Hi Everyone,

I am so happy to see people joining this group, and some of you are new faces to me. So, I thought it might be nice to post some introductions for people from various libraries who might not know one another.

For those of you who don't know me, I've worked in various positions in MCLS since 1984. I began my library career at the Gates Library, then worked at Ogden from 1999-2007. I've been at the Central Library since 2007 and RPL/MCLS Director since 2009.

My favorite stories to read are mysteries, but I also enjoy reading fantasy, fairy tales, historical fiction, cookbooks, biographies, history, children's & teen books.

Looking forward to getting to know all of you....

Patty

㋛ ㋡ (depravitytest) Hey everyone! I'm Ashley, currently a PT librarian at Gates and a substitute librarian at Webster. I am heavily into memoir- currently invested in female comedians and stories of recovery. I also like books about New York City 1970s punk/poetry, anything with a feminist bent, and oddball books on spirituality. I'm also a sucker for the beats.

Stephanie (stephthebookworm) | 17 comments Hello everyone! I'm Steph, and I've been with the Greece Public Library for about 5.5 years now. I got my MLS in 2013. I'm currently at our Barnard Crossing Branch where I order adult fiction and several other collections.

I read A LOT of genres, but my favorites are contemporary fiction, chick lit, YA, and mysteries (especially cozies). I had a baby this year and have found myself reading a lot more nonfiction lately and have been loving motherhood memoirs in particular.

I'm looking forward to reading with you all!

Chad Cunningham | 12 comments I'm Chad. I've worked at Gates since the Dawn of Time. Or 1986. With a few years off for travel and sloth. I'm currently the head of Circulation Services at Gates.

I read fiction of all stripes and memoirs and biographies of creative types. I love looking at art. I taught myself to read from comic books and I love them to this day.

I'm Adrienne. I'm the director of the Henrietta Public Library, but I was a children's librarian through most of my career, which is clear in my reading list, which includes a LOT of picture books. Other than that I read widely and gravitate to books that make me laugh, make me think, inspire me, or teach me something I need to know. Lately that's been books on human behavior, management stuff, self-help, memoirs, and fiction of various types. I read a lot of books recommended by friends, and I listen to a lot of books on audio.

Diane Premo | 23 comments Hi Everyone! I'm Diane and I am the Adult Services Librarian at the Winton Branch. I have been at Winton since 1996--almost 20 years, hard to believe! I generally love mysteries, historical fiction, good narrative nonfiction and memoirs. The last book I loved was H is for Hawk by Helen Macdonald. I am anxious to expand my horizons a bit--into graphic novels, YA, and science fiction, and am really looking forward to this challenge. Read on!!

message 7: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 9 comments I'm Jen. I have been at Gates for three years and I work in tech services, processing children's and teen materials. I am currently into psychological thrillers and dystopian fiction, however I do read a variety of genres. I also have a passion for picture books and love teen fiction as well!

Hi! I'm Hannah. I'm a Children's Library Assistant at Webster. I've got one semester left to finish my MS LIS. My reading preferences go through phases, but I really enjoy the classics, poetry, non-fiction, and memoir. This year was the year of the graphic novel for me. I was enlightened after being hired at Webster, which as you all know has an awesome GN collection. I've also been very much enjoying audiobooks on my commute from Canandaigua. The Goldfinch by Donna Tart was AMAZING, and I highly recommend it. So, in 2016 I hope to dig deeper into the comic world, catch up on my Jane Austen, revisit Dostoevsky, discover more great audiobooks, and start writing poetry again. Hope to meet y'all in person eventually!

message 9: by Robin (new)

Robin Benoit | 1 comments I'm Robin, and I retired in May after being Children's Librarian at Fairport for the last 35 years. I still dream that I am working at Fairport almost every single night, even though retirement is pretty great! I have been reading so much in retirement, although lately I am stuck on light mysteries due to post-Christmas letdown.

message 10: by Margaret (new)

Margaret | 13 comments Hi & Hello, I'm Margaret Paige from the Monroe Branch Children's Room. My favorites would have to be historical fiction, Elephant & Piggie (yes, I took the liberty of making Mo Willems' series a genre of its own), memoirs/autobiographies, nonfiction how-to books, and graphic novels! Looking forward to seeing and perhaps picking up what you're reading.

I'm Dan, and I have been a page at Webster for three months now. I adore poetry, classical literature, and philosophy.

