Chit Chat 2016

My resolutions this year are to read more, try to do more things to make myself happy (which I often don't really focus on), attempt more random acts of kindness, and to keep in better touch with my friends who are far away which I'm also not very good at. In particular I'd like to plan a trip to meet my pen pal who I've been writing to and now emailing since I was 15 and never met. I live in New York and she lives in Texas.
What about you?
What about you?

Sorry for the randomness.
Barbara poor you!!! So much dental misery!!! Hopefully you will be done with all of it soon. Get in you're cozy bed and read or watch a movie then eat some ice cream once you can feel your face!!!

It kinda is misery now but it'll be worth it in the end now that I have a dentist who is actually nice and wants to do their job. They're very sweet there. I had to walk up to the office and it was freezing out. I mean that in the literal sense because it was about 25°F plus it was very windy. By the time I got in the office I was shivering and wheezing slightly because of a leftover cold. The receptionist made me a cup of tea and let me finish my tea and warm up before they called me back.
Aww that's nice! I have a good dentist too. I'm terrified of the dentist so I get a Valium and gas even for a cleaning. The hygienist does a hand scale because I freak out with the sound of the power thingy. I went there originally because I was getting veneers and freaking out and she was one of those dentists who will knock you out but when I went I was so nervous and hyped up that the drugs didn't work and I stayed awake! She was like I gave you the same dose as the 6 foot 200 pound guy before you and he needed to be taken out with a wheelchair why aren't you even tired?!? I'm glad your dentist is good to you. Are you almost done with your dental work?
Sorry everyone. My father in law just died last night. I'm kinda trying to cheer my husband up and keep up the spirits. It's been a tough few weeks.
I'm so sorry Leela. Please let me know if there's anything you need. Don't worry about the group! Give my condolences to your husband and family.
Thank you. <3 I'm feeling a bit better after a full night's sleep. I feel like I can function. I appreciate this group so much. Even though I didn't say anything until randomly I popped it up, this group has help hold me together by just being nice and teaching me and giving me someone to talk to regardless what what it's about. So I really thank you. You all have got me through a lot and you all didn't even know it. <3

I also want to read more, take care more of myself so my health and well-being are better and to be more spontaneous. I've some to do lists which include things which are important for my education and so I have more fun :D

You can do it. <3 Those are good resolutions to have.

Oh, thank you, Leela. That means much to me that you say this. I weren't sure if these are real resolutions or not. But I really want to try them the whole year :)

If they are important to you then they are real. Lol. And I hope you can accomplish them for the whole year. :) I started two resolution that I have a feeling I won't stick to. (I have more, but these two are destined to fail...)
1.) Write in a journal for a whole year.
2.) Don't stress.
I wanted to write in a journal to help me not stress out and I wanted not to stress out because my mom pretty much told me I stress over nothing and it ruins my sleep and my health. Lol. I am a worrywart. But... I think I'm going to keep stress because it's in my nature to. XP

Leela I totatally understand, I am a worrywart by nature and have tried many things to lessen the stress. Somethings are just habbit and like any habbit can be replaced by another habbit over time. Some amount of stress is unavoidable, but it is how we react and deal with it that makes a world of difference. I still have my moments where I let stress overwhelm me, but at least they are not as bad as they use to be and don't last that long because I have learned to catch it before it goes on overload.
Writing in Journals does help- if you can remember to write in them. I am horrible at this, I start journals stay with them for a short bit and stop. The only time I have ever been really good at keeping a journal was when it was homework for school, lol. So I can relate on that matter, but keep trying even random journallng can help.
One thing I do for my stress is that I pray- a lot. This could also be meditating. It just really helps me to center myself and give my stress over to God, I pray everymorning, throughout the day as needed, and before I go to sleep. It does not have to be long or said out loud. Just a few minutes of praise, being grateful (even in the hard times) and asking for help. Praying for others is also really good as it is sending positive thoughts to someone else and getting the focus off of yourself. :)
Music is another big stress relieve, positive music affects our thoughts, A good book helps too, and a nice walk, watch an uplifting show. All of these are tools to help. Even taking a moment to vent to a friend or in a journal really is great because sometimes we just need to let the steam out.
One saying a very good friend of mine who passed away a few years ago, always said:
"You can't prevent the birds from flying over your head, but you can prevent them from making a nest in your hair"
There are things we can not control, but we can control how we think upon them and react to them. I try to practice on not having bad thoughts in my head and the endless to do list, just stress. I do not have to dwell on them, I can break them down to easier to manage bits and some I can just put right out of my head because what is the point of stressing over something that you can do nothing about. It is not always easy to do, but again with practice it becomes habbit and "playing the glad game" as Pollyanna would suggest really does help.
I know you will do well and those are really good resulations, don't worry if you don't stick to them, keep trying that is all that matters. And stress is a part of life, but we don't have to stress over the impossible stuff or dwell on the stress. Take life one day at a time, minute by minute when needed. And don't forget to read a good book and enjoy a nice hot cup of tea! :)
I am going to be updating everything tomorrow. It's been a bit of a rough day today trying to get some stuff done around the house! I promise I have not forgotten about updating things!
I've decided to take the children's books off of my total reading challenge. I feel like it's cheating. So I'm just going to count them towards the picture book challenge. The only one I'm going to keep is the Caretakers Guide to Fablehaven because it was over 100 pages and an actual reading book.
I thought you told me it could be included.
I know. Especially if I'm adding like 4 in a day and some hardly have any words. So I think I'll only count books that you have to read that have pictures, graphic novels and stuff like that towards the goodreads main challenge.
Leela Did you decide to count them?
Andrea! Are you counting the picture books towards the main challenge?
I'm having a decision making breakdown. Lol

