Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Trump has some good ideas and some bad ideas like every candidate. Except everything has to go to the extreme with him. If he as a person knew how to tone it down and ve diplomatic he could make as good a president as anyone. But he has god syndrome and thinks he is running for a dictatorship. Does not play well with others. But you can't change his oersonality and so many people are gung ho on his iron fist ideas. I just don't understand it

message 1054: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Unfortunately, there aren't any good candidates this year for president :( I'm very nervous!
It comes down to the lesser of two evils (if it ends up being Trump vs Clinton). But at the same time, they are both awful, in my opinion :)

message 1055: by Tasha (new)

Tasha One year I didn't vote for president and it looks like this might be another year I don't vote. I hate not voting but if it comes down to any 3 of the top runners right now I. Just. Can't. Even. ridiculous

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments In the presidential election here is the frustration. I vote for who I think is best, but you know NY will choose the Democratic runner. NY is a guarantee win for a Democratic president candidate. Its why we want NYC and Upstate made ibto two seperate states. They have completely different needs and upstate is largely republican but I think if upstate was its own you would not have a guaranteed winner. But I can tell you for a fact the democrat wina NY. One of a handful of states that is a guarantee for a specific party. Also why the party system needs to leave.

message 1058: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Actually what Trump is proving is that Americans are fed up with career politicians, the two party system and the mockery the government has become. Supporters are showing Americans eant their voices heard and they feel Trump feela the same and is listening. He isn't. He doean't know how to listen. Still I think if this camoaign is looked at in the future that will be the take home part. Our democracy isn't quite a democracy and the people want politicians to stop deciding things they don't understand about the working class

message 1059: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I agree, travis, I think that's why he has such support...people really are fed up with career politicians and everything they stand (or don't stand) for. Too bad he is an idiot and way too volatile.

Joan Has any seen "The Art of The Deal" in which Johnny Depp plays Trump? It's on a channel called Funny or Die which doesn't seem to on my cable.

message 1063: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I keep hearing things about Trump but I just assumed he was being his usual idiot self. It was only after reading your comments yesterday that I realised that there was an impending presidential election. I really can't believe that he is in the running. America and the world generally will be a bad place if he gets in. I saw something on Facebook earlier which said that searches on google for "How can I move to Canada?" increased by 350% Mass exodus if he gets in?!

message 1064: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I've not heard of Tye Sheridan before either but I do recognise his face although I'm not sure where from as I've not seen any of the films he's been in before. I'm looking forward to the film but also hoping I won't be disappointed.

How can Johnnny Depp play Trump?! I'm guessing it's not a serious role!

message 1065: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I read that too Sarah. The news item I read about it also said that the Canadian Immigration website saw a peak in visitors, and that the highest peak ever was when George Bush was re-elected in 2004. It also said that after Obama became president there was a small increase in either google searches or immigration website visits, so I guess there will never be a president who makes everybody happy.

message 1067: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments At least you'll be all set for the weekend Lisa when there is a possibility of snow. I bet we won't get any though. Wrap up warm and get the hot water bottles out to make it through today. My mum's boiler broke last week and she had to wait for parts to be delivered so she stayed at my dad's for the week until it was as fixed.

message 1068: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Trump basically has the Republican nomination at this time. While there are still a couple months of primaries left, generally if tou win on super Tuesday you get the nomination. He won for Rep. And Hillary won for Dem. These will most likely be the 2 candidates.

He is making a statement Friday. He is no longer debating, but I think he is going to keep his name in rather than withdraw and support another candidate. After all every vote for him is one less for Trump. What I make from his facebook message anyway

This sums up a lot of what I have observed about American politics over the past 10 years. I also do not think in away that Trump is the answer (he really, REALLY isn't), but it shows that the establishment should be worried.

Here in Aus we've been getting sick for a while of the two party system. Last election the Senate ended up with a big crossbench of 10 I think? Maybe 12, of small parties or independents, as people wanted to express this and protest. Some of these guys are great, some are basketcases, some small parties imploded. The party I support is the Greens in Aus, and they have seen their proportion of the vote increase each election as people want another option. They are hovering around 12-15% at the moment, which shows they aren't to be dismissed. However, the major parties still do. Which just means the next week the vote increases again.

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments There are a bunch of books going to movies. RPO, American Gods, Dark Tower, and the new graphic veraon of It. Sounds like they are trying to Rob Zombie it up a bit as he likes to take and remake classic horror flicks and graphic them up to disturbing levels. I don't think the new It is supposed to be like a full fledged Rob Zombie type thing but it is being made specifically to up the graphic violence.

