Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments Hi Lynne, hope you join in. Lots of fun activities and discussions.

I wish sometimes that I lived in Colorado instead of Texas. But would rather live in New Mexico than either, just a personal opinion : )

message 204: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn Hello fellow readers. My name is Carolyn I'm from Minnesota, USA. I'm a new mom and I'm now a stay at home mom so between all the business I read. Some genres that I gravitate towards are YA and Fantasy. Fiction is great! I love getting to "escape" this world and dive into the world the author has created. I have never done buddy reads but they sound fun. Looking forward to getting to know some more people.

Suzanne Feldman | 4 comments Hi all--I'm Suzanne from Frederick, MD (USA). I like the classics, but I love Eco and Borges. Anybody else a sucker for surrealism? I'm here to see what others are reading and to widen my appetite.

message 213: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60035 comments Hi Suzanne, welcome! I've read some surrealism, but there are others in the group who have read more. We enjoy a wide range of tastes in this group and hopefully you'll be tempted.

message 217: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11293 comments Welcome, Suzanne! I've read a good amount of Borges when I was younger, but I'm not too engaged in surrealism now.

Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments Hi Suzanne, I enjoy breakfast surreal on an almost daily basis. What surrealism do you love most?

and welcome to YLTO!!

message 220: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Welcome Suzanne. I listened to The Manual of Detection and really liked the narrator. It wasn't quite monotone, but straightforward, kind of like Sgt. Joe Friday (if you're old enough to know who I'm referring to).

Oh I'm quite old enough to remember Joe Friday :) I sounds like a really interesting book.

message 222: by Lippes (new)

Lippes Hi all,
even though Goodreads calls me Lippes my real name is Peter and I'm from Germany. I simply love reading, ever did and I always have a book with me. Always! Everywhere!
Even though I'm not a fast reader. Maybe I'm not just not clever enough... but my own challenge of reading at least 30 books this year really is a tough one for me.
What kind of books do I read? I started with historic fiction but somehow they almost all follow the same plot and so I broke with them. Now I prefer crime novels or temporary fiction and I really love the American authors such as Joey Goebel, Annie Proulx, John Irving or T.C.Boyle. Unfortunately my English isn't too good to read them in their own words - so I usually have to wait until they're translated into German, which is sometimes quite annoying.
While waiting I love to read some European writers. Like Geert Mak, Harry Mulisch, Benedict Wells,... Especially I love those who have their own way of writing or telling a story like Wolf Haas.

Well and enjoying goodreads now for quite a while I thought maybe I should try out this group thing. I'm not too sure about the challenges but I do love the idea of buddy reading. Would be great to find buddies and friends around here and to read your thoughts and comments on all those wonderful books! So of course you're very welcome to add or comment whenever you like :)

Right now I've started "All the light we cannot see" and honestly it takes me a while to get into this book... Anyway, enough of me. Looking forward to read you all...:)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19219 comments Welcome Peter /Lippes!

Don't worry about your reading speed. it is much more important that you enjoy what you read. look forward to see what you get to read this year and maybe have a buddy read or two.

message 237: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11293 comments Welcome Konnie. I join a book club in real life, and I love it. But we only meet 1.5 hours a month to discuss one book. I spend many more hours here at YLTO talking about books. And adding new ones to my TBR, of course!

message 238: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60035 comments Welcome Konnie. I'm glad you've found our group. You'll find lots of people here with similar interests. Me, for one. I also belong to a real life book club and we meet every other month. Even still, some members don't get the book finished, but they still come and we have a great time.

message 239: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Welcome Jess. You'll have to post a picture of Bella in the Our Pets topic.

Hi Konnie. The good thing about online book groups is that you can chat whenever you want, and about whatever book you want.

Dee Blom Hi I'm Dee from Perth, Australia. Looking for some good book recommendations. I've recently fallen back in love with my local library and borrow out most of my books. I'm also a fan of pre loved books and do dabble in e-books on my kindle for convenience. Look forward to reading this month's book.