I started counting them. It's part of a challenge. It's a book. I'll count them. Plus I'm too lazy to go back and remove them. Lol.
Ok I'm going to put them back. Now I don't feel bad. They are books! Lol why do I doubt myself! I needed the reassurance!!!
I had not even thought about it. I mean I read at least one children's book a night because of the kids. I know I have a separate count for them. I might add them at the end of the year. I don't know honestly lol. I am now torn bit I may add them to the count. I do say anything over 100 pages definitely counts.
Ok I vote Andrea gets a harder reading challenge if that's the case. XD you win your goal by mommy default! But that's so sweet that you read to them every night! <3 I think I'll just add mine. Cause I don't read many children books anyways since my collection is a slow one. Lol.
I am going to add the storybook collects definitely they are thick as some of my regular books. They step into reading ones not so much but they are going in my picture book challenge.
Lol I already added the other ones back so I'm adding them all! I'll just go way over my goal at the end of the year hopefully. I chose 100. 80 should be audiobooks 5 should be eBooks at least 15 will be actual books but probably more since I've read 2 this month and then on top of that 50 will be picture books. So I should go over my goal of 100 hopefully unless I have a major fail at some point. Lol or get a boyfriend or a really active social life!!!!!
Andrea you should definitely count them!!!

The kids have a bunch of step into reading books and at the rate we read them I would be at 100 books by the end of March beginning of April. lol

That's so sweet Andrea, my mom used to read to me and my siblings when I was younger, and I know it is probably one of the leading factors in how I got into reading and in turn writing.
I want them to have the same love of reading as their daddy and I have. So it only made sense to us to give not only toys but books for birthdays and Christmas. And we read every night from those books.
That sounds so sweet! Those kids are so lucky! <3
I was just going through my to read list and I noticed that there are books on there that I have already read, rated and reviewed. Has anyone else noticed this? I feel like at some point a while ago something was mentioned that when things were updated and all the editions were added in that it may have caused some issues with this but I'm not sure. I guess I should send in a question to the Goodreads Gods. I just wanted to see if anyone else noticed it. I have a feeling that I'm going to have to just delete the books that are doubled and re-add them. If they have any reviews attached I'll just have to copy and paste them. Ugh!

I have not noticed this. I guess I should take a peek at mine.

They love it. The little one who is 4 demands a story every night. Like seriously demands it. And if he doesn't want you to read it he finds the adult that he does want to read. So I don't read to them every night but they do get a story every night. Most nights it is me. Tuesday night it was my husband and my 4 year old was pretty serious about it. Like chased his dad down the hall and said "Read me a story!"

Yeah the little one things he's pretty cute. We never tell them no story unless we have gotten home really late and that has to be like ten or eleven at night but we had talked about it before the oldest was born that we would never tell them no to a story because we want them to read.

Ok so my stepmom decided to buy me a used kindle. Which I very much appreciated. But the problem is... It's locked. Meaning the password of the previous owner didn't clear the password. Can I even fix this? I can't tell which kindle it is. Not fire tho.

We have started a new Chit Chat Board. Now a couple of things to get us started!
Do not post in all capital letters all the time unless you are super excited. This can be about anything here. We have boards dedicated to the books of the month and you are welcome to chat to your hearts content about those books. The challenge boards are also open to talking there about them. This helps them from getting lost in the clutter of our chit chat. We hope everyone is having a great New Year!
