It's been a crazy month! Let's hope the rest of the year is better!

Lynda | 836 comments Paul Kantner died a couple days ago, also. I grew up outside San Francisco, so Jefferson Airplane was essential.

Sarah | 18549 comments Yes I just heard about Sir Terry. He always made me laugh. January has been a bad month for celebrities passing from Cancer.

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I'm glad that January is finally over. Is it just me or did it feel even longer than usual this year?

message 606: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie January felt like it went on FOREVER!

message 607: by Lynn (new)

Lynn | 2974 comments I'm totally the opposite, I can't believe it's February already!

message 608: by CFDeeDee (new)

CFDeeDee Speaking of a month going forever, nothing feels like going forever but August!

Ones it went - starting 1st of August - like this:
Summer holiday, back to school, having people getting their salaries - twice -, having Eid holiday, somewhere in the world a war started and ended, my sister's birthday, an I guess some celebrity passed away!
It felt like what could happen in a year happened in "month-year" !

It calls to read:

Stephanie Started a new course today for school. So far I have 4 certificates of completion.
Our snow we had just over a week ago, is pretty much gone. The weather has been really nice, minus today, as today is raining. The hockey game we were going to go to that was rescheduled due to the "Blizzard" we had has been rescheduled but it is a late game, so my husband will have to find a friend to go with him. Blake, our dog, is on medicine for his joints and he has to take 2 pills a day but they have to be 12 hours a part and with food and since the game is a far drive, it just doesn't work for both of us to go this time.

Anyone doing anything fun for Valentine's Day coming up?

message 612: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Sounds like school is going great Stephanie! We don't do anything for valentine's, never do really. Maybe I got him a card in the first year we were together but that's it.

We finally have a working dishwasher again after two weeks!! When I was making dinner I thought with every single pan and utensil and cutlery I used: yay! I don't have to wash this!

Yay for working dishwashers! :D Did you get a new one in the end Peggy or did you manage to get your old one fixed?

message 614: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments We got a new one. The guy who came look at it said it would be better to get a new one, as this one was 15 years old and fixing it would cost over 500 euros. We bought a new one last week but it took a while to get it delivered. Next week we should get the couch, kitchen table and chairs and then we're all set!

message 615: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments No to Valentine's day. We've never celebrated it. It's just an excuse to make money for businesses I think. it takes the romance out of it. but that's just me.

Our car failed it's MOT yesterday which we weren't expecting. we thought it might cost a lot to repair so we were thinking we might have to get a new vehicle. but we were quoted £170 to fix all that needs doing in order to get the MOT which is ok. So we can breathe a sigh of relief :-)

We went to the pub on Monday where there was a boat fire safety talk given by the long fire brigade. There have been a few fires on boats in the area recently, some of which have been fatal. It was good although it did make me worry a little. we were given two free fire alarms and a carbon monoxide tester which is cool. so my job for tomorrow is putting them up in the boat. we do have some already but the more the merrier and those aren't positioned right apparently. Also got to catch up with some other boaters which was nice.

message 616: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments We don't do valentines day either. I may get flowers or sonething or I may not. You never know. Not much of a surprise if you do it every year so I do it randomly

message 617: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments That's good about the alarms Sarah. There's only one in our new house, but we're looking into new ones which are interconnected. I think there should be one on every floor and when one goes off the others should go off too.

message 618: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments In the US if you build a new house you must have smoke detector in every bedroom and then so many through rest of house. Ayve carbon monoxide in bedrooms too. It ends up being a lot though. New regulation of past couple years

message 619: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments A friend and I decided to change work-scenery and worked from a little cafe instead of uni this afternoon. It was a place called Chocolate Company which specialises in hot chocolate. They have dozens of different kinds! It's these blocks of chocolate on a wooden spoon that you put in warm milk. I got almond raspberry and it was so good! You can actually taste the almond and raspberry. I got some for at home too: chili, cinnamon, salty caramel, and blueberry honey thyme. They are ridiculously expensive when you think about it but sometimes you just gotta spoil yourself!

message 620: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments There might be similar rules here Travis, but the house we bought was built in 1975 so no regulations about fire alarms.

message 621: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Yay for a new dishwasher, Peggy!
Last year for Valentine's I made my hubby a Valentine. I took a tackle box and put gummy candy worms, reses pieces, and some gummy candy fish. I put a note on it saying something like, "you're my kind of catch." Happy Valentines Day. I felt like being cheesy last year but we don't normally celebrate it :-)

message 622: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Lol, that's cheesy but very sweet Stephanie! :)

message 623: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments I think there are regs for rental properties. Boats have regs as part of the safety certificate which is done every 4 years. we bought 3 extinguishers and a fire blanket too so we're all kitted out.

