That's so frustrating, Janice! That happened to me once and I ended up driving to the next town and checking out their copy. Glad you were at least able to get the book.
Maybe I better get a copy on hold. My library does not have a book available. Maybe they will find your hold copy and send it down to me, Janice. LOL! I started Tricky Twenty-Two last night. I am still making my way through The Nightingale, but slowly.

Does your library do international lending? Mine says it does but I've never tried it. So far, all the books I've borrowed have come from within Alberta.
I'm monitoring the status online to see what happens after 10 days of shipping. If it goes back to "active" tomorrow, I'll be calling the library to find out what gives with their system because I've had this happen before. At least I have a copy and am reading it.
I finished Bitch Planet, Vol 1: Extraordinary Machine last night, I really like it - it's overtly feminist, and doesn't make any apologies for it. The artwork itself is a feast for the eyes, there is no detail that isn't important, and it affirms the thesis of the storyline with each little nuance. I was surprised, because I thought that Kelly Sue DeConnick's work with Captain Marvel was pretty mainstream, and well...square, and thus ultimately disappointing. The NC ladies on Bitch Planet are anything but.
I finished As Meat Loves Salt. I absolutely loved this book and gave it 5 stars. It has also gone onto my favourites shelf. Here is my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...I am now going to start The Greatest Knight for the geocaching challenge.
Finished The Girl in the Spider's Web, which was a leftover from last year's serial killer challenge. I'm now moving on, finally to Time and Again. I've been waiting on the library for that one for a few months.
Re library lending: I know my library does Intra-state lending, but not sure about International. I will check. I was listening to a book series on Overdrive until I ran out of the books they had available. I had to switch to CD and requested them from my regular library. I received the next three from states in the middle of the country and the last from Washington. They decided to buy the last CD, when it was published in 2014. There is another from 2015, but I bought the hard copy to read, just because it was at the book store when I was there.I am going to go pick up a DVD that I requested and watch The English Patient today. Need to place some new requests. :0)
I finished Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets on audiobook and have started The Blade Itself. I first read The Blade Itself in 2014. I'm about to pick up book 2 in the series and need as refresher. We're doing a buddy read, and if anyone is interested, the thread is up and running.

I had to finish up Hero of Rome after Inamorata so any happy thoughta were quickly removed. There are aome very gritty parts in that
I finished How the Marquis Got His Coat Back. Very short and it was just ok. Nearly finished with The Churn which is awesome so far. Then I'll start The Blade Itself today for the buddy read and I'll slot it in to the geocache too somewhere.
I started A Darker Shade of Magic. It is very good so far (I don't remember Who posted it as rec, but thanks!!)
Just finished my first book for the Geocaching Challenge, Hell Week. Not a super serious book at all, much like the first, but I still find the main character hilarious and endearing. Still working on The Scorch Trials. But tomorrow I will be starting The Retribution of Mara Dyer to finish up the trilogy.
It's a short month and back to a busier schedule at work, let's see if I can keep up the pace!
I will be finishing up Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl today and starting The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair that Changed America

I finished Magruder's Curiosity Cabinet this morning. I reviewed it for netgalley (I requested it because the title, cover and blurb looked so interesting) and gave it 4 stars.On the train back home tonight I'll start Moloka'i for a buddy read and the geocache challenge.
I'm reading The Fault in Our Stars. Thought it was a book club book for a local club I just joined (didn't realize it was for last February! Oops). Oh well. I am in love with this book so far! So many feels! I have seen the movie which I also loved and cried (maybe a lot). I am also reading The Devil Wears Scrubs. Oh my gosh! This book is hilarious! I picked up because it was free on Amazon for the kindle a while back. If you like the show Grey's Anatomy, you will probably get a kick out of this book!
Hoping to finish Odd Thomas and What Was Mine either today or tomorrow. What Was Mine is really interesting because as I'm thinking about it, not much has happened yet it's still good. It has super short chapters (some are only a page or two), which is great for when you only have a few minutes. I just started Between Shades of Gray. It's really good. It starts out with the MC and her family being removed from their home and just keeps up. There is no buildup to it.
I am starting Moloka'i tonight. I'm really looking forward to this one. I borrowed it from the library and the librarian told me to have tissues on hand!

