3/5 have dogs on the cover ;) but 2 of the books I purchased will fit the geocaching challenge.
This isn't a new purchase, but it's a new find - At the Crossing Places.Travis mentioned the cover of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and I wondered what edition I had. Maybe it too has a bird on it. So I went to my book case and pulled out my Harry Potter books, only they weren't the Harry Potter books. They were The Lord of the Rings. "Wait a minute! I just bought the entire set in trade paperbook, what are these doing here and where are my Harry Potter books?" You'd think that there being only 3 books would have clued me in. I looked further along the shelf and pulled out, "Arthur At The Crossing Places". I have no memory of this book and I still don't know where my Harry Potter books are, or why I thought my LoTRs books (of which I now have 2 sets) were them. I'm beginning to worry about myself. I'll blame it on divorce brain. All of the confusion came from the time I was packing and moving.
That's weird, Janice. Maybe is stress? I get specially confused and forgetful when I'm stress and/or don't getting enough sleep.
I just pre-ordered Staked. I got a message from the author in my email from Goodreads, but I cannot figure out where "personal selection" is.Anyone else get a message from Mr. Hearne?

It's funny that it's taken me this long to figure out the discrepancies. Maybe it's time to go through my book case and sort things out.

I haven't read I Am Pilgrim, but those friends of mine who have rated it at least 4 stars. It looks like a wild ride.
I picked up The Dirt on Ninth Grave. I really enjoy this series and I'm dying to know what happened to Charley. I've also decided to do a personal challenge to read 12 books published in 2016 so that I can at least be able to vote on one or two "best of the year" books. That's one book a month and January is more than half over.
I bought I Am Pilgrim a while back as I'd heard some good things about it but I haven't got around to reading it yet.
I was near a cool bookstore today and was determined to spend the book gift cards I still had. I bought The Luminaries, Rebecca, and The Way of Kings.

Are you reading The Luminaires for the geocache challenge Peggy? I am so if you fancy reading it together than we can. I know there is an old buddy read thread too.
Where does it fit in the challenge? I saw it in the bookstore and I remember many YLTO people really enjoyed it, so I bought it. But even if I'm not reading it for the challenge we can buddy read, I can read it just for fun :)
I was going to read it for New Zealand as that's where it is set. It's quite a chunkster so a buddy read will make sure I read it. I'm not in any hurry so I'm flexible when we read it.
I'm also not in a hurry. Anytime would work for me if I don't read it for a specific reason and I don't mind waiting for a while (although it would be helpful to have the date set at least a week or so in advance). Sometime in March or April maybe?
Went to a panel at the National Library yesterday with Benjamin Law and Michelle Law talking about growing up Chinese-Australian. Really interesting talking about representation of non-white Australians in the media (or lack of) and growing up in an incredibly Anglo part of Australia and having an sense of always being an other.Afterwards I bought The Family Law and Gaysia: Adventures in the Queer East and got them signed. Which is great as I have wanted them for so long. Also, The Family Law is screening now as a tv show on Aussie tv, so if you can find it online anywhere, it's really well made and worth watching.
I had to buy a new book for the February Challenge. I purchased Two Hundred and Twenty-One Baker Streets: An Anthology of Holmesian Tales Across Time and Space for my Nook from Barnes & Noble for $5.49.

I picked up A Man of His Own. I've read a few books by Susan Wilson and really enjoyed them so I hope this is a good one too! I haven't found a gripping book this year yet :)

Enjoy your books and being off the grid for a while.
Staked was released on audiobook today so I snatched it up. It's short enough to possibly fit into the Toppler! Then I can kill two birds with one stone - toppler and 2016 release.
I didn't realize Staked was released today, Janice. I'm planning to pick it up too.
I added it to my tbr yesterday but didn't realize it was released today. I have the previous two books still to read though.
I had pre-ordered it, and I just downloaded the ebook onto my Nook Tablet. Yay! Now I have to update my Orphan book list.
Just got Five Quarters of the Orange for number challenge.I asked the lady who worked there if they have the book or not and she said "No we don't have it."

I just bought Firefight which i wasn't planning on doing as it's still a little expensive. But i just received the third book Calamity through netgalley so i thought I'd better get it. Looking forward to them both.
I read Kevin Hearne's blog about Staked and his book signing tour today and discovered his book called Three Slices. It is an anthology of three short stories based on tyromancy (divining the future with cheese). The first story in the book is his, based on The Iron Druid Series (#7.5). Bought it, downloaded it and reading it now. The other two stories are by authors that I haven't read, but am willing to give them a go.Oh, by the way - he is going to be at a book signing event next week, in my neck of the woods @ Powell's Books in Beaverton. This is not the main store. That one is in Portland, but Beaverton is a 20 drive from Hillsboro, where I live.

I don't know yet, Janice. I talked about it with Amy tonight. She is not interested in going. She hasn't read the books. If I were to go early enough to get a seat, I would be ok. It is not a big place. I am not interested in getting a book signed, only in what he has to say. When Amy went to see The Princess Bride guy, the place was packed and it was so hot, she said it felt like there was not enough air to breathe. She sat on the floor inside, but she said there were people all of the way out in the hallway at the mall.
She said to me (about Kevin Hearne) "how big is he"? I laughed.

Have you read any of [author:C.L. Stone|6869072] 's other books? I've read Thief and enjoyed it from the best I remember. I've also read a few of the books in her Acadamy: Ghost Bird series. I don't know if they are really all that good, or if they are just so different that I'm drawn in.
How big is Kevin Hearne? Shame, Amy! LOL! I'd go, and I'd pick up a book (even though I have the audiobook) for his signature and treasure it. But, you have to decide for yourself if it's worth it.

I got the same email. Border was also on mine along with Assassin's Apprentice and A Symphony of Echoes which is on my geocache challenge. I'll probably get all three, but I'm holding off for a day or two before I hit that buy button.