That chocolate place sounds amazing Peggy. I'm jealous. :-)

I've seen recipes on pinterest for making different types of hot chocolate on a spoon like you are talking about. I started to make some for Christmas presents this past year but I decided to make jewelry instead.

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments I was just uploading something to photobucket and it reminded me that I never did share pictures of my new laundry room/half bathroom on here.

Ignore the dirty rug (which was used to move the washer and dryer into the room without scratching the paint). This was taken immediately after we got everything in the room. We still have some finishing work to do: I need shelving installed and a mirror above the sink. I want to stain the unfinished wood to match the vanity, but my husband likes it as is. Besides that, we have a fully functional laundry room and half bathroom after living in our house for almost 5 years!

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Interesting use of the aluminum siding as the wall finish. Is it over dry wall or instead of it? Sure is bright! I like the sink unit too. And it is bolted to the floor to keep from moving around, which is hard on the plumbing. Novel use of the tub for the sink but it doesn't look big enough to wash the dog. :o)

I love the sink/tub. So cool! The whole room is nice.

message 634: by Lynda (new)

Lynda | 836 comments I really like the sink, and the dark stain is a great finish.

My friends and I are celebrating single's awareness day on Saturday by going to hockey. The Thunderbirds are playing Portland on a Saturday night so that should be a good game. It always gets a little cra-cra when the Winterhawks visit.

So this week I've been really light-headed and dizzy, and a little nauseous as well, especially this morning. Talking with a co-worker, she's experiencing that too, and I guess a girl who works in the espresso stand on our lot ended up going to the hospital. I don't know what's going on, if there is some sort of chemical that we're breathing in, or if it's a virus. I don't like it, at all!

Janice (jamasc) | 59884 comments Lynda wrote: "So this week I've been really light-headed and dizzy, and a little nauseous as well, especially this morning...."

Dizziness sucks. I get it periodically myself. If there are several of you, I would wonder if it's viral. Sometimes dizziness is an aftereffect of the flu.

message 636: by Lynda (new)

Lynda | 836 comments That's what I'm thinking at the moment, since it doesn't seem to be affecting everyone. I would think it would affect more people if it's environmental. That's always a concern because we do use chemicals in our industry, but they're not caustic.

message 637: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments Thanks, everyone!

Cherie wrote: "Interesting use of the aluminum siding as the wall finish. Is it over dry wall or instead of it? Sure is bright! I like the sink unit too. And it is bolted to the floor to keep from moving around, ..."

It is bright. My husbad for some reason thought the little tiny room needed 5 LED light fixtures! Hopefully once I get some shelving installed and something on the walls it will tone down the brightness.
No drywall. We took in part of our garage to build the room so it is plywood, insulation, and tin on three of the four walls.

re: dizziness, I've been having that a lot lately too, but I'm pretty sure mine is caused by inner ear issues. But I've been extra paranoid about it because the in area I live in there has been an outbreak of norovirus. One clinic located in one of the larger cities near here was interviewed on the news last week and they said they were seeing 20-50 cases of norovirus a day.

message 638: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments 5 led fixtures holy smokes. Was he familiar with led lights prior. They are bright suckers and so cheap to run. I love them

message 639: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments led lights are a godsend to us. our old bulbs used 21 watts of power whilst our leds use under 1 watt each. So our batteries last longer. they are quite bright though I agree.

message 640: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I don't know what the equivalent of a tube light is but a dairy barn milking area had to be lit using 100watt incandescent bulbs. Your cfl bulbs equal to 100 watt used about 21-23 watts. Led bulbs were 19. Then dropped to 17 and the last ones I bought a couple mobths ago dropped to 15 watts. Huge difference. I've been converting to led for probably 4 years now. The first bulbs I bought were $60 a piece. Then $30 a piece. $25. The last ones I got were $15-$17 I can't remember. It has veen a huge investment through the years. Esoecially since I jumped on it oretty early. Stuck with the same brand but the bulb itself keeps changing. They are a lot smaller now. But with all the electeic motors and light bulbs to run a farm electricity is a huge expense so every investment in energy savings is huge for us

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments @Stephanie, good luck with your new course. It seems you are making good use of this opportunity, I'm glad for you!

