Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments I agree, Janice. I'd love to live between 21-25C all the year.

Stephanie @KimeyDiann we were able to dig our vehicles out yesterday :) my hubby was able to go to work today and said the roads he drove were clear and not icy. (He has 4 wheel drive though). I think I will wait another day before venturing out ;)

That just increases the beauty of it. You must have a very steady hand to make it so perfect. I can barely paint my toenails without getting polish all around the nails. I also can't draw a stick figure so anything that involves artistic ability counts me out. LOL.

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments I always find it funny when I've been in Europe and it hits 20C and all of a sudden there are singlet tops and shorts everywhere. I'm still in jumper or a hoodie and jeans, with a coat on standby. Mad, I tell you. But all about experience!

I've had 4 days off, as it's Australia Day today so I took yesterday off to have 4 days in a row. I have been flat out, so I feel like I should have gone to work. I dropped Lexx at work yesterday at 9.30am, and then went and did shopping for food, house/garden supplies, travel supplies so I don't have to worry in a month's time, and clothes for travelling and weddings.

Finished all that by 2pm, went to my Mum's and then spent the afternoon fitting for my bridesmaids dress for my brother's wedding (we had to mail order it from a site, and the thing is ridiculous. I have no idea who they thought they were making the dress for, but my closest guess is a turtle. So much fabric on the back. Mum's going to have to rebuild the whole bodice) and my sari for the Hindu wedding in the Caribbean. Then family dinner.

Today, I want to read *some* of my book, but we have a street party with the neighbours that we really should go to, as we have lived on the street for 8 years and only know one house of neighbours. And we have to cook to bring stuff... urgh.

First World Problems if I have ever heard any!!

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments So if you want to see how most Australians spend Australia Day, the Hottest 100 is ungeoblocked. It's the list of the top 100 songs released in 2015 as voted by Aussies (several million vote each year). Aussie and international music. Started 2 mins ago and will go for 7 hours or so. First song (#100) is Aussie hip hop :/ so I take no responsibility for what is played. http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/hottest...

When we went to visit in California during the winter and it was 15C, my kids would be out in shorts and t-shirts and my mother would gripe a them to come in and put some clothes on.

It was 13C and sunny here in Portland today. I went out and ran errands at lunch just to get some sun. It is currently 10C here at 6:00pm and the clouds are moving in for more rain for the next week. No sun forecast until Tuesday of NEXT week for us.

Rusalka is having a fine day downunder @24C, but expecting rain.

Sarah | 18549 comments Hope you had a good Australia Day Rusalka.

I'd love to see a pic of your sari Rusalka. It's too early for me to know whether I'll be wearing a sari or a normal bridesmaid dress for my cousin's wedding. At least i don't need to think about what to wear as it will be chosen for me.

I can't decide whether to walk or cycle to the station today. It's not too far this time but it's really windy and it's forecast to chuck it down anytime now. Not sure which I'll remain the driest.

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments Thanks all!

Australia Day is a weird one. I love having a random day to celebrate us (I think in a low key way is the appropriate way). But I recognise it is a very sad and hurtful day for other Australians. I think we need to find another day (in summer) to celebrate an inclusive and whole Australia.

But I'll never turn my nose up at a free day off work!!

I love saris. Their colours and the way you have to wear it is so unique and nice.

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments Well, as a redhead (although not so much at the moment, gone a bit brown, but with the same complexion), white as white, freckled, blue eyed person, I had some trouble with all the gorgeous colours that were not meant to be worn by someone like me. So I finally found this one:

 photo IMG_3437_zpsemhdb49r.jpg

Friend who's wedding it is loves it, and my tailor mother says it's a perfect colour for me. So win!! Can't really go wrong with blue and gold though...

So this is the sari before the bodice is cut out of it and made (luckily I asked the question, as I wasn't sure where the blouse came from... apparently this is obvious to anyone who wears a sari regularly so everyone forgot to tell the Aussie). So it's 5.5m at the moment, and from our playing yesterday, it'll end up still being 4.5m after we make the top.

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments It's beautiful, Rusalka! I'm sure it will suit you. I know it's not the same, but my husband is white, blond-brownish hair, and (the most beautiful) blue eyes, and he wears a t-shirt pretty the same color as your sari, and he looks gorgeous, specially his eyes.

I have a sari my husband brought me from Hyderabad a few years ago. It's a mustard color, with gold a little maroon. I've never wore it, but my oldest daughter used it for a project on Indian clothes in 7th grade. She ended her presentation showing how you put a sari on (after watching a tutorial a thousand times). It was really cool. She got a A+, and all the kids in her class loved the idea, and wanted to try MY sari. The poor sari looks now as if I had used it every day for 2 years... :) But it's ok. I'm all about knowledge spreading! :)

My mom was given a yellow sari from one of the Indian teachers in the high school. My faulty memory says that she made 3 dresses from it - one each for herself, me and my sister, but I only remember my sister's. I just remember this cute little kid in this frilly bright yellow dress.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I had dinner in a michelin-star restaurant last Thursday. I was at a conference and that was where the dinner took place. Apparently it didn't have a star yet when conference arrangements were made, but it got one in November. The food was very good! Unfortunately because of my lactose-intolerance I got some different and less special dishes than the other people, but still, really nice food!

I would love to eat at one of those restaurants 'for real', where you have many many of such small but very special and technical dishes. But it's so expensive so I've never been. Thursday it was still quite 'normal' food because they have to give the same to over 100 people and I guess you have to be careful so that everyone will enjoy it.

Today is VERY rainy and VERY windy. I went outside this morning to buy bread but that's it. I'm working today so that I can have Monday off (bf has Monday off too) and we can go shop for some stuff to decorate the new home. The walls are still empty. Oh, it's so nice to be in our new big kitchen, warm and cozy, with the wind howling outside and the rain against the garden doors <3

I'm a foodie and work in the industry and have been fortunate enough to eat at some really high end restaurants. Every time I go to them, I always have the tasting menu. It may seem like the expensive choice but actually it's the most value for money and you get to try more dishes.

If / when you can afford, definitely do it :)

message 594: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments That sounds amazing Lynn! I love watching these top chefs both cook and plate dishes on tv.

It makes sense that it's most value for money, but if I compare the price to having a meal at a non-star local restaurant the difference is quite big ;-) I have to convince my bf though. He likes good food and trying new things, but he doesn't have the patience to sit down for dinner for hours and he doesn't like plates with beautiful but little food on it. But, my birthday is coming up. Maybe I suggest that as a present he can take me to one of those restaurants :)

I was watching Masterchef Junior on tv last night. It was the finale with two 9 year old girls wowing the likes of Gordon Ramsay. It's just amazing.
