Thanks, they haven't started yet so will be a while. All ceilings down there must be replaced. We did pick some carpet today and all the overstuffed furniture is ruined so that must also be replaced. We did wash the bed sheets and they seem OK.

Hush Money: A Mystery by Chuck Greaves was really good. An excellent mystery centered around horses. I gave it a 4 star review here:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I recommended it to my horsey daughter and she said when she gets the time she'll check it out. So sad about Notre Dame. It was a moving tribute I watched on TV this morning with the Parisians singing hyms while 400 firemen worked to save the structure.
Book club selection this month is "Tangerine" by Christine Mangan. Takes place in Tangier, Morocco. Easy reading. Captured within the first sentence or two.

Lucky for the renovation in place otherwise more artifacts and such would have been destroyed.
A friend of mine's daughter lives in Paris and she reported to her mother that the firemen were braving flames to rescue the artifacts.
The Man Who Climbs Trees is the autobiography of James Aldred who has climbed, photographed, & helped film many nature shows, but always in the background. Today was my ninety second birthday/aren't I lucky?
Thanks, it was happy as my daughter who lives in ID surprised me with a visit. We are still in the midst of recovery and now doing the living room walls and carpet so everything had to be emptied; books and china and other treasures. Just like moving again.
Rain rain go away; don't come again until every thing dries out and doesn't flood the poor people liiving near the flood zone.
We're supposed to get it today & over the weekend. It will make for a wet Derby day.
The Derby was a disappointment. I don't recall ever seeing a horse disqualified without being directly accused by the one it interfered with nor one that took so long to make. It took them 25 minutes? Normally it takes no more than 5. Not a good call, IMO. That seems to be the consensus, too.
With a three day holiday weekend, I have started with a 481 page book! It is Hyperion I am 108 pages in so far, and am enjoying it but not as much as I'd hoped. It is science-fiction and won the Hugo Award for best SF novel that year. Howver, I am going to hang on a little longer--some books start slow and improve later.
I'm reading, "Northern Lights Lodge," by Julie Caplin and it is a good escape from all the rainy weather to immerse myself in that northern ice bound country. Once long ago I flew Icelandic airlines over that country and what I remember seeing was a totally pink land/it was dawn and the sun shining on it.
New carpet installed today but the bookcases still empty as the books are piled on the hot tub. Too tired to put them away. Almost finished with reconstruction. Yeah!

It looks interesting but I just read, "The Library Book," and it too is quite extensive in the history of libraries although the main focus is the fire at the library in LA. It's a great read.
On a cousin's recommendation I just purchased the last copy Barnes and Noble had and also six hundred and fifty excellent reviews convinced me. Here is the title, "Short Nights of the Shadow Catcher," by Timothy Egan. Can't wait to read it.
Outpost is the first of an SF trilogy by W. Michael Gear. I read another trilogy by him about 15 years ago & liked it, so I'm not surprised that I was really impressed by this one. I gave it a 4 star review here:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Just finished reading "Dreaming of Venice," and made me so wish I was there again.
Bellevue: Three Centuries of Medicine and Mayhem at America's Most Storied Hospital was fantastic. Not really what I expected since the history of the hospital itself was obfuscated by the author educating me on the politics, people, & state of medicine of the time. It was really interesting. Joy, I thought about you this morning as do you remember we once had a running fun theme about how old sayings got their start. I thought of that when a woman walked in front of us as we were driving down a busy street and she was crossing in the middle of it and my husband said, "Look at the woman jay walking," What is the reason that is called Jay walking, I wonder?
The Naturalist: Theodore Roosevelt and His Adventures in the Wilderness was really good. It's a side of Roosevelt that's often overlooked, shadowed either by his work with the parks or hunting. I gave it a 4 star review here:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Watched the movie," Treasure Island" and remembered seeing the place Robert Louis Stevenson lived when he wrote the book. We couldn't go in the house but did walk in what had been his previous garden. Fun experience.

Clock Dance by Anne Tyler
I agree that some things were unexplained and it did jump quite a bit in time sequence that bothered me but overall I came away liking it. I wanted the main character to get with it and finally she did and I will say the story stayed with me after the finish.