Deb Leary | 1 comments Greetings, all! I'm Deb. I've been retired from RPL for a little over 2 years and miss it terribly (well, at least a little bit...). I read anything that strikes my fancy at the moment, but always have a series of some sort going in the background - might be fantasy, might be mystery. Listening to audiobooks helps me feed my knitting addiction. One of my resolutions is to use Goodreads more, so this will help. Thanks, Patty, for including retirees!

Maria | 5 comments Hi everyone,

I am the Children's Librarian at Sully. My reading preferences vary from day to day, but one thing that has stayed constant is my love for everything written by Neil Gaiman. Happy reading everyone!!

Hi Ashley!
1970s NYC punk history recommendation for you: Please Kill Me by Legs McNeil. I really enjoyed it.

message 15: by Pat (new)

Pat (patrapp) | 28 comments Hi! I'm Pat. I've been a clerk at Fairport for 20 years. My reading choices are all over the map. I lean mostly towards non-fiction, but I also enjoy science fiction, graphic novels, and once in a while something old and classic. A lot of my reading for the past few years has been online, so this challenge will encourage me to pick up a book once in a while. ;-)

message 16: by Abby (new)

Abby (abbynormal11) | 1 comments Hello Everyone!

I'm Abby, and I'm the Adult Librarian at Brockport Seymour Library. I have a diverse taste in books, and I will read pretty much any genre, fiction or non-fiction, that catches my eye. However, I will say, if I was stranded on an island I would try and bring some fantasy and paranormal mysteries with me.

Reading challenges keep me on my toes, so I'm happy to be participating with all of you!

message 17: by Lee Ann (new)

Lee Ann | 3 comments Hi, I'm Lee Ann. I have worked in MCLS for (mumble mumble) years. I started in Greece, took 5 years off for children, then came back to Highland, off to Bergen Public Library, then back to Highland and finally landed at Chili where I have been since 1997. I love to read just about anything except horror (scares me silly!). But, give me any other kind of fiction, memoir, biography, or humor and I'm good! Thank you, Patty, for the invite. I am looking forward to this 2016 challenge

message 18: by Alicia (new)

Before that I was in the Local History and Genealogy division at Central. Historical Fiction novels and Mysteries set back in the 1800's early 1900's are my favorite type of books to read. Hey, Ashley, I was checking in the book the other day that looked interesting. As I was finally accessing the GoodReads groups, your post made me think of it! Pastrix> is a memoir about an unconventional female comedienne who becomes a pastor.

Emily (emnylibrarian) | 30 comments So I'm a little late to the party! But this is a year long party, so huzzah!

My name is Emily and I'm currently a PT Circulation Clerk III at the Central Library. I am in a career shift after 8 years as a school librarian. I love working at the circulation desk!

I have range of favorites, but I am currently digging a lot of audiobooks--particularly history & memoirs. I have a deep and abiding love of romance (any subgenre). As a school librarian, I also dig child's & YA lit.

message 22: by Anne (new)

Anne | 1 comments Hello, I'm Anne and I am the children's librarian at Ogden, where I've worked for 18 years now! I love mysteries, but read a lot of children's lit as well! I am looking forward to some wonderful book suggestions to widen my horizons!!!

Anne! Welcome! We can dish about books again! Yay!

message 24: by Melissa (new)

Melissa (mcbailey) | 19 comments I'm Melissa and I'm so not good at things like this! I've been the Media Librarian at Gates for about 16 years.

I've been pretty lazy in my reading the last couple of years...it's just so easy to download a free, subpar book onto my Kindle. I'm hoping this challenge will help jump start my brain again.

message 25: by Stacey (new)

Stacey | 1 comments Hello everyone! I'm Stacey, a PT library clerk at Irondequoit. I read a little bit of everything but love a good romance, children's picture books, and lots of nonfiction.

message 26: by Cathy (new)

Cathy (cathykyle) | 3 comments I'm Cathy! I'm the youth services supervisor at Chili and have a tendency to read crazy books over sensible books. Life is too short for that. I went from page and clerk in Highland, to adult services then director then youth services at Parma, then teen to youth services (and some tech services) at Chili. I like to get my hands into everything you might say!

message 27: by Mary Ann (new)

Mary Ann | 11 comments I'm Mary Ann from Webster. Been a Library Assistant for years, worked circ before that, worked in a parochial school library, and read to my kids for years before that. I love reading across many genres, and am often pleasantly surprised when I push myself to read something new. My comfort reading is quirky, funny, romantic, and maybe even paranormal.
