Finally posted my review up on Goodreads. I won't say anything on this forum just yet because it is spoiler free zone, but feel free to check out my review and/or add me as a friend :)
Thanks!
I got very excited when I heard this was a retelling of Cinderella. I got very confused when I read the words "cyborg" and "androids". honestly, my enthusiasm kinda plummeted when I realized it has robots and cyborgs in it. I'm not at all into science fiction , robots, etc. what surprised me the most was despite all that, I enjoyed the book quite a bit.
I'm like you, so not into robots and stuff, but I LOVED this book - the cyborg stuff is only one aspect and a metaphore for so much more

and that's what great about it. you never think a book inspired by a fairytale would have a cyborg as the heroine!! it would either be a complete disaster or a brilliant idea. think it was the latter in this case. I still need to recover from my Harry Potter hangover though. I think would've enjoyed this book way more if I hadn't just finished Harry Potter!!

I know right!! And who can blame us! We're so used to Victorian classics, cyborgs is a 180 turn for us!!

Hi Steph!
Yeah the book didn't live upto the hype for me either. But considering cyborgs and androids, I thought it was good. I'd probably give it 3/5 stars.

What do we think of Kai and his advisor?

can we all agree that Erland seems to be on another level of knowledge and planing? there's probably a lot more he hasn't told us yet. what's up with Africa?
All in all:Erland knew stuff .All along.i find that intriguing.
You're right about Erland: I already said it to one of you in DM, I very much hope he's coming with us to Africa in the second book

I agree with you guys, I enjoyed the book as well, I liked it but I didn't love it. There were so many cool concepts but the execution and depth wasn't great. Nevertheless I am still really looking forward to reading Scarlet.

I agree with Steph that I was pretty neutral about many of the characters - sometimes the dialogue felt a bit scripted (?) and obvious, and they didn't have as much depth and personality as I like.
There were some other flaws as well that bothered me when I was reading, but I can't remember them. I think I read "alliance of six kingdoms" somewhere, but if I did that couldn't be right seeing as some of the countries in the alliance aren't monarchies?
While it wasn't in any way a great book, it was an entertaining one. I've finished Scarlet and look forward to Cress, since people say they like that one more. I'd rate Cinder 3/5.

and I want Iko to come back too

Although I did speculate what is of Cinder, it still kind of got me lol! And Marie, they definitely need to bring back Iko! I can't wait to finish the series, just to see if Adri and The Queen get the karma that's on the way.

The fact that it's a spin off of one of the most popular fairytales and all the sparkling reviews had set the expectations very high. Yes it's nicely done, characters are nice , it's a completely different world we're experiencing. For that, I give the author credit. But did it live up to all the rave? Sadly, not for me. Perhaps the next books in the series will be better.

But I had some problems with some issues too. As Sarah already wrote, Dr Erland knew everything from the start. To me he seems a little bit manipulative and I think (and hope) that we will get to know him and his deeper longings better in the next books.
Also, like the other Sarah wrote, the moment they mentioned the lost princess I thought it must be Cinder. This is the one thing that really really bothers me about the plot. Maybe Meyer could have given some wrong clues or so.
The characters are a little bit stereotype, but I think that's a fairytale thing. I hope in the following books there are bad character traits in the nice figures and vice versa. But I think in the very end when Cinder decides to leave the palace, something in her is already changing and getting harder or harsher or so. And that Kai right now refuses to accept Cinder the way she is, is something I like too. So there is much room in the next books for many things to happen. At least I hope so, like many of you do, too :-)
