Anika (pixiedane) | 9 comments I don't even read the 'present time' chapters of this anymore. I find individual lines and various ideas are better than Taylor's writing/storytelling but I'm a big fan of her Janeway and she made me care about one character I absolutely never cared about in the series.

The character descriptions are definitely a bit clunky, but I think that it likely because she's a screenwriter, not a novelist. The trade off, IMO, is that those characters voices are spot on.

Louise AE | 3 comments I think the characterisation issues you raise, Jarrah, are endemic to Voyager as a series. In my reading of Mosaic (and Pathways), the most drawn out characters in the books are those who were best written on the show, and vice versa. I don't think the writers knew what to do with Chakotay, or with Kes, which is a shame because they both had incredible potential. Kirsten Beyer's relaunch novels have gone a long way to addressing the Chakotay issue.