Good to know about The Devil Wears Scrubs, I also picked up the kindle freebie earlier.
The movie is a total tear jerker. The people that play Augustus and Hazel have great chemistry :-) (It was weird to see them play brother and sister in Divergent, lol! ).
Do you watch the show Grey's Anatomy, Camilla? There is a character named Penny since this last season, and I can't help but picture her as the main character in Devil Wears Scrubs.

I think we're a bit behind the US in what they are showing here, as we have watched all episodes shown here, but I can't recall Penny. It's one of the very few series I bother watching anymore.

I finished book three of the Kricket series, Darken the Stars, on Monday. Since then, I've been struggling with this feeling:
I really enjoyed the series, but that ending left me wanting more. I don't think Kricket's story was finished and neither was a couple of other character's. Even though the ending sort of fit, there were just way too many loose ends for me. If the author/publisher decide on another book, I will most definitely be reading it.
Now I have started on Inamorata thanks to Travis's great review.

Finished The Fault in Our Stars. I started it yesterday and finished it tonight. I have it 5 stars because of the characters. I love these characters and my heart hurts for them and now I'm going to go and have a good cry :*(
I finished The Sherlockian and really enjoyed it, and as a result I've added more books to my TBR based on recommendations in the discussion thread! Geesh!Now I'm reading the sequel to the hilarious The Rosie Project: The Rosie Effect. Both books are LOL funny. I'm enjoying a light, funny read for a change. If you want something unique, heartwarming, and plain fun, these are the books for you!
P.S. This is NOT chick lit, for the guys in our group, Travis!
I'm reading Bitter Lemons for the geocaching challenge - not getting into it as much as I thought I would...but at least I'm covering a new country in Cyprus!
I finished Green Grass, Running Water for my Geocache challenge. It was unique to say the least a bit hard to follow until I understood what was going on.Next up is Four Past Midnight for the monthly challenge.
I finished Haunted Edinburgh which I rated 3 stars, although my actual rating is 3.5. It was quite enjoyable finding out about the spookier, darker side of Edinburgh's history. I have put The Greatest Knight to one side for the time being. I started it the other day for the geocaching challenge but I just wasn't feeling it at all so I am going to read a few other books first and then come back to it in a month or so.
I am now going to start Uprooted for February's 'One Word Title' theme.
I started reading a short story Classic! I know, I know. I hate classics. But this one is really good so far. It's The Scarlet Plague by Jack London. I got it free through netgalley so i need to review it. I've not read anything from this author before. It's hard to believe it was written over 100 years ago. It feels very modern. The edition i have is accompanied by illustrations.I also started listening to number9dream hopefully for the monthly number challenge. Another David Mitchell book. It's set in Japan and it's a little confusing the way it's told. I think I'd fare better with a print book. But i do like the style of writing.
Still reading The Blade Itself for the buddy read and geocache chhallenge.
I'm on to slow on all of these at the moment for some reason.

I finished A Darker Shade of Magic. It was very good, but the plot has found all resolution in the last 1/5 of the book. A little too "deus ex machina" to me... (no cliffhangers, though, and for that I'm grateful)
I'm over half way Rusalka and I'm liking it. It's a quick read. I'll let you know my final verdict when I'm done.

That's surprising since there's a sequel. I'm still waiting for my library hold to come back in - I only made it halfway through when the first one expired. I guess I liked it, but not enough to buy right away.

Yes, there is one A Gathering of Shadows, but the first one got the story wrapped to an end (no lose ends). You could stop reading there, according to my opinion.
I think It wasn't mean to be a serie (not right away, anyway), but the author and editors wanted to "test the waters" first (I hate when they do that: the book must be planed as trilogy, or whatever, and not try to "stretch" an sucess til it got to thin, that is almost insubstantial, and nobody cares about it anymore
I hate those forced sequels too. There's a deeply cynical side of me that always thinks it's a cash grab.

I went to the library and signed out their copy. When I first put the book on hold, the local copy was checked out. I've already started it.
I also finished The Wicked Girls. While I gave the story 4 stars, I gave the narration 2 stars. I think I'll reread this another time - in print.
I started Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets on audiobook. I feel relieved to have new books on the go.
