Sarah | 18550 comments I'm trying to get The Fireman read by the 6th for the buddy read of The City of Mirrors. It's quite a quick read despite its length. I'm already a third in and i only started it yesterday so I'm hopeful. It's SO good.

Kristie | 19226 comments That's great to hear, Sarah. I really want to read that one, but will have to put it off until at least July due to other reads. I over obligated myself and now I need to play catch up before I can relax with whatever I'm in the mood for.

Yes! Had the exact same thought when I picked up Black Swan Green earlier this year.

Jackie | 57 comments I'm reading Kommandant's Girl by Pam Jenoff.

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I finished The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender for this month's group read. I really enjoyed it but I did have a few problems with it so I rated it 4 stars.

message 1057: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60012 comments I'm headed out on the highway for a mountain getaway this weekend. I have 4 hours left on Freedom of the Mask. When it's done, The Fireman is loaded on my iPad and ready to go. It's 22 hours long so it's doubtful The Death of Dulgath will get started.

I will finish The Rainbow and the Rose while I'm gone and then will likely start either The Silence of the Lambs or Lost in Translation . I'm taking my trade paperback, The Illegal "just in case".

As usual, I'm over-anticipating what I can possibly read on a 4 day weekend.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I'm still waiting for the paperback of The Death of Dulgath to come out. I also really want to read Age of Myth but I really prefer paperbacks over hardcovers so I'm not sure whether I should just go for the hardcover so that I can read it now, or wait for 9 months or so for the paperback to come out..

I'm going to start The Way of Kings, Part 2. It does not fit my June planning at all, but I just really want to read it.

I've got the trade paperback (signed), ebook, and audiobook. It may be a bit of overkill, but I got involved in the Kickstart campaign. All I really wanted was the audiobook, but I also didn't want to wait years for the book to be published. Michael Sullivan self published this one in order to avoid delays that would have been imposed by his publisher if he'd gone with them.

Sarah | 18550 comments Looking forward to hearing what you think Janice of The Fireman. I'm halfway through now and loving it.

I wanted to do that too, for the paperback, but then shipping to the Netherlands was $70. I can order the paperback from his website too, same shipping. Which is a bit weird, because I have received books from the US many times and shipping is not that high.

I'm considering getting the ebook from his website and then buy the paperback when it's out.

message 1065: by Renee (new)

Renee (elenarenee) | 1650 comments Well I have just finished Everybody's Fool. It was amazing. I am having one of my Lupus flares and am just exhausted right nos. So I am listening to Ashley Bell. I am putting off City of Mirrors until the buddy read. I am attempting to read Scarlet Pimpernel but I keep falling asleep. I wish Red Bull coud give me wings. LOL

Sandra (sanlema) | 11289 comments I finished I Let You Go yesterday. I gave it 4 stars, but it's actually a 3.5 stars. It's a book I can clearly envision dividing the waters, half of the readers absolutely loving it, and the other half asking why it is so overrated. IMO the plot is engaging, the writing is good (not memorable, though), all the characters lack deep, but one of the characters is excellently portrayed, and being in his head is pretty disturbing. Can't say more without giving away details. That makes a 3.5 stars on average to me, and I rounded it up because it was really a page turner. I also disliked the tittle, since it makes the book look like a romance, and it is not. The fact that it is a debut novel makes this one a promising author to me.

I started Soar an ARC middle grade novel. And I'm also ready to start this afternoon The Forgetting Time

.

I am enjoying Ashley Bell. It is not as good as some of Koontz other books. It has the feel of his Odd Tomas books. I can't quite figure what is making it only a good read not a great. It could be I love Odd Tomas. I haven't warmed to Bibi. She is an interesting char but I want Odd

message 1070: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60012 comments I finished both Freedom of the Mask and The Rainbow and the Rose.

I was broken hearted that freedom of the mask ends on a cliff hanger. I can't find any mention of the next book. Book 5 of the series ended on one, and now book 6. It seems weird since all the prior books could easily have been stand-alones.

I have started The Fireman and The Silence of the Lambs. Silence is for my challenge read.

This one is on my summer list for another group so I really enjoyed reading your thoughts on this one. I'm curious to see which side I fall on after I'm done. :)

That's good. I guess you have to forget about Odd and Koontz's other books when going in to it then. I like Odd too. It does sound interesting. I see it's the first of a new series. Just noticed i mistyped your name in my previous post - sorry about that.

I wasn't sure if it was going to be my kind of book but I loved it. I gave it 5 stars and I will definitely be reading the sequel.

Sure I'll let you know how I like Forbidden!

Janice (jamasc) | 60012 comments I finished The Fireman, another 5 star read! What a tense and wild ride.

Next up is Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. I'm going from one phoenix (in The Fireman) to another.

message 1085: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19226 comments Janice - Did you listen to the audio of The Fireman? I'm seriously considering it, but I'm not sure if I want to go with the physical book or the audio. I plan to read it at some point either way.

message 1086: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60012 comments I listened to it. Kate Mulgrew does a great job.

Ohhhh, I may just have to get the audio book. I have the book from the library. I just haven't been able to trad it. I am still having a lot of fatigue.

I love Mulgrew. She was on a soap opera I watched, Next she was on Star Trek,Now she is in Orange is the New black. I just love her. (Sorry for going all fangirl)

message 1091: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60012 comments LOL! That's okay, Renee. I'm a fan too. I have her audiobook, Born with Teeth in my audible library. I hope I can get to it soon.

message 1092: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I finished reading The Fireman which was awesome. 5 stars for me. Now on to The City of Mirrors for the buddy read and to complete a series.

message 1093: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19226 comments Another 5 star for The Fireman! Everyone seems to love that book! I'm definitely going to have to pick it up.

message 1094: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I'm unsure whether or not to try The Fireman. I have heard nothing but good things about it but I was quite disappointed with Heart-Shaped Box and I haven't really been tempted by any of his books since then. This one does sound good though...

message 1095: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments What didn't you like about heart shaped box Lisa? That might help us advise you whether you might like The Fireman or not.

message 1096: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments Sarah wrote: "What didn't you like about heart shaped box Lisa? That might help us advise you whether you might like The Fireman or not."

I didn't really like the pacing, it started off well but I felt that it dragged in the middle section to the extent where I was having to force myself to keep reading. Also, I didn't think it was scary at all. I had heard it was but it didn't do anything for me on that front. I quite liked the writing style, although not to the extent that I like Stephen King's. I didn't hate it by any means, I gave it 3 stars (albeit a low 3 stars) but it just left me a bit cold.

message 1097: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments The pace in The Fireman is quite consistent I think. I didn't think there was a lull. It's not scary but it's not supposed to be.

That sounds fairly promising. I will add it to my wishlist. Thanks, Sarah.
