Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments Here any more when we go out i feel like they should make people turn in their guns! ; )

We have legal open carry now in my crazy state. Haven't seen any as yet, thank goodness. But we kind of assume that any and everyone could be packing heat.

Also, we have some nutters that throw rocks at car windshields on the interstate hiway. Very scary.

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments This is awesome, had to share. Kids covering "Sober" by Tool!

message 704: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Cool! Although I do prefer the Tool-version, I guess I'm more into Maynard James Keenan's voice and way of performing the song than that of a young girl.

Interesting choice of song by the way, or is Tool very well-known in the US?

message 705: by Tasha (new)

Tasha That windshield thing is scary and cray, TJ. ugh...people, what's wrong with them!?

message 706: by Lynda (new)

Lynda | 836 comments I'm heartbroken to hear so many people dislike The Great Gatsby, as it's probably one of my favorite books of all time! It feels so very human to me and of course underlines everything we believe about the 20's, and the excesses of the Jazz age: the glamour and the disillusionment. Similar to Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas's relationship to drug culture and the end of the 60's, and oh, I don't know Valley of the Dolls's connection to the 80's. It's the perfect circle of the American Dream, both it's highs and lows, and the human cost at the heart of that equation. Also, I think the characters in Gatsby are very recognizable, especially today, with the boom and bust of the hedge fund generation coming to grips with a new economy.

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments Just remembered, Berit, where are you?

Mariab | 3059 comments Tejas Janet wrote: "Also, we have some nutters that throw rocks at car windshields on the interstate hiway. Very scary. "
They may not be simply nuts. That was a beloved trick for car thieves in SA

message 710: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments Exactly what I was remembering, Mariab.

Great news!!

message 712: by Tejas Janet (new)

Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments This rock thower person or persons throw large baseball size rocks at car windshields from the overpasses crossing the interstate hiway below. No car thefts involved here but lots of injured drivers and passengers and cars. About 55 incidents since June 2014 when this started here. My husband drives that stretch regularly and i 'm trying to convince him to take a different way.

That sounds really scary, TJ! It beggars belief that there are people out there who think it is okay to do things like that to other people. They must be completely mad!

message 714: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Throwing stones from overpasses happens occasionally here too. Mostly young men or boys who think it's fun somehow.. they do often get caught, but people have been injured.

message 715: by Lynda (new)

Lynda | 836 comments I'm glad to hear you're feeling better, Sandra!

How's your shoulder, CFDeeDee?

message 716: by CFDeeDee (new)

CFDeeDee @Tejas wooow .. Rocks? Seriously? That can cause serious damage, sometimes death !

@Lynda It is weird when you find someone disliking a book you really loved and would recommend .. Still same old pain :( I really feel like stretching out my arm until I break my shoulder ! Something in my head is telling me it'll make the pain stop XP

@Sandra glad to hear that you're getting better :D

Mariab | 3059 comments CFDeeDee wrote: "Still same old pain :( I really feel like stretching out my arm until I break my shoulder ! Something in my head is telling me it'll make the pain stop XP
..."

From a Back- Shoulder- etc expert:
If it is the muscle, go with warm: infrared light, hot water, also rubbing mint or eucalyptus oil in the shoulder
If it is the bone or articulation beneath, go with cold: ice packs, or ice gels.
Be very cautious with any anesthesia, then, contrary to intuition, pain is your friend: it avoids you using the muscle, bone or articulation which has a problem.
AND consult a doctor. So a pain could be the symptom from another problem, like a herniated disc in the cervical spine, and those things go only worse when unattended

message 718: by CFDeeDee (new)

CFDeeDee Hmmm I guess its bone, cuz I always wanna hear my shoulder click when I stretch my arm.
I'll give ice pad a try today, I hope it helps.
Thanks Mariab ;)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Hmmm. I turned on th puppy bowl forthe kids and find only my wife and I watching it. Not sure how his happened. I not really into watching these things. But am super ready for some football. My wife made chili dip and I made taco salad. Ice cold beer. Juat need to milk some cows and watch some football go Panthers

message 723: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments We're getting prepared for another storm tonight. The rivers have burst their banks nearby and the weir has been completely engulfed. The river has risen over 6 foot in 24 hours and is going very fast. Luckily we're on the canal and unaffected thank god. It looks pretty scary. And we're due more rain tonight and tomorrow. Plus winds of up to 75mph. We'll be affected by those though. I'm not going anywhere tomorrow that's for sure. Although i might be on the phone to my partner at various points if it gets a little hair raising :-) Perfect day to continue gophering for the toppler.

