Stephanie Thanks, Tasha, Sandra and Rusalka :) I had to leave a message and haven't heard anything back :( it has only been a day though :)

The Day of the Triffids is a great old-school sci-fi story. I also like The Black Cloud

Yes, I'm wondering too! Hope it's been getting better.

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments Thanks for asking, Sandra and Tasha :) No, it's not getting any better at all :( I phoned my surgery again a couple of days ago and told them how painful it is but they still could not offer me any appointments until the end of next week! I told them I was worried about it and in the end, my doctor rang me at home and she said it sounds like it could be a strain, a trapped/pinched nerve or possibly even a torn tendon or ligament. I have to keep taking painkillers and she also told me to try and use my hand as little as possible and if it doesn't start to improve over the next few days, I have to go and see her. I have made an appointment for this coming Thursday, just in case.

message 955: by Tasha (new)

Tasha Wow, that sounds painful and frustrating. Sorry to hear you are still going through all that stuff. :(

Lisa,
I hope you get relief soon - a pinched nerve in my neck triggered my hand to cramp up into a claw and become numb so be sure your doctor considers your neck- physical therapy relieved my pain like magic

Thanks for the advice, Joan. Funnily enough, my neck is a bit stiff and sore so I will make sure I mention it to my doctor.

My Dad and I got taken out to a mixed Birthday Brunch at my best friend's fiance's little restaurant. My little brother sprang the bill for all of us - me, Dad, my sister, Jenny and Jordan (nephew) Grat way to start the day!

Sarah | 18550 comments At the risk of sounding a bit crazy, has anyone ever had a dream involving goodreads, YLTO or any YLTO members before?!? Well last night I did. I was at a boat race of some kind in the UK and bumped in to Travis. Who was actually racing one of the boats. No idea what kind of boat it was. Nor do I know if he won. At first he didn't realise who I was, I think he thought I was a weirdo. Then the dream switched and I was in America with my partner and there was a party. Again Travis was there but he went to bed early (and I think he was the host) and there were other people I knew who live on boats there. Then there was an Australian invasion with Rusalka showing up along with the guy who took my course at the weekend (he was from Tasmania). It was quite a strange party but I'm not sure why now. You know when you get a sense of something or a theme for something but don't remember the details after you've woke up. That's what I have now about the party. And then I woke up. Bizarre! I haven't had a dream for a little while that I remember (or that has been a little weird). So there we are...

message 963: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Funny dream Sarah.

I wonder how true to reality your images of the GR members are. I can't really imagine Travis going to bed early at his own party ;-)

message 964: by Lisa (new)

I call those "Sorting Dreams".

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments I have but I cannot remember details. But know you are not alone.

In related news I had a dream last night that I had so much data manipulation to do, I sent Logan Ninefingers (The Blade Itself buddy read) to do the data collation for me. Not the most ethical plan, but effective! Just don't tell the University Ethics Committee.

message 969: by Stephanie (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I've had dreams about goodreads. I always have messed up dreams though. I fell asleep early when a few of us were partying amd woke up covered in ketchup and mustard plus after face painting me with it they filled my hand so when I woke up and felt sonething on my face I woukd smear even more on myself. Never be the first to bed.

Your dream sounded rather fun. Parties, Australian invasion, boat races!

I had a dream a couple of nights ago about the upcoming changes to Goodread's web design. I logged in and it was a floating purple page, so dark that you couldn't read the writing.

At least you didn't send Glokta! When I was reading about Sarah's dream, I was thinking about the buddy read for The Blade Itself and wondering if that was influencing her dream.

