The info ..."
That is terrifying, TJ. If you don't have pepper spray or something, you should definitely get some! My husband was actually telling me just last week that I need to get pepper spray or a taser to keep in my car. It came up after some friends (a mother and her 12 y/o daughter) had a scary encounter recently with a man trying to get into their car while they were at a stop sign.
Even though it is legal for women to conceal-carry a gun in my state, I'm not comfortable enough around guns to carry one and I really don't think I could use one if the situation did present itself. A taser or pepper spray, absolutely.

I never know what's going on locally as i don't read the local news papers and because we move around. I think it's better that way.

My MIL kept everything! I've been afraid to throw anything out without searching it thoroughly because who knows what she might have hidd..."
Let me know if you beat 56 hacksaw blades or 20 tubes of superglue. Dad was an amazing horder.

Exactly my thoughts. That's not normal.

We do but our local one is next to useless tbh. My mum went down there a few months ago after a fall with chest and back pain and was waiting to be seen for hours and then they just sent her away with a few painkillers. Didn't take any X-rays or anything, just said she was bruised. She was only with the doctor for about 5 minutes. Turned out she had two broken ribs and had slipped a disc in her back!

@J'smom That sounds like a nice idea for your father to do! I wish I could go through my grandma's things, but I guess my mom and aunt's got rid of 'em long ago when she was sick! And after the funeral they only inherited what was valuable. But still, going through old stuff would be a great idea.
@Lisa Ooh Lisa that sounds awful !
I won't recommend using a bandage, since you dunno what the cause of the pain, then it might only make it worse.
Try to use ice packs and massage it softly with heated -not boiled- olive oil.
Hope you feel better soon.

Have lots of things to do here and there, I just wish I get some free time to read the book for the number challenge.

I do find it surprising that you would have to wait a week to see a doctor!

Who needs a doctor when you have us!? ;)

Lol! Thanks for the tip, Travis! If I get really desperate, I might give it a go ;)

Who needs a doctor when you have us!? ;)"
Exactly! We have got all the medical advice we need right here! :D

I do find it surprising that you would have to wait a week to see a doctor!"
I know, it's ridiculous! It's getting harder and harder to see a doctor these days. Our surgery does release a few extra appointments each day but you have to be on the phone at 8:30 in the morning and most of the time you can't get through and when you eventually do, they are all gone!

@Rus, no saw blades, she mostly kept paper. We have filled more garbage bags with useless paperwork than I can even remember. Clothes that date back to the 1960's. Empty medicine bottles, I know there were probably 100 of those. Most everything she hoarded was junk that was useless.
@Lisa, hope your hand gets to feeling better soon!

Here, my doctor's office will only book appointments for the upcoming two weeks. Often I'll phone and they'll say, "The next available appointment is March 3 (using today's date for the example) but we can only book up to 2 weeks in advance. Call back tomorrow morning to book the March 3 appointment. And the next day it's the same response.
Within the last year, they started keeping 3 appointments open - like your surgery, Lisa. They call them "same day appointment". You have to call at precisely 8:30 and within 2 or 3 minutes they are gone.
But, we can go to the emergency department at the hospital, and there are several walk-in clinics. Some people without their own family doctors use the walk-in clinics exclusively.

This is a topic I should really be more knowledgeable about, but I've never taken the time to research. Gun control is a hot topic in the US right now. Those of you that live in countries where all weapons are restricted, is the crime rate really lower? Do you feel safer? I've always leaned toward the notion that criminals are going to find ways to get weapons regardless of what the laws say.
And on the subject of pepper spray. Janice, are there bears in the wilderness in Canada? I assume there are, but we all know what assuming does. LOL. I know people that go hiking or camping in the parts of the USA that have bears, they are encouraged to carry pepper spray incase of a dangerous encounter with one. I may be making this up but it seems like I remember reading once that pepper spray was originally created for hikers in bear country.

Regarding guns I really think opinion is largely formed based on what you're used to. I really can't imagine feeling safe when people around me carry guns, and the idea that there are places where anyone can just get a gun is beyond me.
I read today about eagles of death metal and their concert yesterday in bataclan in paris. The frontman said in an interview so many deaths could have been prevented if people were allowed to carry guns. Because 'people carrying guns don't get killed'. While actually I would say it would have been even worse, imagine someone shooting and dozens of people, in a dark room among hundreds of others, shooting back?

I generally don't feel unsafe here though. I don't like cycling home alone in the middle of the night, but I don't think a gun or pepperspray would change that.

I definitely agree it makes a difference on what you are used to. My dad was not a hunter thankfully, but he had guns in the house when I was growing up. I know he had one or two pistols. They were kept safely away from my sister and me and on the rare occasion he brought one out for target shooting, he stressed safety. He had several BB or pellet guns, but my sister and I were not allowed to touch even them without him beside us.
While I don't have a problem with people having guns, I do think there should be stricter guidelines before a person can get one. Safety classes, background checks, and a psychological evaluation. Too many mentally unstable people can get a gun with absolutely no checking. That is what scares me. Responsible, sane, law abiding people with guns, I see no problem.
I guarantee in my office of 30 or so people, I could go to the cars in the parking lot, purses at desks, and probably even inside a couple of the desks and find a minimum of 8-10 guns. I feel perfectly safe with this knowledge. But I would feel just as safe if I knew there were zero guns here.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to look them up, I had no idea this band even existed!

Neither did I I just saw an ad to go see them at Turning Stone. I looked them up and I guess they just debuted at the grammys which I don't watch aince they are prejudice toward rock and metal.
I did take a listen to them they are quite good. Which I mean look at the members why wouldn't they be good. But with all the Johnny Depp fans in this group I thought it was really cook
