What Are You Reading? 2016.1

Oh. Sorry Sandra, you didn't enjoy your book much

I am now starting The Little Stranger for the monthly challenge.

I am going to read Before I Go to Sleep for the monthly challenge instead. I'm not entirely sure it will fit but fingers crossed.

Oh no! I love reincarnation stuff and this is on my summer reading list! I'm still going to give it a try but I'm disappointed to hear you didn't like it so much. :(

The Little Stranger was my first Sarah Waters books and while I really enjoyed it I think the ones that followed I enjoyed more. I did really love TLS though!

I'm wondering if I would have enjoyed it more if I had read it first. I was really looking forward to reading it so I'm a bit disappointed that I didn't like it. Which is your favourite book of hers? Mine is Fingersmith.

Give it a try, Tasha. I've seen many people loved it. The main problem for me was that in my mind this book something absolutely different from what it actually was. I don't know why. Maybe I didn't read the blurb, or I'm mixing it with another book.
As I said the writing is average, and it is not a mystery, even some people says it is. Do not expect a mystery, so you won't be disappointed. But if you like reincarnation stuff, then you will probably enjoy it, since it is the main, and nearly only, them. She brings many issues related with the topic.

Next up on audiobook is The Death of Dulgath. I hope I can finish it before the toppler begins.

I loved Affinity too. It's my second favourite after Fingersmith. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed The Paying Guests. I think that is the one I will pick up next. I also need to read The Night Watch. I have loved all of her books so far apart from The Little Stranger.

I also started Destined for an Early Grave. It should be a quick enough read that I can finish it before the toppler starts.

It is so cute! Josh, the MC, is forced to take in his neighbor's dog while he supposedly has to go on a last minute trip, and the neighbor doesn't realize the dog is pregnant. I'm shaking my head at this point. The story gets sad but starts to lift up after a bit.

I thought the story line sounds interesting. If I come across a copy, I will probably read it, but not go out of my way to buy it.

maybe this one?

I'm bored! But I don't want to start a book for half an hour now when I have to put it away for a week after.

I'm listening to

I'm bored! But I don't want to start a book for half an hour no..."
Peggy, I found it quite boring and unfortunately, I guessed the main 'twist' when I was less than 25% of the way through. That took all the suspense out of it for me. I really wanted to like it but it just wasn't for me.

I am not tempted to read them, exactly, but I love the names of some of the titles. :)

I am selecting my books on the basis of size. My RA makess the bigger books too hard to read.
I MISS MY KINDLE. The all caps was a mistake that I decided to leave because it really says what I mean. Kindle is great when you have arthritis. Not so good when you leave it at a Starbucks

Oh! Sorry to hear that Renee. I know I would be devastated if I lose mine...

Were you able to finish it? I see your tweet that says you were trying to get it done before the toppler. I'd do the Instagram thing too, but it's hard to take a pretty picture of an audiobook download.

Only instagram with the books as it breaks up the chickens ;)

Are you enjoying it Gavin - I have not read that one but

The action takes place in and around an Amish/Mennonite community in Ohio. The main characters are a woman police chief and the man she lives with who is also a policeman. The author writes well and draws the reader in with credible action, deft dialogue and suspense.

Cherie, I just listened to that as an audio book - I enjoyed it and the development of Miss Marple's character. I had a hard time keeping the characters straight however.

I am on chapter 10, page 85 of my 192 page old paperback book and Miss Marple has really only been in one scene so far. A little over 100 pages to go, so I hope there is more from her. Inspector Slack, Colonel Melchett, and Superintendant Harper are doing all of the interviews and having all of the action so far. Absolutely no one likeable that I can see.
There is a large cast of characters, as Joan says, and it is really hard to keep up with who they are. At least there is a Cast of Characters list at the beginning of the book that I can refer to.
I had a good laugh a couple of pages back when Christie shamelessly plugged herself along with Dorothy Sayers, Dickson Carr and H. C. Baily as writers of detective stories. I am going to have to look them up and see if I have read any of their books. The only name I recognized was Sayers.

Joan - I'm probably too late but the China Bayles series is set in Texas and she has an herb shop next to a tea room. Perhaps that's the one you were looking for? https://www.goodreads.com/series/4094...
