What MOVIES or DVDs have you seen? (PART NINE: On-Going General Thread)
I once planted lavender around a bird bath and interspersed it with mini orange day lilies. it was very fetching.
Linda wrote: "Lavender is such a pretty color. Jim, do you have any lavender growing in your fields?"No, it doesn't do well here. We had 2 plants & one survived a few years, but the other never came back after 1. We like it, but it just doesn't do well.
Nina wrote: "I once planted lavender around a bird bath and interspersed it with mini orange day lilies. it was very fetching."Sounds lovely.

At least you gave it a go. I might try planting some - see what happens.
I recently watched "Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory" on TCM. It had a very satisfying surprise ending. I had never seen the whole movie before this. Gene Wilder made it very entertaining. I've always liked him."Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory" (1971)

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl
I added it to my queue so thanks for the suggestion. Just watched after twenty years "When Harry Met Sally," again and so love Meg Ryan in it.
Jim wrote: "You should watch the new one with Johnny Depp & see how they compare, Joy."No thanks. I read the reviews. Johnny Depp is too dark for me.
Nina wrote: "I added it to my queue so thanks for the suggestion. Just watched after twenty years "When Harry Met Sally," again and so love Meg Ryan in it."They are a cute couple in that movie.
Joy H. wrote: "I recently watched "Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory" on TCM. It had a very satisfying surprise ending. I had never seen the whole movie before this. When Harry Met Sally and You've Got Mail with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan - good comfort movies. Going to add these 2 dvd's to my list of dvd's to own. I only own about 20 and they are movies that are good and timeless, can watch anytime, any year.
Nina wrote: "Watched, "Brideshead Revisited," again after many years and not sure I liked it. Too introspective."Not my cup of tea.
FILM: "Brideshead Revisited" (2008)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0412536/?...
"A poignant story of forbidden love and the loss of innocence set in England prior to the Second World War."
WIKI: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bridesh...
==================================
"The novel explores themes including nostalgia for the age of English aristocracy, Catholicism, and the nearly overt homosexuality of Sebastian Flyte's coterie at Oxford University."
"A faithful and well-received television adaptation of the novel was produced in an 11-part miniseries by Granada Television in 1981."
"In 2008 Brideshead Revisited was developed into a feature film of the same title, with Emma Thompson as Lady Marchmain..."
============================
Brideshead Revisited by Evelyn Waugh
PS-Source of title, "Brideshead Revisited":"Includes "the Flytes, a family of wealthy English Catholics who live in a palatial mansion called Brideshead Castle."
FROM: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bridesh...
Brideshead Castle (in the story) is in Wiltshire. Wiltshire is a county in South West England.
Sometimes a movie is enjoyable because of the setting, views, landscape and architecture. I like the movie "P.S. I Love You" mostly because of the beautiful scenery in Ireland.
Yesterday I watched "Rebecca" on TCM. Of course, I had seen it before years ago, but it was still an absorbing drama. So well acted."Rebecca" (1940)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0032976/?...
"A self-conscious bride is tormented by the memory of her husband's dead first wife."
Stars: Laurence Olivier, Joan Fontaine, George Sanders
Directed by Alfred Hitchcock .
Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier
Anyone interested in having lunch, breakfast or any meal with me when I come to your area to visit and view landmarks that are in my novel? I haven't set the dates that I will be there but probably early October.
Since you are an author and the Crandall Library is in the central location of the places you want to visit, perhaps contact them and inquire if someone is interested in providing a tour and meet with you.
Linda wrote: "Since you are an author and the Crandall Library is in the central location of the places you want to visit, perhaps contact them and inquire if someone is interested in providing a tour and meet w..."Great idea, Linda, especially since the library is part of the story.
I visited a larger branch of the Omaha Public Library this week. They have more DVDS than my small branch. This week I will be viewing the PBS 2007 Documental "The Secret Life of the Brain." When the series was first aired in 2007 I missed it so I am looking forward to it.
It won an Emmy Award for Best Scientific or Technical Production.
PS-I see that Netflix has that documentary:"The Secret Life of the Brain" (2002)
https://dvd.netflix.com/Movie/The-Sec...
I watched it in Oct. 2016.
I also picked up a set of DVDS for light entertainment. They had the Complete Second Season of Wagon Train---1958.
I was always a fan of Westerns when young. Not up to PBS yet, late last night I popped in Disc One of "Wagon Train" and watched a few episodes.
You know, for being over fifty years old the episodes hold up surprisingly well. No not fantastic Emmy winners---but a decent hours woth of entertainment. Comparible in quality imho to at least some of today's writing.
We are watching: "The Pacific"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Pac...
executive directors - Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks
A mini-series. 10 episodes.
Watched 3 episodes yesterday.
Today, my husband is watching 2 episodes without me. I'm more in the mood for something lighter and funny.
Watched an old Disney movie again after many years ago, "That Darn Cat," and can't imagine how they got that darn cat to perform all the various tricks. Still amazing. We, too, once had a Siamese but doubt very much she would have co-operated to that extent.

Last night we watched "Lion" - a true story. Very good movie. Also a book. The actor who portrays young Saroo is adorable - captures your heart. Story puts your heart on edge.
I can't imagine being so young and small - lost in a heavily populated city in India - and no one paying attention to you.

Anyone read the book?
I watched a Netflix DVD, "For the Boys" (1991) with Bette Midler.http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0101902/?...
Thought I would enjoy it because I love Bette Midler but there were too many war scenes.
I added "Lion" to my Netflex list. And Linda I just had some delicious cream cheese blueberry bars that my neighbor sent over. If you want the recipe I'll send it along to you.

Linda, my email address is tlpwrite@juno.com and if you would send me an email with your street address I will mail you the blueberry recipe. It is too long to copy on goodreads. I also have a few other really good b. recipes. One is from an old New England Inn's recipe book for blueberry muffins.

Good old movie we saw last night starring Jane Wyman. Why did Reagan leave her for Nancy? Movie was "So Big," and was a Pulitzer Prize winner book for Edna Ferber.
But then, would he have wound up being president and would the walls have come tumbling down when they did?

Joy - sounds like a good movie. I'll look on Amazon Prime for this movie. I like Maggie Smith.
