Stephanie Haha, Cherie :) the reviews are positive so I added to my TBR :)

Oh my! What kind of recommendation is that?? lol

message 603: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60012 comments Hahaha! That's a good one Cherie. :)

You've marked it "to read".

message 604: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I finished The Girl in the Photograph for this month's group read. I gave it 3 stars because it was good but not great.

I am now starting The Crown Tower for the geocaching challenge. I am really looking forward to this as I love Hadrian and Royce.

message 605: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60012 comments I finished His Majesty's Dragon. It was almost a 5 star read. I kind of found myself drifting from time to time which kept it at 4 stars. However, I really enjoyed it. I'm quite smitten with Tremeraire.

Next up is Last Argument of Kings for no particular reason except that I want to finish the trilogy. It's a chunkster - 29 hours long! Yikes.

message 606: by Tasha (new)

Tasha Aw, that's a bit of a disappointment, Lisa, although I know it's not a big rater on GRs. I still plan on reading it for this month though.

message 607: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Too bad Lisa. Luckily you can count on Royce and Hadrian to be 5 stars!

I will look forward to hearing what you think of it, Tasha. I really liked the first half but the second half, not so much. I just felt it became quite predictable.

Hehe, I know. I have only read a couple of chapters so far and I can already tell it's going to be a good one!

Try the motion picture, the old english version with R. Barton

Me neither!!!

message 612: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60012 comments I finished Church of Marvels. I'm not sure why more people aren't reading it for the group reads, but I certainly recommend it.

Next up... I can't decide between Night Has a Thousand Eyes and The Passage. The first is for Sai King Recommends group read, but so far, nobody is reading/discussing it and I don't want to discuss alone. The other is in preparation for a buddy read of the second book in the series.

message 613: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I'm still waiting on Church of Marvels from the library. I've reserved it but it has to be sent in as there are no copies available nearby. It's still expensive to buy being new which is why I'm going down the library route. Not many people are discussing either book so far. Perhaps there'll be a mad rush at the end! I'm not bothering with the sai king read, it doesn't appeal to me (classic/never heard of before/not available at the library).

I'm really enjoying my current read. I noticed you gave it 5 stars Janice. Did you continue with the series? My version is called Mercy but it's also calledThe Keeper of Lost Causes.

message 614: by Kristie, Moderator (last edited Mar 13, 2016 08:58AM) (new)

Kristie | 19224 comments Janice - I say read The Passage first, then you'll be prepared for your buddy read. Then, if other people start discussing Night Has a Thousand Eyes, you can read it and join the discussion and if none else discusses so be it. :) Of course, I liked The Passage and haven't read the other, so I'm biased.

message 615: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I'm reading Flawless: Inside the Largest Diamond Heist in History for Peggy's monthly challenge and it's really interesting so far.

I'm listening to The Girl on the Train which is really good, great audio production as well.

I'll be starting Elizabeth Is Missing for another group's monthly read.

message 616: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I'm reading Night Road for the monthly challenge. It's so-so. It's a quick read but too much young adult and high school romancy troubles and one of the characters really annoys me, but I hope it will lose some of the YA and romance when it progresses.

I think that's likely the case for a few people. I had already purchased it a while back. I don't recall if it was an iBook/Kindle deal of the day or not. I hope you get your copy soon. It's quite the read!

I'm really enjoying my current read. I noticed you gave it 5 stars Janice. Did you continue with the series? My version is called Mercy but it's also called The Keeper of Lost Causes.

I read the first two books in the series and I keep intending to get back to it. I got a bit distracted from the series, just like I do with so many of them. *sigh* I really like Scandinavian mysteries. They are so dark and gritty.

Thanks Kristie. Between you and Sarah, you've helped me make up my mind. The Passage it is.

I'm just feeling a bit discouraged lately because I've "participated" in a string of buddy reads and group reads, (mostly in other groups) where I feel like I'm the only participant. It gets tired fast. I love it when there's lots of comments, discussion, and opinions. I hate talking to myself.

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I planned to read the book for Sai King Janice but I don't know that I'll even get to it now. Still working through my backlog you know

Do you have to read so many books from your backlog before you get your credit card back?

message 622: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19224 comments I completely understand that, Janice. It isn't much of a discussion, if no one really participates. The Twelve should be a good book for discussion.

message 623: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I know what you mean about discussing on your own Janice. Very frustrating. Don't forget to check out the buddy read thread for The Passage, I know i jabbered on about it enough ;-)

Good to hear you liked book 1 in the series I'm reading enough to move on to book 2. This is one series i feel I'll be continuing with.

