Dhfan4life | 1051 comments Your luring me in sis, you luring me in.

message 3: by Dhfan4life (new)

Dhfan4life | 1051 comments Does dystopian count as futuristic? Or does it have to be more like the D.I.R.E. books? Stuff that is more established and not the result of some end of the world blow out or something?

message 4: by Jennifer, Bookworm (new)

Jennifer | 1553 comments Mod
haha aww. just futuristic in general. not all dystopian books are futuristic in that sense. so w/e u want XD

message 5: by Dhfan4life (last edited Dec 30, 2015 10:17AM) (new)

Dhfan4life | 1051 comments Thank goodness for all kinds of freebies as I do have one for futuristic. But dude you were killing me with a book you started and hadn't finished. Looks like I'm going round 2 with Confessions of a Demon (Allay, #1) by Susan Wright >_< will make it through eventually.

Also does a book starting with C count if the title starts with a The? Or does it have to be solely starting with C, regardless of the 'The'.

message 6: by Jennifer, Bookworm (last edited Dec 30, 2015 10:53AM) (new)

Jennifer | 1553 comments Mod
haha there u go XD. futuristic just meant anything futuristic in general. LOL omg its okies that ones gonna be a pain for me too XD. how many pages did u get into that book? Nah 'The' doesn't count simply bc theres sooooo many books that start with "The".

message 7: by Dhfan4life (new)

Dhfan4life | 1051 comments Ah okay, thanks for the clarifications on that. But now to decide between freebie I already have and another book, hmm.... I can't recall how many pages for the Demon book. But I checked my review I got up to chapter 8. And at least it is the shorter of the books I didn't finish.

message 8: by Jennifer, Bookworm (new)

Jennifer | 1553 comments Mod
np XD sorry thought i clarified it before but when i responded before i was on the kindle LOL so tend to keep things short there. >.> short books are nice for challenges haha :I. ooooh. thats good then haha

message 9: by Dhfan4life (new)

Dhfan4life | 1051 comments It's all good. And Kim is learning about the Kindle keyboard too. Quite the hoot. Oh and she has a 2016 challenge up too her group. But don't think I'll be joining it though.
Well it's 340ish compared to the tomb of that high fantasy book and Midnight Whispers at 400 something lol. But it is kind of slow and dry as the desert in the beginning for sure. But I'll persevere!

message 10: by Jennifer, Bookworm (new)

Jennifer | 1553 comments Mod
LOL my sympathies too her. i hate that keyboard. its easy to use but its so ridiculous with always messing up. haha nice. what kind of challenge is it?

oh man lmao. LOL dude ik that feeling. atm the sbs book that im doing is dragging so slow e.e it kinda feels like a filler for the series but halfway through it so far so hopefully itll pick up esp since its a shorter book.

ive been glued to the xbox most nights after dinner LOL -dead- and then read a little before bed :I

message 11: by Dhfan4life (new)

Dhfan4life | 1051 comments So true, she said she wishes she could put a regular keyboard on it. But it must be working well cause she loves the games. I think it's actually still in the works at the moment. But I know she said it's a group challenge and for sure would want folks to read the Neil Patrick Harris book to see other folks thoughts on it(but even though he is an alright actor and person, I don't feel up to reading an autobiography about him).
But yea, here is a link to it- https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... think she is still taking ideas too.

I won't even get into my SBS book. Thankfully almost done so it and the other library books can go back.

Haha, welcome back to the gaming community sis. I actually had contacted a game review website about work. And they had me do two reviews. But they never really got back to me about where they wanted the reviews or even told me, that one of the sites was a sort of gambling site. Even if it was for Bingo, and I still can't quite get my account removed from there. Sooooo annoying. But glad you enjoying the xbox.

message 12: by Jennifer, Bookworm (new)

Jennifer | 1553 comments Mod
haha i dont blame her. she should be able to put a bluetooth keyboard on it depending on which kindle she has. oooh. lmao yeah i dont really read autobiographies and if i did itd be a rare thing tbh. thanks XD

lolll aws

thanks sis XD! thats really awesome and ack that sucks too :/. sorry it ended up that way. lmao ive mostly been playing gta v and a tiny bit of tomb raider. i have aliens isolation but havent played it yet and current downloading thief from xbox live since it was free for december XD

message 13: by Dhfan4life (new)

Dhfan4life | 1051 comments The Amazon Fire, I think is the one she said she had. I'll have to ask her and see. Yea, I don't do biographies of the auto or just bio variety. And when I looked it up it was interestingly enough a choose your own adventure kind of style. But yea, still not really feeling NPS enough to want choose any adventures with him either, haha.

Welkie and IKR? No probs, I'm going to keep positive and keep on the job hunt. Nice variety of games there. I haven't gamed seriously in forever. But don't really miss it. Think my big girl panties are on officially now for sure. But going to look at it all as a fresh new start and keep pushing forward and keep it positive. :)

message 14: by Jennifer, Bookworm (new)

Jennifer | 1553 comments Mod
arent they all called the amazon fire aside from the really old ones? i could be wrong tho. haha aws. oh wow O_O thats diff. LOLLL sis XD

u can do it sis! something will come ur way eventually. dont give up ^.^. haha theres 3 more that were free game download tokens that came with it (dance central and two diff assassin's creed games). i dont think u have to be a certain age not to play games as long as they are just that (a game). my brother is in his 40s and games haha. i normally play for 2 or 3 hours at the most at night after dinner. aww a fresh new start is a good thing ^.^

message 15: by Dhfan4life (new)

Dhfan4life | 1051 comments No idea at all. Haven't really looked at any e-readers in a really long time.

