Have fun, Peggy. Please do stay offline, if you can. I think it is healthy and relaxing to take a break from emails, Facebook, etc, every once in a while. I did that last week when I went to visit my Mom. No wi-fi there, so that made the choice easy. :)

Peggy, when in Rome, roam. The internet will still be there when you get home.

Congrats, Stephanie! Keep up the good work.

Sarah, sorry you're not feeling well, hope you get over it quickly. And yay for your license. It's crazy that anything that is different or outside the norm is looked on with suspicion and mistrust. The summer market though sounds like fun!

Not sure if I was having a dyslexic moment or I just have a dirty mind, but at first glance, I thought that said "Sex Certificates" instead of six certificates! LOL.

Congrats on your six certificates, that is awesome, Stephanie!!!

I know! I'm shocked. And Victoria Wood yesterday too. This year has been awful for well known and loved celebrities dying. We definitely need that ark.

message 1666: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Oh my goodness!! Haha! I promise they are not sex certificates..I think I just cried from laughing :)

The certificates are in:
Microsoft office fundamentals
Call center fundamentals
Web design fundamentals
Mil spouse ( a course that helps you do resumes and cover letters, etc). I mostly took this as a refresher :)
Human resources
Project management

A wide variety of stuff and I can't wait to be done!

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments What a lot's going on! I've been mostly hiding out, pretending I'm in a dream and will wake up soon. At the beginning of the month we had high winds that brought several tree tops onto and through my deck. Dealing with insurance and finding someone to tear down old and build new deck, and fix bent gutters has not bee fun.

The piece the red arrow is pointing at went through the deck.

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments My bigger, and traumatic, event was when I took Callie to the vet because she was throwing up again. Plus this time her bark got very quiet and sounded like she had a hoarse throat, or a sick seal. The vet took x-rays, and there's something going on in the throat area - I kind of blanked out, but we go back Saturday and I'll be paying more attention. It's not a growth, but something's pressing on Callie's esophagus, making it harder for her to swallow. Also, she's not getting all of the calories from her food, explains why she's always hungry. We're not doing any more testing since that would involve anesthesia. I've bought some soft dog food and am making food for her too. Everything's chopped up really fine, and mostly healthy, but she also gets hamburgers, fries, and chicken nuggets. Our goal is to get calories into her, and I'm making sure she gets stuff she likes. She's also taking antibiotics for a related infection. The vet says eating will become more uncomfortable and at some point Callie will start eating less until she doesn't want to eat anymore. I won't let her go on that long, but hell, I've already started crying now and then. I'm so hoping that when we go back to the vet on Saturday we'll find out that the infection is under control and that it's responsible for most of the throat issues. One can only dream.

Oh no, I'm so sorry jmom. Such a difficult struggle. But I understand how you're struggling with trying to maintain Callie's quality of life and also her longevity.

I'm struggling with this daily with our Sheeba girl. I think she's about done with living, and then she rallies. So many ups and downs.

I so feel what you're going thru in every aspect, shape, and form.

I can't stand to think of life without my Sheeba, and yet it's going to be a reality. She's already beaten the odds as a larger dog. Now over 14 years old, and struggling with some things. But still seems overall happy to be here.

Sarah | 18550 comments Sorry to hear about both of your dogs J'mom and TJ. And what a state that tree made of your deck!

There is a FB meme along the lines of "If God would start killing off corrupt politicians instead of rock and roll legends that would be great". I'm all for this. I think Comedians and Authors did to be included to along with the rock and roll legends.

message 1676: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie @jaxnsmom, so so so sorry to hear about Callie ;(
My heart goes out to you and will keep you both in my prayers. I understand what you are going through ;(

Tasha Jmom, I'm sorry to hear about Callie. It's so hard and I really feel for you. I agree as well, definitely quality of life over anything else but it's so hard to make that decision. Hopefully she will improve but it sounds like a progressive thing so I hope too that the timing will be clear and peacful for you ((Hugs))...all the same for you TJ as well.

TJ sorry to hear that Sheeba is having those down days. Must be hard to yo yo between the two, but good that she's still having good days as well.

Pretty bummed and shocked about Prince's death. It's not just that were loosing these amazing rock legends, it's that we're loosing some of the most creative forces and unique voices in rock. Someone, please put Jack White is some sort of bubble!

Roz | 4530 comments I'm sorry to hear about Callie and Sheeba. When we invite animals into our homes, unfortunately, the time they spend with us is too short. Latka is my 3rd guest and she's 11 now, slowing down and sometimes a bit achey. Then she gets excited, runs like mad before remembering she isn't the puppy she used to be. All we can do is love them for the time they stay with us, keep them healthy and safe. No suffering.

message 1688: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments TJ, I knew you were right there with me. The ups and downs are really hard, you feel joyful and at the same time you're preparing yourself for life without them, not knowing which will be stronger each day. Callie's down to about 48 lbs now, from about 65 a few years ago. The back half of her body is so skinny that her skeleton would be showing if her fur wasn't so thick/wiry/curly over most of that area. But she's one very determined lady. She'll let me know when she's ready. I just hope I can be ready then too.

My brother's b'day is June 3, and my dad's and sister's are June 4th. Using a good estimate I have made Callie's b'day be with theirs, along with Jingo. She turns 16 this year, and we'll be at my dad's so can all celebrate together. I think I'll get my brother's kids to help make Callie some treats, along with some crunchy ones for Jingo :)

I know a lot of you feel the same about your pets, we're all in this place at some time or other. It's really nice to know we're all here for each other! I thank all of you for your support!

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments The wind was raining and blowing last night and I always think about the tall trees around me falling. The neighbors had a big oak branch hit the corner of their house two years ago and take out their patio, like yours, Jmom. It was horrible for them too, at first, but after all the insurance and cleaning up and rebuilding, they are so happy with the way everything turned out. I know it is no consolation, especially with what you are going through with Callie too, but maybe just a little something to look foreword to. I'm hoping Callie can hang on a little longer to help you get through it all together.

I have no problem with getting a rebuilt deck. The original one had problems, so I'm looking forward to a new one. It's just the paperwork, phone calls, rescheduling, trying to salvage a few things that were on the deck, knowing the destruction/construction guys will be starting early so I won't be getting enough sleep (8 am - really?? I don't go to bed til 2 or 3 am on a good night) - all are just inconveniences that won't last long.

message 1694: by [deleted user] (last edited Apr 22, 2016 07:24PM) (new)

J'mom- I hope the deck rebuilding goes as smoothly as possible, given the circumstances. For the present, it must be stressful to deal with though. Sorry, you are having to go through this along with Callie being ill.

message 1695: by jaxnsmom (new)

Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments Thanks everyone so much for the good thoughts and wishes. It's comforting. I am thankful for all the many good years and times we've had and still have. It's hard to watch Sheeba slow down and at times lose her footing and sometimes show mental confusion, but she's also a very determined girl, like Callie.

I hope she will show me when she's ready to go, and that I'll know and will be ready, too, like you said Jmom. I'm so sorry this is a year with life throwing lots of stuff at you. I know that we all get our difficulties and challenges to deal with, but it's crummy when they pile up. Hope that things lighten up in this respect for you.
