Anne (Booklady) Molinarolo (wwwgoodreadscomAnneMolinarolo) | 1282 comments Sandra, I've been thinking about you. I hope you're over the bug you had.

message 752: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59884 comments Glad to hear the wind has died down and that everything is okay, Sarah.

message 753: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Sounds scary Sarah!

It was very windy here too, I woke up in the night from all the noise outside. But in a boat it must be very different from a house! During the day it was also windy, but like it happens a few times every year, so not worse than ever. A good thing some of the Carnival parades were cancelled though.

message 754: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments Yes I was surprised to still see joggers and cyclists going along the towpath in that wind. We didn't have any thunder or lightning here. It is so calm here now. I think we'll be getting your sunshine tomorrow Cherie. It's supposed to be sunny but chilly.

message 755: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments Glad you are all okay, Sarah, Sarah, and Lisa . 100kmph winds are intense even when you're not in a boat. When you guys talk about the eeriness, I just think of the eye of the storm. So hoping you don't have a recurrence anytime in the next 24 hours.

message 756: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I'm glad to hear you are all safe and all is calm now.

message 757: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments It's a completely different day here today. There is hardly a breath of wind and it's cold and quite sunny. The tree that came down up the road missed the closest house, thank goodness! Glad it's all over now!

message 758: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Less windy here too, almost no wind really, but it has been raining non-stop for at least 4 hours already.

message 759: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments Thank you very much, Anne. I'm all good now. A little tired, but that's it. We had the three younger ones feeling unwell the last two days too, but it wasn't as aggressive as it was with me, ad they are all fine today.

We are having some snow showers here, and expecting some proper snow this afternoon.

message 760: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59884 comments I signed a new one year lease on my apartment yesterday. Looks like I won't be moving afterall.

I got a phone call on Saturday offering me a $150/month reduction in my rent plus free internet and cable tv (another $166/month savings). How could I turn it down, especially since my ex is still playing stall tactics in finalizing the matrimonial property agreement. It looks like I'm going to have to take him to court. That all takes time, so I'm stuck here any way. May as well save the money to pay the lawyer. Oh, damn. Now that I said that, the joy out of saving $316/month just fizzled.

message 761: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments If you are not able to move soon, Janice, then you did the right thing. Save money for now!

message 762: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I agree with Sandra, sounds like a good solution for the time being. It must be annoying that finalizing things is taking forever!

We finally got our couch, kitchen table and chairs delivered today. No more sitting in garden chairs! It's beautiful, I'm even more in love with the house now than I already was :D

message 763: by Tasha (new)

Tasha Aw, Peggy, that sounds great!

Janice, sounds like a good move. :)

message 764: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sarahlou29) | 1302 comments It's so weird today. It was lovely and sunny earlier, clear blue skies and now cloudy and blah.

Aww I'm sorry you're not moving Janice. At least it's saving money.

Woohoo Peggy =] I haven't been following the convo, sorry, is this your first bought house?

message 765: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Yes, we had a rented apartment before this. We moved in over 3 weeks ago and were supposed to have our (new) furniture by then, but it took longer than expected.

message 766: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sarahlou29) | 1302 comments Ooh congratulations on your first house =]

I'm glad you've got your new furniure now though phew.

message 767: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments Sounds comfy, Peggy! :)

message 768: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments Very unusual to be offered a rent reduction. Normally landlords are hiking the prices up. I can see why you've taken advantage of the offer Janice especially with what else is going on.

message 769: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59884 comments The economy here is pretty bad right now. With oil prices dropping, people are losing their jobs and moving out of the area. The vacancy rate is low, so the rent prices are dropping.

The other problem is that the Canadian dollar is at an all time low. Dad bought $100 USD yesterday and it cost him $145 CDN.

message 770: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Nice Janice in regards to saving a bit of money after signing a new lease. We had to sign a new lease as well but our rent went up $20 a month :( guess we won't be moving for another year!
My favorite NHL goalie had his number retired today. My hubby emailed me the link so I could stream the event live! So awesome :)

message 771: by Joan (new)

Joan when we moved from an apt to a house we didn't have enough lamps to go around so we each had a lamp to carry to whichever room we were in.

message 772: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sarahlou29) | 1302 comments I think it's quite common isn't it, when you first move to a new apartment or new house you don't have all your furniture yet and we have to make do with what we have. When we had our first apartment, me and Steve slept on an air bed for weeks and sat on garden chairs for months lol.

