This folder is for a book that was published the year you graduated from high school.

Much easier than finding an author born the same year as you!

Please share your suggestions - perhaps a link to a list of books published the year you graduated, if you want to admit to it. :-)

Natália Lopes (silkcaramel) Much easier indeed! Since I graduated 2010, I have plenty to choose from.

message 5: by Kathy (new)

Kathy I really liked Kindred! I am 1985. I think I will read Here be Dragons by Sharon Kaye Penman.

message 6: by Valerie (new)

Valerie | 280 comments For the year 1981 I have chosen The Time of the Ghost by Dianne Wynne Jones.

message 7: by Amanda (new)

Amanda | 229 comments I am reading "The Sparrow" by Mary Doria Russell published in 1996. This was one of my cover buys this year, so I was happy it fit into this category.

Margo (dandylines) 1964.
I am having problems with this. Any suggestions would be helpful.
I have googled the topic and search Amazon but have only found "The Pianist" and "Pavilion of Women". The rest seem to be about war and post war survival, the camps and related depressing subjects.
Any other suggestions would be helpful.

Harriet the Spy and Sometimes a Great Notion written in 1964. Here is another list I found for that year:

Thank you for the information. Obviously I did not do my search correctly. I have found many very good choices. Now to narrow them down.

Katie | 15 comments Can anyone recommend a book they really enjoyed that was published in 2006?

Oh, that's a pretty good year (looking at a list of titles). From 2006, I enjoyed My Life in France by Julia Child and Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen. I'm still on the fence about Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert.

message 13: by Amy Beth (new)

Amy Beth Well, so, 1987. I'm considering The Broom of the System by David Foster Wallace or maybe The Black Dahlia by James Ellroy.

message 15: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teremazon) 1982: Master of the Game by Sydney Sheldon. Raunchy blockbuster will do me fine. Actually I could have counted this last year as "book my mum loves"

message 16: by Sharmon (new)

Sharmon (tpgirl) 1990...so I am going with Buffalo Girls because I need a Western for a different challenge group. Also, I have always been interested in Annie Oakley and Calamity Jane.

Water for Elephant's it is then. I tried Eat Pray Love before and just didn't take to it

Thomas Hillring (dakkster) What if I dropped out of high school?

How about reading something published the year you would have graduated, then? :D

message 20: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (jessicamdawn) | 19 comments 2009 - If I Stay. I didn't know this was published the year I graduated. I was just looking through the audiobooks from my library and happened to see it. So yeah, currently listening to this one.

message 21: by Regine (new)

Regine O Can anybody recommend a book published in 1994?

message 22: by Cinder (new)

Cinder | 44 comments Well, I won't be much use because it seems I've only read one YA or adult book published in '94, which was Girl Interrupted (which is also listed as published in '93 so I'm not sure). However, I have the following books on my to read list from '94 but I'm not sure if you're interested in them but here ya go: The Quiet Room: A Journey Out of the Torment of Madness, Lori Schiller; Prozac Nation, Elizabeth Wurtzel & Girl Missing, Tess Gerritsen. Sorry I'm not much help lol.

message 23: by Thomas (new)

Thomas Hillring (dakkster) 94?

I'd go with either Murakami's The wind-up bird chronicle, or Lehane's A drink before the war.

message 24: by Regine (new)

Regine O Thank you - I already read Prozac Nation and the Wind-Up Bird Chronicles but you gave me good recommendations. My problem is that certain books pop up on the 1994 release list but when I dig deeper I find out that the first release happened earlier and e.g. the paperbag came out that year.

Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil is an excellent book from 1994. I also enjoyed Spencerville by Nelson DeMille and The Chamber by John Grisham.

message 26: by Dana (new)

Dana (dkmckelvey) I feel like I have read all of the good books published in 2005. If anyone has any recs, let me know!

Here are some books from my book list that were published in 2005 that might interest you. I haven't read all of them but they are highly rated.

The Glass Castle: A Memoir by Jeannette Walls
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
Never Let Me Go by Kazoo Ishiguro
Fledgeling by Octavia Butler
Still Alice by Lisa Genova

message 28: by Dana (new)

Dana (dkmckelvey) Thanks! I just saw that Glass Castle is becoming a movie so I think I'll try that

message 29: by Mary Sue (new)

Mary Sue For 1977 I chose The Shining. I had seen the movie, but had never read the book. I loved it!
