Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments CFDeeDee, shoulder pain is no fun at all. I hope it eases up for you soon.

message 653: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I hope you feel better soon Sandra, and that your shoulder pain is over soon as well CFDeeDee.

message 654: by CFDeeDee (new)

CFDeeDee @Stephanie It's more around the shoulder blade .. I do few stretches between now and then, but no use! And when I do 'em I feel like I just wanna break my shoulder, and only then the pain would go !

@Joan Never used ice before, I should give it a try

@Lynda I thought about massages, but its too expensive around here ! It might reach over $100 for a pro 1 hour massage !

@Sandra hmmmm Never thought of seeing a doctor. I would if it got any worse though.

@Lisa It is not. When I tell my sister about it she acts like its something normal and has no pain at all !

@Peggy I hope so too, thanks

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments Lynda, I got a flu bug here last year that was just me dizzy for a week. I couldn't really stand up for 3 days, just spinning all over the place. My boss' partner got the same thing and while I decided it was a virus and would ride it out, he went to a doctor. Confirmed it was a virus and you needed to ride it out :P I came out $70 better ;)

As our flu seasons are out of whack (you get mutilations we had, and then we catch mutations you guys get. The vaccinations are at least based on you guys though, but still) you could just have what I had in August. Feel better though. It's an disconcerting thing to have. I remarked to Lexx "I either have the flu or a brain tumor. I'm willing to reassess in a week."

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments CFDeeDee, got something like tiger balm, dencorub, heat balm of some sort. I smother myself in tiger balm and go for a long sleep when my neck/shoulder seazes up. Long hot shower first as well. Relax the muscles, heat the muscles, and then completely relaxing them through deep sleep. Only time your body fully relaxes and heals.

message 657: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments Same for you Sandra, those heat treatments may help you too hopefully?

message 658: by Stephanie (new)

I missed that you were sick, Geez, I hope you feel better soon! Being a momma to that crowd you need to get better fast! Are you able to rest at all?

Lynda, you too. I hope you get better soon too!

message 660: by Tasha (last edited Feb 05, 2016 05:01AM) (new)

Tasha CFDeeDee, do you guys have homeopathic stuff over there? You could try Arnica for the pain. There are other rememdies that may help but arnica is a good place to start if you can get your hands on some.

message 661: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments Oh arnica is over here and not considered homeopathic in any shape or form. So yes, a good one for bruising.

message 662: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I think it's more popular in other countries, the US is much more focused on big pharma stuff. I love the stuff so I hope CFDeeDee can get her hands on some.

message 663: by Lynda (new)

Lynda | 836 comments Maybe I should reassess not getting flu shots next year, if this is the form it could take - I've never gotten them, because I never get the flue unless an incredible aggressive strain starts going around. My mom either. Typically everyone around us drops likes flies, but my mom and I stand tall through it. However, the dizziness is the worst, because I'm super spacey in addition to not feeling well. At work I've been known to stare at my computer, just zoned out trying to remember what I'm doing. It's not been fun!

CFDeeDee, are you drinking enough water? Keeping hydrated will help decrease pain from those repetitive stress injuries.

message 664: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments Thanks everyone. I think I'm less bad, but still feeling unwell. My 3 years old son ran a fever during the night, and my 17 months old has already a running nose. I expect my husband to be here in an hour to take care of the kids and house so I can rest for a while.
I feel weird. I don't usually get sick. I'm the one nursing people. :) I don't know how to stay in bed, but I think today I'll just fall dead as soon as I can put my head in the pillow.

message 665: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I admire you Sandra! When I feel really sick (which thankfully is rare) I just want to be in bed or on the couch with nobody bothering me. When you're a mom, especially with such small kids, it must be really hard. Glad your husband will be home soon :)

message 666: by Lynda (new)

Lynda | 836 comments Glad to hear your husband is able to give you some time to rest, it's hard when there's a house full of little sick people. And, really rest is the best thing for us when we're not feeling well.

message 667: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments You can get the arnica homeopathic pills here but also the herb in health food stores and the balm, gel to rub on skin. the latter is my favourite. A bath in Epsom salts is good as it has magnesium in which absorbs through the skin in to the muscles which is very good for muscle tension. if you have knots in shoulders. grab a tennis or golf ball. place between shoulder and wall and rub up and down. I swear by this.

message 668: by Tasha (new)

Tasha That's funny that you say that, Sarah. My husband does the same thing with a ball when his muscles are cramped/tensed in his back. He has this little ball that was my daughter's and uses that but first he had to go buy her a new one. ;) He recently got a larger one from his chiro. That's a great suggestion, he loves it!

message 669: by CFDeeDee (new)

CFDeeDee @Rusalka The jell thing I'm using is similar to those, but it's more liquid, called analgesic liquid.

@Tasha Never seen those around ! Not sure if I could find any.

@Lynda I always having a bottle near by, but I think my body hates water! Whenever I drink I water I either have to use the loo or my body sweat it out ! So, I'm always dehydrated no matter how much water I drink !

@Sandra Hate it when kids get sick :( hope they get well soon and you too

@Sarah Never tried that before .. I should give it a try

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments http://www.telegraph.co.uk/books/what...

