Nitya ran as fast as she could, ducking as a ball of fire flew over her and lit a neighboring tree on fire. She shrieked and ran the other way, only to be encountered by a wall of fire instead. She was trapped, back to the flames that were hot enough to make it feel like her skin was cooking. Sweat broke out on her body and stung the burns already marring her skin. In front of her were several creatures, one could hardly call them human, who had fire either in their hands or covering their bodies. Why they were after someone like her, she was hardly anything special or so she thought, she did not know. What she did know is that they planned on killing her.

She squealed in agony as when she ducked to roll out of the way, the back of her shirt caught on fire. She yowled in pain as she rolled around, trying to put it out.

As she was writhing in pain, the creatures closed in on her, all preparing their own version of a fireball as she slipped into unconsciousness from her injuries.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When Nitya woke up, she was in a cave with a shadowy figure. Before she could speak or ask where she was, he spoke in a hushed tone. "Shh. Save your strength. You are badly wounded and not only do we not have time, but we cannot be overheard. You have a cat form, correct? Shift into your smallest, most domestic form you have, and do not shift out of it until you see me again. I will hide you beneath my cloak and take you somewhere safe, then come for you again when it is safe for you to return. There is no time to not trust me, I am your only hope of being safe from those fire creatures."
Nitya bit her lip, but she really had no choice but to listen to him. She could feel the heat from the burns covering her body, and knew there was no way she could even think of running anymore. There was no choice but to hope that this man was really here to help her. As one who could only shift to wild cats, she had to take a minute to think of a cat that was wild and small. She settled for the desert cat. It was small, and looked quite docile most of the time. The transformation caused her a lot of pain and she writhed on the floor until her transformation was finished, where she promptly lost consciousness.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The cloaked figure scooped Nitya up after she lost consciousness, hiding her beneath his flowing cloak as he ran for the nearest town.

When he reached it, he grabbed a basket as he looked around for a house with a suitable type of energy. One house had the perfect amount of good energy, and had an air of cat enjoyment in it. There was enough to keep away the fire creatures, who were too full of bad energy to be anywhere near it. He placed the basket on the ground and placed Nitya in it, wrapped in a soft blanket. He put a lid on the basket, then a note on top of it. He had it timed perfectly, so that the person in the house would be back in less than an hour as he hid to watch the proceedings.

The note on top of the basket read,

"Things are not as they seem. Her name is Nitya. Take good care of her, and all will be explained in good time."

Gio (mediamartyr17) | 386 comments John walked up the driveway of his home, wearing a black v-neck,slim fit(not skinny)khakis, and black Classic Converses. He was coming back from a day of work at the local Target. He was wearing his glasses today and tried his best to not push them up like a stereotypical nerd. The fact that he had to push up his glasses every so often was irritated him about glasses to the point that he opted to not wear glasses.

John's foot his something that wasn't usually on his doorstep. He knelt down when he saw the basket. He immediately opened it, and let out a loud gasp at the beautiful cat inside. He then noticed that there was note. He read the note and brushed off the fact that things weren't what they seemed. What could be odd about an adorable cat in a basket.?

He picked up the basket carefully, stood and walked into his home after unlocking it. He wondered what kind of name was Nitya. He took the basket upstairs after retrieving his mail and making a bowl of popcorn.

His bedroom was very eclectic with its white walls, its various posters from multiple genres of multiple forms of media, its plasma screen TV where the monitor of a computer belonged, its walk-in closet that held a small and red lateral file cabinet at one end and an empty trophy case at the other, and its Queen size bed.

Gio (mediamartyr17) | 386 comments Jonathan heard the cry of pain. He put the basket down and opened it. He saw the burn marks on the cat. "Oh my. Who would do this to such an adorable cat?" He wrapped the cat back in the blanket and carefully took her out of the basket. He laid her on his bed, Then he went to the adjoining bathroom and came back with some ointment for human burns. " I hope this works." He up wrapped the cat and began to carefully apply the ointment to the visibly burned areas.

