We are all wondering this same thing. But keep in mind that Popsugar has ALWAYS maintained a mysterious silence about the list, and this reading challenge has never been a big part of their website - a few times they did release teasers prior to the main list, but most years they did not, they just surprised us with the list one day. After Tara left, Lisa Peterson posted on Facebook in August saying they are definitely planning a 2023 list. We haven't heard anything since. I reached out privately and got silence a few weeks ago.

ATY: 51/52
RHC: 19/24?

Bra - it’s people tracking their progress in different reading challenges, the number of categories they’ve completed and the total number of categories. (Popsugar, Around the Year, and Book Riot’s Read Harder Challenge are the three abbreviations in your example)

Thanks, Nadine. I figured it had something to do with various challenges but couldn't decipher which ones. I participate in several GR groups...and thus, multiple challenges.

Brandon Harbeke | 696 comments I saw links to the group's favorite books from 2018 and onward in some post this week, but I can't seem to locate it again. Can someone please post a link to that other post or post the links to those lists in this thread? Thanks in advance.

message 560: by Merilee (new)

Merilee | 14 comments Is anyone else disappointed with the 2023 challenge? it's a lot of repeat prompts - including shortest and longest books on your TBR list. I think they had staffing change at pop sugar but the new person should have checked previous prompts more closely.

Gerald wrote: "I didnt understand where do we put nominations for group reads?"

Each year we choose 12 categories from the list of 50 that Popsugar publishes, and then throughout the year we have polls to nominate books to read for each of those categories. Right now the poll is live to nominate a book for September's group read for "a modern retelling of a classic" https://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/2...

Here is the list of the 12 categories for this year:
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

I see you are making a lot of posts about Adam Medvidović. I don't think his book will fit into any of our upcoming group read categories, but if you are looking to buddy read with some other people, you can make a post in the Book Discussions folder for a "buddy." I see you've already found that folder!

Yes.

You can count your books with any start date you wish.

If you're using the official little "widget" then it counts all books with a "read" date after January 1st. So if you start it now but finish it some time in 2024, it will be counted by the widget.

As long as you finish in 2024. Page count doesn't matter, unless you are tracking it.

You can bookmark the position of your comment. If you click on the timestamp of your list (to the right of your name), then bookmark/favourite that URL (it will have a comment number on the end of it). Every time you go to that URL it will go direct to your list.

laurel! (laurelreadsbooks) | 30 comments I'm joining this challenge for the first time in 2024! However, when I was plotting all my books in 2023, I signed up for the challenge....but somehow just signed up for the 2023 challenge, since it was Dec 27th or something. Now that it's ended, it's left me on 0/50, which irks me. Obviously not a huge deal, but is there any way I can remove it? I'm properly in the 2024 challenge now lol.

I'm not quite sure what you mean. Are you talking about that widget on the home page where you give it a shelf name and it counts how many books you've read? That widget is set up to count from Jan 1 through Dec 31, it won't straddle the years.

No, when I enter the popsugar group it shows me both the current (2024) challenge and a handful of past challenges. This includes 2023, which I mistakenly entered at the tail end of december, and it has me permanently stuck at 0/50 now. Is there any way to un-enter myself from that challenge now that it is over?

message 581: by Ellie (new)

Ellie (patchworkbunny) | 1756 comments laurel! wrote: "Is there any way to un-enter myself from that challenge now that it is over?..."

Can you see "update my entry" on your extra challenge? It's just a small text link on the right of the widget. If you click that, there's a leave challenge option. I don't know if it will work for old ones, if it's just broken you can try contacting Goodreads help at https://www.goodreads.com/about/conta...

I'm not sure, tbh I never enter anything for any of the challenges. I just poked around a little and it looks like once it's closed you can't edit it. You can ask GR help?

It doesn't really affect anything, so you don't need to worry about it, but if it's annoying you I hope GR help has a work around for you.

Bea | 648 comments OK...this does not apply directly to Popsugar, but I was hoping the members who re-read might be able to help.

I read Outlander quite a bit ago as an ebook. Now I want to do it as an audiobook. Since it is a different edition but the same book, how do I indicate that the re-read is a different edition without messing up the original details? I do know that you can indicate the dates for the re-read...but how do I indicate the edition read?

you can have a different review attached to different editions - go to the Editions, choose the one you want to review this time.

It gives me the option to Switch to This Edition. Does that just apply to the re-read or will it effect the previously read edition?

Bea wrote: "It gives me the option to Switch to This Edition. Does that just apply to the re-read or will it effect the previously read edition? ..."

I dont' know! I know it's possible, and I've done it before (and it happens ALL THE TIME without my wanting it to happen, when I sign up for giveaways another edition is shelved), but I just tried to do it intentionally, and any changes I tried to make to exclusively the new edition just were made to my original review.

There is a help post about this, and I tried following their directions and it didn't seem to work for me, BUT someone else posted to that same help post with directions that DO work for me!

the help post:
https://help.goodreads.com/s/question...

the method that worked (copied from that post):
* Go to whatever book you want to work with
* Go to the specific edition you want
* Scroll down to Ratings & Reviews. It'll show you the old edition that you previously read.
* Click the right arrow button. It'll show you a bit that says "Review this edition". Click the write a review button there.
* It will take you to the review page for the specific edition you're on and not the previous edition. There's a little section that says "Bookshelves/tags" and you can shelve the new edition from there.

Finding the right arrow and clicking on that was the key that I was missing! I bolded that direction for emphasis.

message 591: by Shaina (new)

Shaina | 16 comments My first ereader was the Kobo, but when it died, I bought a Kindle and am very happy with it too! The advantage of the Kindle is the access to books on Kindle unlimited, free amazon books and the wide range of books available to buy on Amazon. The only thing I miss is that my Kobo kept track of how many books and pages I read but I do that on GR anyway. Hope that helps.

Honestly I think they've broken challenges in general. My main one says I'm 99 books behind! And I don't think group challenges should redirect to their challenge either.

I would suggest reporting it. The more people who complain the more likely they will fix it:
