Chit Chat About Books

New Purchases - 2016
Hah sorry Janice. So interesting is all. Travis, maybe we should continue in the Whatchya Doin' thread.
On topic, I went to the shops after dropping Lexx off at my brother's bucks night, and remembered the bookshop I had a birthday gift card was in that shopping centre. So I bought Fates and Furies and cleaned out my handbag. Win!
@Travis and Rusalka, we are a bunch of chit chatters, aren't we? :)@Janice and Kristie, you should give your passwords and everything to Travis' wife.
I guess you already know we are starting a buddy read on The Lake House today, but I checked its thread and didn't see you there, so just in case: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
AND, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society it's a 5 stars, Kristie!
Thanks, Sandra. I saw the buddy read and thought about joining, but I have too many other reads at the moment. Glad that Guernsey was a 5 star read! I'm looking forward to that.
Somewhere in this thread we were discussing Tell the Wolves I'm Home and possibly doing a buddy read. Looks like I'm probably going to be reading it sometime soon, so I just wanted to let people know that I'm putting a request in the buddy read thread if anyone wants to join me.
Yes anyone who frequently reports in this thread send your stuff to my wife. For the low price of $9.95 a month she will gladly curb your addiction
Kristie wrote: "Somewhere in this thread we were discussing Tell the Wolves I'm Home and possibly doing a buddy read. I'm already committed to more than I can read, so I'll wait and see when you get to it.
Travis of NNY wrote: "Yes anyone who frequently reports in this thread send your stuff to my wife. For the low price of $9.95 a month she will gladly curb your addiction"Lol, Travis, I think you found a niche market here!
Wait, I could buy a book a month for that price. I'm so tempted to go back to the audible sale and pick up Pretty Girls.
I almost got that one too, Janice. I have it on my TBR, but I've heard it's not her best writing and it's quite graphic, so I hesitated. Anyone read Pretty Girls want to weigh in?
That's one of the reasons I'm sitting on the fence about it, Kristie. I don't mind graphic, but my GR friends' ratings are all over the place. 5 stars, 1 star, 2 star, 4 star.
Sandra wrote: "Kristie wrote: "Somewhere in this thread we were discussing Tell the Wolves I'm Home and possibly doing a buddy read. Just hop over there and comment what time works for you, if you're interested.
I have seen "The Kind Worth Killing" a couple of times in here.In case you have not yet read it :-) I have the book at home, too and would be happy to do it as a group/buddy read perhaps in April.