And fair enough. In Aus, you don't vote for a President. You vote for your local member who best represents you and what you think (in an ideal world, okay. Sometimes it's the one you agree with more, and the one you disagree with less). They are supposed to represent that in their party. The party with the most votes, their leader (chosen by the party) is the PM. It's supposed to be more representational. It sometimes works, it sometimes doesn't. But I like the idea more than the big Presidential two year roadshow.

message 1078: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments What Trump does is feeds on insecurities and orejudices of Americans. He really doesn't say his views or plans. I'm reminded of Julia Louis Dreyfuss in the New Adventures of Old Christine. One episode her son is going to a prep school for rich white kids. Early in the series she had to fight and pretend to be rich to get him ibto it as they aren't rich. Anyway one episode this black family wants to get in. The rich white people don't want black people getting in. Christine fights because she does not want a racist son and in the end they let the blavk people in. Christine goes up to welcome them and they say something along the lines of well we are just glad to get our kid into a school with no Jews in it. Amd so it goes. The Jews provably don't want a Muslim. The Muslim doesn't want a Mexican. Whatever I'm making the exact chain up here ,but that episode really sums up trump. There is always prejudice toward soneone so isolate a group and feed the weakness.

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I'm just back from seeing my neurophysiotherapist. She took a look at my painful hand and has said that I have slightly torn one of the little tubes that encase the nerves and some of the nerves have been pinched, hence the numbness. It will heal up on its own so I won't need treatment but it could take another 3 weeks to a month.

I'm now sitting with a mug of soup trying to warm up! Also, who knew two guys fitting a boiler could make so much mess!

That's what we do here as well. However, many people will vote for the local representative based on who they want for Prime Minister.

As far as the elections go Travis, I'm voting for Rubio next week in our primary. He's been good in FL where I used to live, and seems to have some common sense. He's also more moderate in his policies than Trump or Cruz.

This sums up my feelings exactly! And like you said, Democrats will win in NY. And California. The southern states will vote Republican mostly. And this isn't truly representative of the entire states' views. The Electoral Collge is a joke. I'll never understand why we can't just use the popular vote. The EC made more sense maybe back in the 1800's, but with the technology we have today, I don't get the need for it.

I feel confident that Hillary will be our next president if Trump gets the Demo. nomination, which it looks like he is going to. Hillary will win based on two things that are not political at all: People voting against Trump, and because she is a woman. Too many people voted for Obama simply because he was a black man and I've seen/heard too many people wanting to vote for Hillary because we would have our first female pres.

It reminds me of an episode of Will and Grace. During a local election Will and Grace each throw strong support to two different candidates. One was a woman and the other a homosexual man. They didn't know anything about either candidate's beliefs, just those facts. It turns out both were crazy so W&G both decide to not vote for either of them. The show ends with them leaving to go to the polls when they found out there was a black person in the running.

That's funny. I always find it fascinating how much an accent can change over just a short amount of miles. I'm not sure what my accent is now. I was born in the Home Counties in the South of England. I then lived in the north in Nottingham for 4 years then down to the West Country in Bristol. Most of the jobs I've had in these stronger accented places I have still been around people without the local accent so I don't think it rubbed off on me all that much. The odd word did though. I do notice the odd Bristolian twang and the "Where's that to?" come out occasionally though. And it's funny because I always notice as I've done it and make a comment that it sounded a bit West Country!

Sarah | 18550 comments While still on the subject of accents, there is a British comedian here called Micky Flannagan who has a really strong Cockney accent. Sarah | 18550 comments I have a really busy week coming up. This Sunday it is Mother's Day here in the UK so tomorrow we're off to my partner's mum's house, then on Sunday I'm off to see my nan and mum. Then I'm hoping to go climbing on Monday, I have work 3 days during the week plus two evening cookery courses (How to make sourdough bread and pizza & Vegetarian Chinese Takeaway items). Then my partner just asked if I want to go see a mate's band play tonight. Phew! I've said no. He's going to go but I'm going to stay in on my own and do nothing but READ! Really looking forward to it. Shame I can't have a drink while I'm reading though as I have to go pick him up after. Normally I'm never that busy - this is unheard of me.

Same thing here. I have noticed activities out of the house tired me more now. I do thousand of things here at home during the day (which starts 5:50 am and ends around 11 pm, with occasional interruptions during the night too), but I'm used to this kind of work. But for some reason I'm getting more tired now when I have too much activity outside of the house. That's specially in this time of the year. During the summer we do lots of things so I get used to it quickly.

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I'm a bit stressed out right now. Our brand new combi boiler has gone wrong already! It was working last night and first thing this morning but then it suddenly stopped and we have noticed a large wet patch on the corner of our living room ceiling. The boiler is in the airing cupboard which is in the bedroom above the living room so we are guessing that one of the pipes is leaking. So we are currently without heating and hot water and are waiting for an engineer to come out and have a look at it. Hopefully it won't be too difficult to fix!