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I had a creepy dream last week about a house. Went inside and it never ended. Went outside tokd a guy how creepy it was but the kids were fascinated and he points and I look and the kids were inside and most of the house was glass and it was endless stairways. Should of been 3 stories but there were 20 stories of stairs and they kept unfolding and going higher yet the house stayed the same size. Hard to explain. But I think it was influenced fron the Blade Itself when they go in the makers house or whatever it was called.

message 976: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Oh I have dreams about books and their characters reasonably frequently and also dreams in which I'm narrating the whole dream (mainly when I am currently reading first person POV books). Love your dream Rusalka about sending Logen on the task! And yours Travis although a house that keeps expanding might be a little disconcerting! I guess the Blade Itself got in to our minds this last couple of weeks.

message 977: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments So many good dreams! I haven't dreamed something interesting in a long time. Only this kind of dreams that feel like "working". The kind that left you tired, like if you were have been doing stuff instead of sleeping. Not fun.

message 978: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments Dreams are such a fascinating topic! I love hearing about people's dreams. I know I've had quite a few dreams lately, but I can't remember them now. I think I may have once had a dream that somehow included Sarah... I have a vague memory of boats in the dream, but I don't remember any details. I know I woke up thinking about YLTO.

And I dream about things relating to books I read a lot. I'm pretty sure one of the dreams I was having last night was related to The Back Building, which I started reading yesterday.

A neuroscience researcher extracted all of the words from books leaving only the punctuation to compare styles:

We could make it in to a "how many people can you fit in a 58 ft narrowboat" world record attempt!

message 985: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I think I might have broken a toe. I don't recall doing anything other than I went climbing yesterday. I don't remember feeling it go or anything like that. But in the night I woke up to pain in my toe and when I went to the toilet I could hardly put any weight on it at all. This morning I can see it's swollen and a little bruised. I can put weight on it but it hurts. I really could do without this. Not much that can be done about it either.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments That sounds strange Sarah, to have such pain when you can't remember doing anything that could have caused it. Will you go to a doctor to have it checked?

I just rang the doctors and they told me to go to the minor injuries unit to get it x-rayed. I don't know whether it's worth it or not. Either way they'll just strap it up and tell me to rest it a while. I can't decide.

That's very strange, Sarah. It might be worth going to the minor injuries unit. I know they won't be able to do much other than strap it up if it is broken but at least you will know what is wrong. I hope the pain eases up soon!

message 990: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I'm sat in the waiting area of the minor injuries unit now. Hopefully it won't take too long so I can go to work on time later and not have to cancel any clients.

Sarah | 18550 comments All done. Looks like inflammation of the tendon. Probably from rock climbing yesterday. All strapped up and need to rest and ice it. Not sure how much resting will get done considering the amount of walking I have to do getting to and from the boat alone.

Wow, you got seen pretty quickly! I'm glad to hear it's not broken! :) Just try and rest it as much as you can and hopefully it will heal up soon.

message 993: by Rusalka, Moderator (last edited Feb 23, 2016 03:12AM) (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments I'd be taking a couple of days off. Tendons aren't something you screw with.

I know it's lost money for a few days, but better than having a weak tendon that gets hurt easily while living on a boat. I saw a video about a tendon snapping before, and oh my god. You want that thing to heal.

Very interesting Sandra - thanks. I think the use of punctuation makes the reading/listening so much richer - a comma, a semi-colon, a dash, a period (full stop as some say), etc. all contribute to the author's writing style and ability to convey meaning and feeling. I dislike authors who don't use punctuation enough, which results in me having to re-read a sentence. If I have to do that, it's not a good reading/listening experience.

message 996: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments I agree, Lilisa. Punctuation is nearly as important as words for me.

Janice (jamasc) | 59890 comments There was a bizarre shooting in Michigan yesterday with 6 people murdered by an Uber driver who picked up and dropped off passengers between killing his victims. I can't help but think of my granddaughter who is 14, the same age as one of the girls killed. I can't imagine what the families are going through.

This will likely get the gun control debate in the States raging again.

Good plan. Sometimes tendon injuries can be as bad or worse than an actual break.

message 1000: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I read about that too Janice. Horrible :( Also seems so random to still drive passengers in between.