message 724: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Stay safe Sarah! Same forecast here tomorrow. It's Carnaval and around 100 parades were planned in the province tomorrow, but several have been cancelled and I guess many others will be cancelled too. It's thought to be too dangerous with these big wagons and crowds and heavy winds. A shame though, people in the parade have often worked months to make the wagons and costumes.

message 725: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments That is a shame. I saw the path the storm will be taking and thought it was coming your way. Hopefully it will have died down a bit by the time it gets to you so some festivities can still go ahead.

message 726: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie @Travis..I may have recorded the puppy bowl ;-) our dog stares at the TV during it..the whole time, lol :)

message 730: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments lol, Travis, I was the same!

message 731: by CFDeeDee (new)

CFDeeDee Stay safe girls, It sounds really bad.

LoL Travis, thats funny.

message 732: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments I'm scared right now. The wind here is ridiculous. It's so loud. And a tree has fallen down on to a boat on the other side of the aqueduct from us. The fire brigade are there now but the towpath and the canal are completely blocked. With every little sound (which there are a lot of right now) I'm up on my feet looking out at the trees. There are so many surrounding us on both sides of the canal.

message 733: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments That must be so scary, Sarah! Stay safe!

The wind is awful here too. There is some building work going on just down the road from us and some of the scaffolding blew down earlier and was blocking the road so the emergency services were there clearing it up. Now we are hearing that a tree has come down further up the road and it sounds like it may have damaged a house too.

message 734: by Lynn (new)

Lynn | 2974 comments Where exactly are you two again? It's not too bad in York, windy but nothing terrible but with pretty heavy rain that hasn't stopped all day.

I hope everything stays ok with you Sarah ::fingers crossed::

message 735: by Tasha (last edited Feb 08, 2016 06:08AM) (new)

Tasha I hope things move along and out quickly for you, Sarah, it sounds very scary. You too, Lisa!! HIgh winds like that are really scary. Sending positive thoughts your way!!

message 736: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments I am in the South West, Bradford on Avon is the nearest town to me at the moment. The storm is coming in from the South West coast and then sweeping over the South towards London. Just when I think it can't get any worse it does. I'm amazed at how strong some trees are, the way they are moving around is crazy. The rain has stopped for a bit but the wind persists. They have the flood barriers out around the bridge in Bradford on Avon. I hope it holds as the next bridge along going over the river has already had to shut because of flooding. The tracks aren't looking good either but fingers crossed I'll be able to get to work tomorrow. I'll think about that later. Just need to get through the wind.

message 737: by Tasha (new)

Tasha We posted at the same time, Sarah. I hope all stays safe there for you.

I'm in the South-East, between London and Oxford. The winds died down a bit earlier but are getting stronger again now. It's a bit chaotic outside at the moment, the tree that came down earlier is still blocking the road and the police are now diverting the traffic.

message 740: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59884 comments That sounds really scary, Sarah. I hope the wind dies down quickly and there's no damage.

message 741: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments Sarah, has the storm passed through yet? It's still fairly windy here but it has died down a lot in the past hour or so.

message 742: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments It's died down so much. I'd say the wind had dropped to below 20mph and I can hardly hear the trees moving now. Just the occasional stronger gust. That is it for now I think. Phew. We survived unscathed, boat intact :-)

message 743: by Lynn (new)

Lynn | 2974 comments YAY :)

message 744: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I was gonna say it sounds like the wind that swept the states last week. Lasted like 12 hours or something where it was 60-70 moh gusts

Yes i think the news said it came from the US. It's a completely different evening now.

message 747: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sarah (sarahlou29) | 1302 comments It has been crazy here today. I'm not too far from you Sarah. In Bristol and 70mph wind. I was worried about the double decker buses as it's quite hilly where I am and the wind was incredibly strong. Some people even cycled today. How crazy. Heavy rainfall and a thunderstorm this morning and a few flashes of lightening in the evening too. Now it's so quiet out there it's kind of eerie.

message 750: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Glad the storm is over for all of you in the UK. We have had two beautiful sunny days, here in Oregon. After all of our rain and cloudy skies, it was sooooo nice. I am hoping it will blow over to you Sarah, Lisa, Lynn and Sarah.

Haven't seen anything from Peggy. Hope all is well in their house and safe and warm.