Like all of them. Except what I get with last 4 credits. Only 130+ to go.

message 625: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19224 comments Yikes... Good luck, Travis.

message 626: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I have finished a few I started in November. Working on one I had to have started at least a year ago. Had to begin again on that one. Just tying up loose ends at the moment. These are just audios too. I have maybe 5 print books that have been started for months to finish. Then probably 20 print books I haven't opened and kindle. Hmm. Havent used that in close to 2 years. Must be 200 unread on that. Luckily I only have to get through the audios

message 627: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Oddly not having new books or plannin to buy new ones I find myself very calm amd focused getting through these books now. I got imoatient to move on and set them down before. Now I can just get it done without the new releases or new purchases saying psst I'm new and shiny read me read me

That makes a lot of sense. I get very distracted looking for books for challenges and wanting shiny new books too. I have a bunch that I haven't read, partly because I either forget I own them or figure they'll still be there when I'm ready to read them. If I knew I had to read the ones I own first, it would free up a lot of reading time.

message 629: by Joan (new)

Joan What do you do with your books after you have read them?

message 630: by Roz (last edited Mar 13, 2016 02:43PM) (new)

Roz | 4544 comments I'm getting very distracted in my reading lately. I have multiple books started: The Gift of Rain, The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie, A Thread of Grace, The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake, The Absent One (picked it up today). I like them all, so far, but I just keep bouncing around. Some are print versions, some are on my kindle so depending on where I am or time of day I always have something to go to. Once I finish these, I need to limit myself to one at a time.
The problem is that so many books look /sound good and I can't resist them. I don't want to wait to start them and then I end up with so many started and nothing finished.
As far as buddy / group reads go, there are so many I want to participate in, I even start the books, but then I get distracted again. Wow, I sound like a toddler with a short attention span.

message 631: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Almpst all my books are digital. I only have a small bookshelf of orint books whih I buy because I like the cover or some reason. I gave the rest away

I can relate to that. Not to the calmness, but to the impatience of finishing something.

message 634: by Joan (new)

Joan Do you use digital books for reading to your kids. Are the days of "Pat The Bunny" past?

message 635: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments We never had any Pat the Bunny books here. At least for us kids have to have real books. I have done a couple audiobooks with my son who is 5 but it is a struggle for him to focus. Kids like to see the illustrations and point and touch the book and flip the pages. In my experience anyway. Problem is if you sit down to read them a book they will jist bring one after another and you have to say no more books today or they'll keep you there for hours until your voice is gone. Which isn't really a complaint. I was dumbfounded when I accidentally ordered two copies of Where the Sidewalk Ends: The Poems and Drawings of Shel Silverstein so I had a friend who has kids about same age as mine at my house ao I said you read books to your kids. No we have lots of books but we don't read them. I gave him the extra copy anyway like go read this to your children.

message 636: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11288 comments The only electronic copies I use with my kids are the copies I get from NetGalley. Other than that, they only read hard copies.

message 637: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19224 comments I always read physical books to my children. When my grandson was born (He'll be 7 this year.) I bought him a bunch of books for his house and for mine. I always read him physical books, not electronic ones. As with Sandra, I think the only time I read electronic books with him is for NetGalleys.

message 638: by Tasha (new)

Tasha My daughter prefers real books although she does have a kindle with a few books on it. She likes going to the library and getting out tons of books which she then sorts at home...she may read a little here and there...

message 639: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I finished The Crown Tower for the geocaching challenge. I loved it! Hadrian and Royce are such great characters and it was good to be back in their company again :)

I am now starting a chunkster, When Christ and His Saints Slept, for a buddy read with Sarah.

message 640: by Joan (new)

Joan very true Travis, it also amazes me that my 3 year-old grandson will ask for the same story several nights in row.

message 642: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I have just noticed that When Christ and His Saints Slept will fit the 'Tower of London' task in the geocaching challenge so I have slotted it in. Yay!

message 643: by Mariab (new)

Mariab | 3059 comments I'm reading The Golem and the Jinni for the Geo- Ch

message 644: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I hope you love it, Mariab! Where are you going to use it?

message 645: by Mariab (new)

Mariab | 3059 comments I have two possibilities. One is Fantasy Book for N Zealand.

I like it already

Do check out the buddy read thread for this one. We had some good discussions from what I remember. Good to hear you are liking it.

message 647: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments I just finished Thirteen Moons on audio yesterday, narrated by Will Patton. It was a really great fiction story about life during the 1800's America. A big focus of the book was about the relocation of American Indians. Even though the people and tribes that were in the book were fictional, I felt it was a well researched piece that accurately depicted life in those times. I highly recommend.

message 648: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I finished Church of Marvels which was great. Still 12 days left this month and I have finished everything I 'have' to read, so my next book I can choose from among all the paper and ebooks I own. No easy task! Maybe I'll go for some fantasy and read the 6th Iron Druid book.

message 649: by Joan (new)

Joan KimmyDiann, thanks Thirteen Moons sounds interesting.