Gio (mediamartyr17) | 386 comments After applied the ointment he went downstairs and came back with a baby bottle of milk. John put it up to her mouth.

Gio (mediamartyr17) | 386 comments John wasn't really sure about what he was doing. He went through what he knew about cats. Cats had tails...Duh. They always landed on their feet...No wait that one is a myth. Cats liked milk...He already had that covered. Cats had nine...Cut it out with the myths. John took a deep breath and reached to pet her, but remembered that she had burns. John just watched her drink the milk.

Gio (mediamartyr17) | 386 comments John petted her head tenderly. He didn't expect this to happene today and he felt like the was taking it pretty well.

"John?" His mother yelled from down stairs.

"Up here.!" John replied. His mother said that she was coming up. His mother wasn't a normal woman. She was gone most of the time doing some kind of work at the Smithsonian or what ever it was she called her field work for the CIA these days. His mother had taught him everything he knew about self-defense and everything he knew about organizational skills. His father was the artsy one until he did of cancer three years ago.

Gio (mediamartyr17) | 386 comments John picked up Nitya in the blanket and sat her in his lap. He whispered to the little cat. "Hey it's okay. She's not gonna hurt you..." He looked at the paper and tried to say the cat's name. "...Knit-Tea-Ya.. or is it Night-Tie-Yay. Your name looks cute, but I've never seen it before."

message 13: by Gio (new)

Gio (mediamartyr17) | 386 comments "So it's Knit-Tea-Ya? I wonder where that comes from?" Jon said as he petted un her ear, seeing what that would do.

His mom knicked in the door.

"Come in. Or do I need get my taser?" Johnatahn joked. He knew it was his mother by the weird way he knocked. He knocked with the back of her hand so her nails scratch a little when she knocks. It's his secret version of when children ask people that aren't their parents the special password. It's possible that she did that so I can know it's her. The house had been broken into before and he had been kidnapped before. Both of those happened when he was very small, but it flashed every time he thinks he hears his mother.

"When did you get a cat, Mr. Athanasius?"

"A couple weeks ago." His mother had also taught him everything she knew about how to lie and how to detect a lie. He didn't use it and he was so good at it it that the trained CIA agent didn't know. "I think I accidentally left her in the sun too long because her burn marks look like they flared. See, she's got patches of fur missing and everything.

His mom gasped. She had a sensitivity to animals. Distract the subject and their observationalm prowess dwindles Just like Mother taught him.

"It's okay though. I'll take good care of Nitya. Isn't that right?" He moved to the other ear.

message 14: by Gio (new)

Gio (mediamartyr17) | 386 comments His mom nodded and said. "I'm gonna go look through all my mail from the last 3 months."

"Enjoy." John said with politely indifferent expression.

His mother left, closing the door behind her. He looked at the time was surprised that it was already 9:30.

Gio (mediamartyr17) | 386 comments After doing his homework and taking a shower he came into the room wearing basketball short with not shirt and holding a pillow for Nitya to sleep on. After getting her set up he turned off the light and got into bed.

message 16: by Gio (new)

Gio (mediamartyr17) | 386 comments John adjusted himself in the bed and said goodnight to Nitya before falling asleep
----
Life went on as he slept. When he rose out of bed, he found himself with the feet of a kangaroo. He found himself surprised and figured that it couldn't be real. He closed and covered his eyes. When he opened them they were back to being human legs.

message 17: by Gio (new)

Gio (mediamartyr17) | 386 comments John didn't have any obligations to go anywhere so he turned on the plasma via remote. The computer that it was attached to also started. He then got on the floor and looked at Nitya eye to eye. "How are your wounds, little Nitya Catnip" He had already grown a fondness for the cat he had only had in his care since the night before.

Gio (mediamartyr17) | 386 comments "If you could talk I'm sure you'd say some really interesting things." John said.
