better.

Beer is all good. I like the ales, red being my favourite at the moment. There are a lot of local breweries near here so the pubs have guest ales quite often. Lagers more in the summer (Corona, Cobra, Sol).

Stephanie Awe! Thanks all for the birthday wishes! I had a really fun day! I drank all the beer in my flight. The first one for me pretty tipsy but after I had some food in my stomach, I felt better, :-). We went out for ice cream after dinner. I was so full from dinner that I had to put the rest of the ice cream in the freezer! More ice cream for today!! Score!!!!!

message 196: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments That's really cool Stephanie. I hope the dog wasn't allowed to wonder around it's owners house after autographing your book, leaving blue footprints all over the place. :-)

message 197: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie ;-) wouldn't that be interesting...finding blue paw prints everywhere :)

message 198: by Rusalka, Moderator (last edited Jan 09, 2016 04:04AM) (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments My Mum's front porch has river gum green paw prints all over it from the above mentioned Jack Russell vs the Cats incident 17 years ago.

Jack Russell and both cats no longer around, but painted paw prints live forever!

message 199: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Awe, Rusalka!! I bet seeing the paw prints there makes everyone smile :-)

We found a paw print kit at a store when we lived in Omaha. It was a clay mold one so we will always have a mold of his paw! The other side is a picture of him :) I think we have more pictures of our dog than my hubby and I!

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Well my grandpa got back home Thursday. I am jot sure he is living in 2016 with us. He has for years had early signs of dementia but isn't helping his case coming home and acting crazy. He is convinced someone awitched his micriwave while he was gone. Claims his worked and now it doesnt so soneone must have obviously taken his and replaced it with this broken one. Mom bought him a new one. Now he claims hr lost the tv remote a long time ago and turns it on and off by plugging and unplugging it. He has a 2 year old hdtv. I don't know about anyone else but if these new tvs are unplugged they dont turn on when plugged in without turning them on with the button. Think we will have to keep an eye on this quite close but I'm hooing hes mostly just mixed up from being gone for so long
