SOLVED. Two teen boys in the wilderness with only a knife [s]

I read this one years ago. I seem to remember that the main characters were two teen boys who considered themselves wilderness experts and were convinced that they could survive like "the old timers did". One of their fathers challenged them to do so....to head into the wilderness with only a knife and the clothes on their backs and survive there. (maybe for a month? That rings a bell) I remember that they did fairly well, but the climax of the story had them trapped in a flood, or something along those lines and possibly being stalked by a mountain lion?