I went back and got Pretty Girls.... I really do need an intervention!
Haha, Kristie!I shifted my splurging away from that sale and on to others. I picked up:
The Vampire's Mail Order Bride on whispersync ($0.00 Kindle, $1.99 Audible)
On today's Kindle deal I got the remaining Dominic Grey series. (I already own and read the first book The Summoner):
The Egyptian
The Diabolist
The Shadow Cartel
Great whisper sync deal! I love those. :)That Dominic Grey series looks really interesting. I don't think I've heard of it before.
I read the first book back in my Around the World challenge days. It's set in Zimbabwe. It was an okay read. But, the next books seemed intriguing and I figured that I'd read at least the next one if it crossed my path, as did the rest of the series. Well, it did. I figure that $1.99/book isn't much to lose if I don't like them. I'd feel a whole lot differently if they were $9.99 a book.
I tend to try books that are $1.99 or less. That's such a great deal. I start thinking about it more when they are 2.99 or 3.99. For that price, I expect it to be a book that I know I want to read. More than that and I start checking to see if my library has them. I don't typically pay more for electronic copies unless I really want to read them, a favorite author, series, etc.
I was checking the Nook sale books from Barnes & Noble and picked up:The Golden Compass
As Meat Loves Salt
Graceling
The Magician's Assistant
Kristie wrote: "Cherie - I really enjoyed Graceling much more than I expected to. I hope you love it."Me too. I got it for the Geo challenge, but it does sound good. Thanks!
I almost used one of my orecious 4 audible credits to ore order The Fireman today. I mean Kate Mulgrew is narrating we all know I'm going to buy it but since it won't be out til end of may I held off for now. I do think when time gets nearer though I may just like a buddy read for it. Its longer than I think normal for Hill. Or seems that way. Topic looks like a good buddy read. But I'll hold off on that for now too. You know in case I blow my credits on something else and forget about iy. Geez maybe I should go pre order
I've been tempted to pre order it too but I'm going to hold off. Definitely up for a buddy read for it. I've just entered a GR giveaway to win a copy so fingers crossed.
Got a little bonus at work ;-) (yay)and rewarded myself with a bookish order ...
- Dog Run Moon by Callan Wink
- What Is Not Yours Is Not Yours by Helen Oyeyemi
:-) particularly the first one has been highly recommended to me a couple of times. I am totally curious ...
I just bought Nest
for the monthly challenge and preordered The City of Mirrors
, which I've been waiting to read for years. I was considering getting 3 books fro the sale, but was hesitant because my library has them all available and though I want the books, I don't really want them. They weren't on my wish list or anything, they just look good. Then, I had a glitch in my Audible app that happens every so often. All of my finished books were no longer marked as finished. Does this happen to anyone else? I find it incredibly frustrating and I always have to go back through all my books and re-mark the ones I've read. Well, this certainly worked against Audible today. After scrolling through all of my books, I realized how many I had and how many I still needed to read and decided against buying the sale books. I'll just get them from my library if I decide to read them. Good job, Audible.

Swan Song was a huge disappointment for me
I bought this from the library sale shelf. Orhan's Inheritance. Sounded interesting even though I did not have it on my TBR list.

Whereas I loved Swan Song, although it did take me a long time to read it.
I loved Swan Song too. My grandson was over the moon about it. I was listening to it on audiobook when I went to visit my parents for my dad's birthday. Tyler wanted to come along and I told him, "Too bad, so sad, but you're going to have to listen to my audiobook on the way." Well, if he didn't fall in love with it even though he didn't start at the beginning. He finally acquired a paperback edition. I think it was out of print at the time. That's all he talked about for a time. Now, he's moved on to all things Riyria. He's going to be envious when he sees my autographed copy of The Death of Dulgath.Oops, I'm in danger of babbling.
Janice wrote: "I picked up two Kindle freebies this morning:Any Witch Way You Can
Every Witch Way But Wicked"
From Swan Song to witches! You needed another series? LOL!
Cherie wrote: "From Swan Song to witches! You needed another series? LOL! ..."Apparently! I guess I don't have enough of them.
They looked fun, and they were free, so no harm done if I never read them. Some day, I may need something for a challenge or a toppler.
Janice wrote: "They looked fun, and they were free, so no harm done if I never read them. Some day, I may need something for a challenge or a toppler...."Yeah, I know, really. I have three audio books that I got for the same reason last year and I haven't touched them yet.
I just picked up The Edge of Lost. It looks so good and it was on sale for $2.99. There is also a giveaway going on for it, but I seldom win anything, so I figured I'd go the safe route and just buy it. I pick up Kindle freebies all the time and figure I'll get to them eventually. It's always good to have them available for a challenge. I need to go through and make a list of all the ones I own. It would save me a lot of time searching when those challenges do come up.
*sigh*I couldn't help myself. I got The Turn of the Screw through a whispersync deal - Kindle $0.00/Audible $1.99
I bought The Distant Hours,Coastliners,
Ice Diaries: An Antarctic Memoir,
and Q are Cordially Uninvited... for my Nook.
Janice wrote: "*sigh*I couldn't help myself. I got The Turn of the Screw through a whispersync deal - Kindle $0.00/Audible $1.99"
I got it (just the kindle) a few weeks too, Janice. Short book.