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Is anyone else having an issue with a pop up at bottom of page for web gl coming up. I can't get rid of it. Been 5 days probably

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments Not me, Travis.

No problems for me either.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments No pop-up, Travis, but I keep having my page freeze. I think Janice mentioned it.

message 778: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sarahlou29) | 1302 comments Urgh I'm quite annoyed at the moment. My bf applied for a transfer with his firm to move to my home town as there was a good job opportuity there. And his firm offered him 2 days trial up there and an extra day to see if he'd do well in the job role. We waited 2 weeks for an answer for them to come back today and say no. They know our situation with wanting to move because I'm depressed and need more support and moving back to my hometown where my family lives, they said they understood and were sympathetic. But now it looks really odd. They didn't give anyone else an opportunity to try the job role and he hasn' got it, and other members of his team are confused at why he hasn't got it.

I hate where we live and don't want to stay here, but now we're further delayed, so looking for houses has to be put on hold.

I'm upset, because he has't been treated well by his firm, he's always been on a lower pay than his team members, and even going to HR they only bump is pay up a little every year. His team members are on £3-4,000 more than him, and I can't help but think it has something to do with his disability.. so much for them being a equality company.

Sorry for my rant, I'm just so irritated.

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments Sarah, I'm sorry to hear you are having a hard time with your depression. I can see how frustrating it is not even have the chance to try the new place of work for a few days when you already had the expectations high about moving back.

message 780: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59884 comments It seems unusual that they haven't given him a reason why he's not being given the transfer.

Sorry too, about your depression, Sarah.

message 781: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie So sorry to hear, Sarah :( I hope everything gets better soon :)

message 782: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments So sorry to hear about all that Sarah :(

message 783: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments Very sorry to hear that, Sarah :(

message 784: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I'm sorry too Sarah. Depression is not easy. It sounds like you don't have much support there but I hope there is a way for you to find something that can help.

message 785: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments I hope you guys find a work around soon. I can imagine how frustrating it must be for you both Sarah.

No, never been on one but have always wanted to have a try. Enjoy the experience, Sarah!

message 788: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie My hubby and I have been on Segways! We did a tour of the monuments around Washington DC when my in-laws visited. They are so much fun! Enjoy!

message 789: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments Yeah, I've never been on Segways but I remember seeing lots of them in DC.
Sounds like a cool gift for your dad, Sarah.

Yup. My old work had a few of them and we rode them for work. Also went on a tour around the middle of town on them. Very fun. Very hard to fall off (although I have witnessed it twice, but twice in 65 yrs isn't bad). They are very fun, but are speed limited usually... I can see them being much more fun if they turned the limit off...

Sorry to hear all of that, Sarah. If you guys really think there is discrimination going on, is there a Union you guys could talk to for advice? Or at least sound out to see if your thoughts have claims? That's totally what I would do.

I think they have only been around for 10-15 years, so that increases the odds of falling off ;-) No, just kiddin, they're supposed to be very safe in that respect! I'm sure I would manage to fall off though.

I'm sure me too, Peggy. I'm pretty clumsy!

Good point. But as I saw multiple people riding them each day for 5 years and only one stack... I view those as good odds. the other stack was our segway tour, when my good friend rode hers into a bar at shin height at about 10kph. Fair enough.

I believe the gyroscopes in them are able to autocorrect to a certain extent, which allows them to stay upright most of the time. And you kinda feel this when you ride them.

Bar a bar at shin height, or my workmate leaning all the way back testing this function and smacking his head on the marble floor. Totally not to the segways fault.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Sounds like a YLTO-Segway-outing would be lots of fun!

message 799: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments Good to hear positive feedback on the segways. I was a little concerned about falling off. We have it booked for April. I'll let you know how we get on. It was my dad's 65th birthday.

Lol, I agree Peggy! You, me, Tasha, Sandra and Rusalka would probably be picking ourselves up off the floor most of the time! Or crashing into things! :)
