Has anyone ever read this or is currently reading this series? I'm currently toy on the 4th book, Plague, and could really use someone to discuss the series with!

OK... let's discuss

Question 1: Are some folks inherently good or evil?
Here we have a book where all of a sudden, all adult authority disappears. Some kids "Go Bad" others are drawn to the good.

Albert is one kid that fascinated me in the first book. The way that he took over the McDonalds was interesting and his foresight about the potential problems with a society where no one is working were thought provoking.

Question 2: In Gone Did anyone else speculate what the countdown clock was leading up to?

My first guess was how long until the Barrier came down and the FAYZ rejoined society at large. WRONG!

Question 3: Are kids naturally savages? One of the things that fascinates me and scares me about the whole GONE series that kids 1) have a less developed sense of judgement than mature adults. 2) They tend to live and act in the now 3) they have more energy than adults. 4) They have a greater capacity than adults in pretty much every extreme.

Perhaps it's that they've not learned the inhibitions that adults have learned and are equally capable of the tenderest caring and the most horrific violence. It's this potential for violence, this feeling of menace that gives these books much of their appalling appeal.

I have no kids of my own. I'd be curious what parents think of this.

Question 4: Anyone else notice the continuity error?

I think there is one involving Astrid's house. It's supposedly burned down in the first book and yet, there's mention of her folk's artificial Christmas tree being set up in Hunger.