I just spotted this article on Twitter and thought I would link it. Has anyone here ever told a porky pie about reading one (or more) of the books on the list? Or any other book for that matter? I will put my hands up, when I was in school, I used to tell people that I had read Great Expectations when in fact, I hadn't. I did read it a few years later though so I am off the hook with that one ;)

message 671: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I haven't lied about reading a book. I have read 14 of the 20 listed. I own Catch-22 but havent' read it. that will make me 15 when I do. Alice Adventures, 50 shades of grey, pride and prejudice, And then there were none, and catcher in the rye are the 5 I haven't read nor own. Catcher in the rye and alices adventures I may get to some day. Pride and Prejudice, and then there were none and 50 shades of gray I will never read I'm certain.

I've only read 7 on the list, but a few of the others I want to get to eventually. I don't think I've ever lied about reading a book.

message 673: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I have read 8 of the 20 listed so far, including the 'Fifty Shades' trilogy. I own 'War and Peace' but I need to really psyche myself up to read it. It's so daunting! I tried watching the new BBC tv adaptation but only got about 20 minutes into the first episode before giving up. I didn't like it at all and that has made me even more reluctant to read the book.

message 674: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sarahlou29) | 1302 comments I've also read 8 of those Lisa. I lied about reading Great Expectations in school to haha. And watched one of the many films for my GCSE. I have no idea how I passed my English Lit Exam lol. To this day I still haven't watched it properly or read it.

message 675: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sarahlou29) | 1302 comments I'm intrigued to know which ones people have read now. I've read Alice, 50 shades, Harry Potter, Anne Frank, LOTR, And then there were none (one of my fave books), Gatsby (disappointing) and Anna Karenina (quite difficult to read that one).

I really want to read Sherlock Holmes. And would like to attempt the Charles Dickens books listed on there too.

message 676: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I read only 5 of that list. And a half, one I never finished.

I don't think I ever lied about having read a book.

message 677: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments I read 8 of the list: Alice's Adventures In Wonderland, The Lord Of The Rings trilogy, Anna Karenina, The Adventures Of Sherlock Holmes, To Kill A Mockingbird, Pride And Prejudice, The Diary Of Anne Frank, The Great Gatsby.
I don't remember lying about a book I didn't read. But I was sure I had read Little Women, and at some point I realized I didn't. I only had watched the movie, a few times. I read it after that.

I took a 5 hours nap. First time since I was a toddler. :) I feel better. I expect to be back to normal tomorrow. Thanks to everyone for your best wishes. :)

message 678: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I have not read War and Peace, Anna K, Bleak House, nor The Great Gatsby. I made it 1/2 way through Crime and Punishment before I quit and only read the 1st book of the Fifty Shades trilogy. The only one I am not sure about is Catch 22. I am pretty sure I read it many years ago, but I cannot remember. That may be the one I lied about on my Read list. All of the rest I did read.

message 679: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Anna K. Hated it. Gatsby. Hated it. Ended up liking War and peace but took me a long time with a lot of breaks. The rest of them I enjoyed quite a lot actually

message 680: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments I agree about Gatsby, Travis. I think I rated it 2 stars. I liked Anna Karenina, though.

message 681: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments Anna K, the longest grass cutting manual you will ever read.

message 682: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I read Gatsby in high school but the only thing I remember from it is something about a green light?
I watched the movie with DiCaprio and liked it though :-)

message 683: by Joan (new)

Joan I hated Great Gatsby too, which is almost a crime if you live on the north shore of long island. I love the Alice in wonderland books. I think I saw one one of the movies in the 90's, but didn't enjoy it.

message 684: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments I've had a terrible few weeks at work, as has a friend of mine, so we are going out with our partners tonight to a 5 course degustation, 8 wines, and literary trivia at a new bookshop/restaurant/bar in town. Will report back in 7 hours or so ;)

message 685: by Tejas Janet (new)

Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments I love and hate Great Gatsby. It goes to the heart of American love for money. It's a masterful in capturing that in my opinion.

But so many seem to embrace it for the love of money and greed. Which is the sad side of America.

I also love the Alice in Wonderland books. My favorites ever.

message 686: by CFDeeDee (new)

CFDeeDee Interesting to read about your lists ! I never had one before, even for the challenge there is a big chance that I would change the books I planned on reading 'em !

message 687: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments That sounds fun Rusalka!

message 688: by Anne (Booklady) (new)

Anne (Booklady) Molinarolo (wwwgoodreadscomAnneMolinarolo) | 1282 comments Sarah, I hope you and your kids feel better soon.

Lisa, Interesting list. Alice in Wonderland, huh? I've read all 20 when I was in high school and college. But I'd like to re-read them now to see if my feelings for the books are the same. A few of them I did re-read last year

message 689: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I really like 'The Great Gatsby'. However, I have never been a fan of 'Pride and Prejudice'. I don't hate it but I do think it's overrated.

message 691: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments Report back: fun night. Food okay, wines great, literary trivia was half about wine. Didn't get to check out the books, and I may go back to try the normal menu. They are hosting lots of author events, so no doubt I'll go back. But they will have to wow the socks off me. I love the concept though.

message 692: by Lynn (new)

Lynn | 2974 comments That's a shame about the food but glad you enjoyed the night

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments I dislike trivia nights that let you cheat with phones as well. We did it fairly, and then found out all the other teams cheated :(

They should make everyone turn in their phones or put them away at the beginning of trivia ;)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments Stephanie wrote: "They should make everyone turn in their phones or put them away at the beginning of trivia ;) "

Agreed. And actively police, and name and shame people as they are caught, with penalties! Instead we got "We saw lots of phones out. Lol. Here's who won all the wine and free stuff!" Bah. I wouldn't mind if there was no reward for bad behaviour, but it was a bit crap.
