Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments We had around 4 inches (10 cm) of snow last night, but it's still snowing (light snow though) and is expect to go on for the whole day. It's our first snow this winter, we had just a little 10 days ago, but not even enough to shovel. Everything looks so beautiful... And the silence that the snow brings, is special. I like when this happens on weekends, so there's not rush for clear the way.
No storm here at all, just a normal snow fall.

Definitely :)

I feel really bad for the little doggies at our apartment building :( I knew I should have purchased a shovel this year :)

I feel bad for DC :( I'm not sure of the accumulation total here in Charlottesville ( we are about 100 miles or so from DC). The snow really needs to stop...anytime now would be great :) we were planning on going to the hockey game tomorrow in DC but doesn't look like that will happen. I hope the game gets post poned so we can at least go at a later date. They postponed last nights game so there is hope :)

it snowed for about an hour yesterday - the big cotton ball stuff - and my students went crazy, but then it turned to sleet and ice and was pretty slick. We had 50 mile an hour winds and about 2 1/2 inches of rain last night. I live in Virginia Beach, so it was like a little tropical storm here. Still staying in the house for round 2 which will bring the snow and freeze the wet roads. It's a hot chocolate slow cooker day. I've already read 1 book :)

message 511: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I love Virginia Beach, Jayme :) I bet the ocean/beach looks beautiful :) hope you all stay safe and warm! It is still snowing in Charlottesville! I think we got a little sleet last night but it is back to snow. I haven't seen any big flakes just tiny ones. Hasn't been too windy yet here :)

message 512: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I woke to a lot of snow out there and it's still snowing! Maybe this time the media had it right... ;)

It's gorgeous out there but I am NOT excited about getting the dogs out this morning (slept late). I'd much rather stay in!

Lilisa | 2770 comments Stay safe you all on the East Coast!

message 514: by Tasha (new)

Tasha My one dog stepped outside, sank in the snow and ran back in the house. I had to shovel a little path for them to do their stuff. They are not happy...but my daughter is! I measured 15" at 9:30 this morning and it's still snowing.

We are nearly neighbors. Charlottesville is a wonderful place. Enjoy the snow. :)

message 516: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie @Tasha..oh poor pups :( that is so much snow! We went out and measured at 10:30 this morning and we're almost at 11 inches :(

message 517: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie @Jayme..are you all getting snow today as well?

message 518: by Tasha (new)

Tasha We are going out to shovel/snow blow now so they will have more space soon. haha

message 519: by Lynda (new)

Lynda | 836 comments Stay safe and warm everyone who is dealing with winter storms. Blake looks beautiful against that white background; he has such a pretty coat. I always say if it's going to snow - snow on the weekend! Sorry you had to miss your hockey game, Stephanie.

Our cold snap has finally broken, and we're back to standard 40° F and rain. After the icy madness of the past month, I'm pretty grateful for that. Especially as it seems our office might be moving across town this next month.

CFDeeDee your feet are beautiful! It makes a standard pedicure hang its head in shame. How long did that take?

I'm having a pretty chill day, I have some grocery shopping to do, and I think I'll schedule a message.

Yes!!! I'm curious to see how much snow you get normally :) I've seen this much growing up in Washington state..just not all at once ;)

Ugh! Hope you guys don't get as much there :) most of the snow on the back of the cars is from the plows :(

message 527: by Stephanie (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59884 comments I like your henna feet, too CFDeeDee. I went to the Robbie Burns supper tonight with my friend and her granddaughter who was dancing with the highland dancers school. I was showing your picture to them and we all thought the henna was the coolest thing.

ETA: It doesn't matter how far back that Scottish blood is in a person's veins, because the pipes and drums will stir it up! A wee bit of haggis and some Robbie Burns poems, and you'll have me talking with a Scottish brogue.

after wrestling with the snowblower and shoveling, I settled down with Colin Firth in Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

Yes I know. We have all greatly enjoyed seeing a blizzard hit somewhere else for once. Now I see worries about flooding when it melts though which is a problem we have also but I don't like to see anyone have to deal with flooding.

message 538: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments Love the pics CFDeeDee. Interestingly, I have just found out that I will be getting henna on my hands and arms as I have been asked to be a bridesmaid for my cousin and she is of Indian descent. She's having a mix of Western and Indian. It's not until next year but I'm excited.

Love all the snow pictures. I've been to places (mainly in the mountains) where snow has been that deep but I've never experienced it like that here in the UK. Apparently the weather front you are experiencing in the US will cause ridiculous amounts of rain here soon so that should be fun for us.

I'm not going to be around all that much this week, just popping in as and when, as we are moored in a place where there is no internet. It's not exactly in the middle of nowhere but I'm guessing the woods and the embankment aren't helping.

message 539: by CFDeeDee (new)

CFDeeDee Love the snow pictures, it feels like its from a movie ^^"

@Joan lovely dog, reminds my of my brother's..

@Sarah Thanks :D share a picture when you have some. I did design my hands and arms too, but I was more excited about my feet :P

message 540: by Peggy (last edited Jan 25, 2016 06:02AM) (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments That sounds so exciting Sarah, to go to a wedding that combines two cultures.

I went to a friend's wedding in Greece two years ago (she's Greek, her husband Dutch) and that was really awesome too. They had all kinds of Greek traditions and the ceremony was outside a small church on a beautiful location. Just the idea that you can get married outside without a plan B in case the weather sucks (even in summer) sounds amazing ;-)

Speaking of weather... whereas it was freezing and only +2C until a few days ago, right now it's sunny and 15C and it feels like spring. People are having a break outside without their coats on. If I was at home today I could maybe even have read a book outside in the garden!

message 541: by CFDeeDee (new)

CFDeeDee Woow, Peggy, how come 15C is spring? And no jackets too ?!
Its around 20C over here and we call it winter!

That is either fascinating, or odd !

message 542: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Hahaha CFDeeDee, I think calling 20C winter is fascinating and odd too ;-) When it's 20C and sunny many people will be out in shorts and skirts around here.

message 543: by CFDeeDee (new)

CFDeeDee Shorts and skirts?
They'll catch cold O.O
LOL now that is something

message 544: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments It's funny how it's all about your references. If it usually is 25C in summer (with some exceptional days of aroudn 30C), 20C is pretty warm.

I wonder if, when tourists from colder places visit your country in winter, they are very underdressed by your standards? I can imagine them walking around in tshirts while all the local people are wearing winter coats.

message 545: by Lynda (new)

Lynda | 836 comments Peggy, us Northwesterners would be breaking out the shorts and sandals, too, when the temps starting getting that high - especially in early spring, as if our clothing choices will bring summer sooner. However, in California, not so much - that might still be considered winter.

message 546: by CFDeeDee (new)

CFDeeDee Yeah, thats true Peggy. Usually the summer would be around 47C if not 50C.

message 547: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I can't even begin to imagine what that would be like. I guess it's similar to how you feel about snow and temperatures below 0 :)

That will be fun to get henna on your hands and arms. We'll want pictures.

Janice (jamasc) | 59884 comments CFDeeDee wrote: "Yeah, thats true Peggy. Usually the summer would be around 47C if not 50C."

I couldn't bear those temperatures! I like it around 25C. Anything hotter and I melt.

message 550: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments @CFDeeDee, the henna is beautiful! Did you free-hand the design or do you use a stencil?

@Stephanie, are you still snowed in?

The snow ended up being a non-event here. It was mostly just really cold and windy with some flurries. A hour or so west of here got a few inches, but it was mostly gone by Saturday. I enjoyed my day off of work though. I had a pretty lazy three day weekend and it was wonderful!