@Peggy, Enjoy your new dishwasher. At least you know now that you don't have to worry about it for a long time. And the Chocolate Company sounds like heaven...

@Kimey, the laundry room/bathroom looks great. I can envision the shelves, etc. I agree that stain the wood would be a plus. Press harder on your husband! :)

@Lynda, I hope you feel better soon. Dizziness it's the worst thing.
It seems I caught a cold a couple of days ago. Running nose, tearing eyes, sore throat, and my body feels like if someone had been boxing it. I'd love to just stay in my bed forever, but who can do that? Crazy life... we don't are not even allowed to stop when feeling sick...

Not Valentine's Day here, except for the treats the kids bring to school.

When he bought and started installing them I don't think he was all that familiar. This room has been probably a year in the making and the lights were one of the first things he did. I actually think he was going to put 6 or 8 in originally but I managed to talk him down to just 5. LOL. I think he got the fixtures as leftovers from a construction project he did that the owner didn't need and they sold to him for a bargain.

@Sandra, I'm letting him keep the unfinished wood for a little while, maybe a year, then I'll sweep in and stain it dark to match the vanity. :)

CFDeeDee Lots of things been going on with you guys

@Stephanie Good luck in school.
Never cared that much for Valentine.

@Peggy Congratz on the new dishwasher .. Hope the table and couches arrive sooner than you think
That chocolate sounds so good.

@Sarah Never had fire alarms in our house! I guess its cuz we have some kind of smoke around between now and then which would set on the alarms for no reason .. Just guessing !

@Kimey Your laundry room looks so neat

Can't believe how busy I got lately, my shoulders hurts cuz of all the work I did, and knowing I have sensitive shoulders, any kind of hands work would lead to shoulders pain!

Any idea on how to stop the pain? My sister suggested a hot pack, but I hate it when my back gets hot.
And I have a muscle jell thingy, which I apply when I get the pain, it causes a very strong "burning" feeling into the muscles, but it feels so good with the pain.
But I can't take it any more!
I need to do my work without shoulders pain!

Sorry for not replying on every one, it's getting really late and the shoulder pain is horrible.
I should catch up on you guys soon.

message 646: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Sorry to hear about your shoulder pain CFDeeDee. Is it mostly near your neck or shoulder blade? I've only ever done heat and gel stuff for any shoulder pain I have had. Maybe there are stretches you can do that won't aggravate your shoulder?

message 647: by Joan (new)

Joan CFDeeDee, I find ice works best for my shoulder pain..I know many people use heat.
Kimmey that laundry room is beautiful...what a great idea.
I saw The Old Vic production of "A View From The Bridge" on Broadway yesterday. It was a cast from the U.K. It is great see it if you get a chance.

message 648: by Tasha (new)

Tasha Kimey, the bathroom/laundry room looks great! Enjoy. :D

Peggy, enjoy that dishwasher! It's so nice to have one running again I bet.

message 649: by Lynda (last edited Feb 04, 2016 06:05PM) (new)

Lynda | 836 comments Sorry you're sick, Sandra, and that your in so much pain CFDeeDee. My doctor has told me that though heat might feel good, ice is actually better for it. Something like Ice-y Hot is good, it helps relax that muscle if it's inflamed. I've recently started to get a deep-tissue massage to help alleviate problems with carpal tunnel syndrome and some leg pain. It's been great, though I still get pretty sore afterwards.

message 650: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments Thank you, Lynda. I feel really bad. It had been only 2 days. I hope it doesn't take a week. I'm worried about this virus start going around the house, as usually happens. So far I'm the only one. How are you feeling?

CFDeeDee, maybe you should ask your doctor if massages could be recommendable for your case. I hope you feel better soon.
