Because actual world domination is too much trouble, USA Today-bestselling author Sherry Thomas decided that her goal is life is to write every kind of book she enjoys reading. Thus far she has published romance, fantasy, mystery, and a wuxia-inspired duology. Her books regularly receive starred reviews and best-of-the-year honors from trade publications, including such outlets as the New York Times and National Public Radio. She is also a two-time winner of Romance Writers of America’s prestigious RITA® Award.

And by the way, English is her second language.

Her upcoming release is A STUDY IN SCARLET WOMEN , book 1 of the gender-bending Lady Sherlock mystery series.

I will, but this doesn't mean I will sign any more contracts writing historicals--my next contract with Berkley is for historical mysteries.

The last eight historical romances I'd written--out of the nine published--had all been kind of under pretty intense time pressure. I'll admit, there were some plots I wasn't proud of--amnesia, anyone?--but used out of desperation because two characters and sexy banter do not a book make, damn it.

So I don't want to commit myself to writing historical romances ahead of time. I want them to come to me organically. There is this WWI novella already brewing in my head and I am kind of chomping at the bits to try it. We'll see how that goes.(less)
Sherry Thomas I have just this moment finished THE IMMORTAL SEA. It will be published October 13 of this year, iirc.

If you are wondering whether Charlotte Holmes will have a romantic HEA, my answer is probably. I've only just finished book 2 and it will take a while yet. And I'm totally not opposed to writing historical romance, just as soon as I have a goo See Full Answer

“Anguish. German soldiers--with their steel helmets and their death's-head emblem. Still, our first impression of the Germans were rather reassuring. The officers were billeted in private homes, even in Jewish homes. Their attitude toward their hosts was distant but polite. They never demanded the impossible, made no offensive remarks, and sometimes even smiled at the lady of the house. A German officer lodged in the Kahns' house across the street from us. We were told he was a charming man, calm, likable, and polite. Three days after he moved in, he brought Mrs. Kahn a box of chocolates. The optimists were jubilant: "Well? What did we tell you? You wouldn't believe us. There they are, your Germans. What do you say now? Where is their famous cruelty?

The Germans were already in our town, the Fascists were already in power, the verdict was already out--and the Jews of Sighet were still smiling.”

Sherry Thomas, Not Quite a Husband

“I’ve always loved you,” he said, his eyes a blue that was almost violet. “You know this.” She swallowed a lump in her throat. “I only wonder whether I deserve such devotion.”
“Sometimes people fall in love with those who do not return the same strength of feelings. It is as it is,” he said with a quiet intensity. “What I give, I give freely. You owe me nothing, not love, not friendship, not even obligation.”
Sherry Thomas, Tempting the Bride

“Sometimes limbs must be re-broken to set properly, her heart too needed to shatter anew before it could truly heal.”

Jenny,

Think about how fast 2010 disappeared. 2012 will be here before you know it. :-)

And to everyone else who left comments,

I'm so sorry. I had no idea folks were leaving comments on my profile--until my husband changed the settings on GoodReads for new comments etc to show up in my inbox earlier this year. Thank you for all your kind words and happy reading!
