Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments Not everyone may be aware, but KC has some unused chapters/deleted scenes available to read on her web site. Currently, there's one chapter from Death's Mistress and two from Hunt the Moon, as well as some fun stuff between Claire & Dory. You can read them here:

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments So does anyone fancy an organised read of these? We could do the Death's Mistress chapter one week and the Hunt the Moon chapters another week, or whatever anyone thinks best?

I know I've read these before but I can't even remember what happens, and I'm not peeking until I do a proper reread!

message 3: by Kathleen (new)

Kathleen Gresham (kathleengresham) | 2637 comments I particularly treasure the lost chapters from HtM, but I can never remember what's in the one from DM either.

A group read sounds like fun.

Kathleen Gresham (kathleengresham) | 2637 comments Thanks for creating this thread!

message 5: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments No problem! :)

We'll give it a few days and see if anyone else is interested, then we can get something set up. It's not exactly a huge commitment to read a chapter or two!

message 6: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments I'd happily discuss the lost chapters.

Duca (sapphireofslytherin) | 468 comments *sighs with relief* thanks for making this thread, I've needed some kind of group activity with you guys for the past few weeks!
I already remember well what happens in the HTM missing chapters *waggles eyebrows*

message 8: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments Hehe, you've got me curious, Duca! I know I've read them but my mind is a complete blank right now. Maybe it'll come back to me when I start to reread.

How does everyone want to do it? We could read the Hunt the Moon chapters this weekend, and the Death's Mistress chapter the weekend after. Or should we spread it out a bit and do it over three weekends, with one chapter each week?

Any and all thoughts and ideas are welcome. :)

message 9: by Kathleen (new)

Kathleen Gresham (kathleengresham) | 2637 comments However you want. I'll just be glad that the are being discussed, and that we have a place to discuss then!

message 10: by Duca (new)

Duca (sapphireofslytherin) | 468 comments I think it might be easier if the chapters weren't separated by a week, certain facts are fresher in the mind if read consecutively. We could always reread Family Affair and Shadowland after that. When's the last time we read those :D?

I periodically reread those lost HtM chapters when I miss Pritkin :p

message 12: by Kathleen (new)

Kathleen Gresham (kathleengresham) | 2637 comments I just reread all three chapters. It didn't take long.

Wonderful stuff!

I presume when you're saying not to separate the chapters, you're meaning the two Hunt the Moon chapters, right?

How about we discuss Hunt the Moon chapters this weekend then? We can do the Death's Mistress chapter next weekend (3/4 May).

Does this sound good to everyone?

I think we did a reread of the short stories early last year, but we could certainly reread them next month. Good idea! :)

Duca (sapphireofslytherin) | 468 comments Yay! Sounds like a plan Batman!

Kathleen Gresham (kathleengresham) | 2637 comments Ppsssssttt. Hey, kid. Reading these lost chapters juuuuusst might provide a hint to solve the current Things They Would Never Say puzzle.

message 17: by Duca (new)

Duca (sapphireofslytherin) | 468 comments Oops am I the only one that forgot to reread last weekend? I could totally still have time to reread before this coming weekend...

message 18: by Kathleen (new)

Kathleen Gresham (kathleengresham) | 2637 comments It kind of looked like everyone got too busy or forgot.

I'll be here, and thrilled to discuss them whenever anyone is ready.

message 19: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments Oops I forgot too! It was a crazy weekend. I'll try to read them tonight. I should have time hopefully.

I'm up for a re-read too if I can still make it!

message 24: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments So I finally got round to reading the two Hunt the Moon chapters. So here's a few random thoughts ...

Quote from Jules ...
Because of a foolish, willful little girl who doesn’t know enough to be grateful for what she has! Do you know how many women would kill to be in your position? You live in a penthouse! You’re waited on hand and foot! You have a generous allowance ... and all you’re asked to do in return is to follow a few simple rules for your own damn good! But oh, no.
Man, that quote made me really angry! I understand Jules is upset and frustrated at the attacks, but what a way to talk to Cassie! And he admits later that he tends to blurt out what he's thinking, so I'm pretty sure he's speaking his true opinion, rather than trying to goad Cassie. And I wonder if he's simply saying what a lot of Mircea's vamps think.

However, Cassie takes no shit ...
Even if I had no connection to any court at all, I would still outrank you. Because I’m Pythia. I probably won’t be for long at the rate things are going, but until somebody or something drowns me or puts a bullet through my brain or freaking eats me, as far as the supernatural community is concerned, I outrank you. I outrank Marco. I outrank everyone except the goddamn Senate, and that’s debatable. And I kinda doubt you’d have just spoken to a senator that way!
Go Cassie!

Also, I thought this quote was interesting...
“And I’ve served as his second—”
Jules blanched.
“And for all I know, I might still be his second. He never said whether he bothered to rescind it after that particular emergency was over.”
I wish we knew if Cassie was still officially Mircea's 'second'. Even if she were, I think that'll change as Mircea would surely choose Dory now that she's a senator.

Oh! I just had a thought! Maybe Cassie IS still Mircea's second, and she was officially summoned to the Consul's house in Fury's Kiss because Mircea was incapacitated. Maybe she didn't go there primarily because she was worried about Mircea (though I don't doubt she would be concerned) but perhaps she had to go as Acting Head of the family?

Finally, I thought this quote was sweet...
“You—you’re trying to preserve my standing?” he asked.
“I’m trying to preserve mine. It’s not going to help my reputation if anybody knows I let you off the hook.”
It shows - yet again - that Mircea is a fool for overlooking Cassie's knowledge of vamp society. This quote sums up exactly how well Cassie understands their world.

Finally, finally, I laughed at all the food comments in the two chapters. Between 'fried pies' and McDonalds and green salads, I was feeling hungry by the time I finished LOL!

Cameo | 1046 comments Mod
That's one of the many things I love about Cassie, you can relate! Granted I don't deal with magic and dragons and whatnot - but the feeling of something snapping when you've had enough and just starts yelling :p

And you're so right Lanni, Mircea constantly underestimates Cassies upbringing. Weird considering he was the one who put her in that particular childhood.

Ohh it could be very interesting if Cassie was still his second, 'cause then technically Dory would outrank her being a senatemember and all, regarding vamp business, but Cassie would of course still outrank her as Pythia in other businesses.

Frankly fried pies sounds disgusting XD

message 26: by Kathleen (new)

Kathleen Gresham (kathleengresham) | 2637 comments If Cassie was summoned to Mircea's bedside as his second, that is interesting.

And he is in sooooo much trouble. How do you suppose Cassie will feel about shifting his DAUGHTER to a cow pasture because he didn't tell Cassie he HAD a daughter.

Mircea deserves all the grief that Cassie and Dory *combined* can give him. And he *so* deserves for them to gang up on him.

message 27: by Kathleen (new)

Kathleen Gresham (kathleengresham) | 2637 comments Lannister, oh yeah, I think what Jules said is exactly what he and the other vamp bodyguards think. Marco has said basically the same in a kinder way.

message 28: by Cameo (new)

Cameo | 1046 comments Mod
oh yeah, about Cassie bring Australia.. when she had the breakdown in the bathroom right?

mwahahahahahaha welcome to the right side, Mirceashippers!

message 29: by Kathleen (new)

Kathleen Gresham (kathleengresham) | 2637 comments I think this chapter where Cassie tells off Jules is SO important and illuminating that it is a shame it was scrapped. Some of TtS would make much less sense without it. And I get the sense that lots of people are missing, for example, Cassie's relationship with Jules because of not reading this chapter.

message 30: by Kathleen (new)

Kathleen Gresham (kathleengresham) | 2637 comments After reading the HtM outtakes, you can easily solve the current Things They Would Never Say quote. Would someone *please* do it, so that thread can move on? Please?

message 31: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments I agree that it's exactly what Jules was thinking, and it's what Mircea's other vampires think. None of them respect her authority as Pythia, because Mircea does not respect her authority as Pythia and they take their cues from their master.

message 32: by Cameo (new)

Cameo | 1046 comments Mod
once again the blame falls on mircea. scheming bastard why can't he just behave himself?

message 33: by Kathleen (new)

Kathleen Gresham (kathleengresham) | 2637 comments One of the things I love about Pritkin is that he does respect her. Notice in the Pritkin POV stories how he refers to her in his mind (even when exasperated) as a woman, not a girl, and never a child.

message 34: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments Pritkin understands the idea of people looking down on him because of his heritage, so he's not going to do it to someone else.

message 35: by Lia (new)

Lia | 222 comments Can I just clarify- Pritkin kissing her wasn't anything to do with power exchange or anything, right? It was just simply his joy at being alive? And Cassie is forced to think about how it "opened up a whole world of complicated [she'd] successfully ignored until now".

This kiss was about their feelings, not anything else, and it's a real shame that it couldn't be included in the final HtM. [Not that I'm complaining, because we got the back-seat scene instead, and wowza. Plus it makes way more sense for the plot to progress how it did.] But I would have wondered what progress would have been like had Pritkin and Cassie started to confront their feelings [properly] in this book.

It also reminds me that Cassie has alluded to the fact they have feelings for eachother, and that these feelings are strong enough to be troublesome throughout the last few books. She knows , so the trouble she goes to to avoid the truth in the second half of Tempt the Stars when he demands to know why she "needs him", is just silly.

I hope losing him scares her enough to prompt her to grab on, and hold on, when he gets back.

What I do appreciate however, is while Jules disrespects her, when she asks he be removed Rico doesn't bat an eyelid. They're making some progress, and if she stands still long enough in the next book hopefully higher ups will start recognising her power.

message 36: by Kathleen (new)

Kathleen Gresham (kathleengresham) | 2637 comments Cassie has suppressed years of terror& loss. She functions & is compassionate. To her love causes loss & pain.

Fun with Mircea is easy. The rockstar of vamps.

Love w P would is real, scary. He could die.

Mircea is possessive, vindictive, deaf to her wishes. All vamps fear him.

Cassie has been terrified M would maim or kill P if she got too close.

War effort & vamp alliance are paramount. Now the have alliance.

Maybe reality of Pritkin's freedom will wake her?

She has to stand up to M and break up. I hope she can.

Rico is always cool.