Thanks and keeping that in mind. Oh coolz, additional gaming goodies. And I know, gaming doesn't stop for many folks regardless of the age. I was just saying for me personally I'm over it. Just like cartoons of any kind. Does nada for me these days is all. But yea, I know the cuz still has his grand theft auto and other stuff he plays as well too. But I just get over things after a while when they are no longer working for me. Mhmm, going to do a list of stuff I want to do. And also a list of habits I want to start doing.

message 16: by Angie (new)

Angie | 189 comments Kim got the new $50 kindle. They've changed the names of all of them again. The one she got is called a Fire 7. Then there's a Fire HD 8 I think. And maybe even a 10 inch one. Then there are the ones that are a different type altogether. There's the e-ink one that has a similar screen to what Cherale's nook has I think. Always either a white or green (I'm not sure which) background with black text. The most expensive of that line is called the Voyager I think, but it doesn't seem like it's anywhere worth the amount they want for it. I'm half tempted to buy a new $50 one just because you can add memory with micro SD cards. I have my kindle all kinds of filled up and I don't have all that much on it anymore, except maybe my music, which does take up a lot more space than books. But I love being able to listen to music while I read.

As for gaming, I used to play driving games, then my MonkeyBall on my Wii. I seriously need to check out gazelle.com to see if any of my old systems laying around are worth anything. Plus I could sell the two kindles I have and then buy the cheap one with a memory card
;-)

message 17: by Angie (new)

Angie | 189 comments Oh dang it! I meant to ask a question about the challenge lol!! Does a book I finished this morning count for the challenge even though I didn't sign up for it until this evening? It's okay if it doesn't, because I totally have another book that will count for the same challenge point.

Thanks for the clarification Angie. I totally had no idea. All I knew was Kindle was doing all kinds of stuff.

And alrighty, not sure if this where we can post our challenge books but I think I'm set on what I'm reading!

1.A book you meant to read last year

The Heartbeat Thief by A.J. Krafton *

2.A book with a fairytale setting

Flunked (Fairy Tale Reform School, #1) by Jen Calonita *

3.A book that you started but never finished

Confessions of a Demon (Allay, #1) by Susan Wright *

4.A book either based on Christmas or with a Christmas setting

Snow Job by Delphine Dryden (although I have the original cover one, :D)*

5.Paranormal genre novella

Z (Demonica, #11.7) by Larissa Ione *

6.A book by an author you've never read before

Declaring Spinsterhood by Jamie Lynn Braziel *

7.A book with a mostly blue cover

Invision (Chronicles of Nick, #7) by Sherrilyn Kenyon *

8.A book with a futuristic setting

Mission Menage (Operation Erotic, #1) by Cynthia Sax *

9.A book with a title that begins with the first letter of your first name

Confessions from a Coffee Shop (Confessions, #1) by T.B. Markinson *

10.A book with an assassin character

Bitter Bite (Elemental Assassin, #14) by Jennifer Estep *

11.A book with a mostly green cover

The Lost Sisterhood by Anne Fortier *

12.A mystery book

Through a Glass, Deadly (A Glassblowing Mystery, #1) by Sarah Atwell ?(have a ? mark by that one as I already committed that one to the SBS challenge so not sure if it will get picked or not. But will be reading it either way)*

message 19: by Angie (new)

Angie | 189 comments There's a few categories I wasn't planning on tackling, like the first two, but seeing Cherale's fairytale book, I might have to read it. I've either read that blurb or a blurb for one with teens that's similar, which I might look for instead. I just don't think I could handle Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles, #1) by Marissa Meyer or any of the others in that series. But I still have no book for the first category, because I don't really say okay I'm going to read this by this date, unless of course I read The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot , since I seem to have been promising someone else I'd read it for 6 months or longer. ;-p

I started the first D.I.R.E. Book last night, but I'm not sure I'd consider it futuristic, just maybe fantasy, at least to the point I am at.
(view spoiler) And can one book count for two categories? Because I've never read Joni Hahn before. I guess I plan to read at least the first three, so if one doesn't count, one of the other two will ;-)

message 20: by Dhfan4life (new)

Dhfan4life | 1051 comments Yea, I was debating on Cinder as well, even though it is on my list. Still going to back burner it. I came across this one when I was looking in my library for Flunked, Cinder and Ella by Melissa Lemon

And yea it's well past do on CERTAIN reading materials, miss Angie...*giving you the stink eye, side eye, and evil eye all in one*

And to say the least at least with each challenge I have the majority of the books already too! So woohoo!!!

Dhfan4life | 1051 comments Good choices, and I see Abby Cooper has even stalked me here too, LOL. I was getting recc'd that one like crazy for a while by GR. And hope that Jenny Pox story goes well have that somewhere around my files too. And definitely hope we both enjoy Z. :D

Welps I guess it is a good thing I shared my other '16 challenge list over here. Kim just messaged back that her take is to post the books after we had read them for that particular month. Dude I have so many reads and other junk going on I doubt I will be able to recall everything if I had to keep flipping back and forth between all of them I have listed in various Word docs, lol.

message 34: by Angie (last edited Jul 27, 2016 10:56PM) (new)

Angie | 189 comments I don't have all my books picked out yet, but I'll make sure to tag all of them with my "IBC random challenge" bookshelf. Yay!

1. A book you meant to read in 2015 but didn't:

2. A book with a fairytale setting: (I've given up on the fairytale I think. I do have to read at least one more on the list to finish the challenge, but since i read tons of mysteries, that shouldn't be an issue at all.)

3. A book that you started but never finished: Heir of the Dog (Black Dog, #2) by Hailey Edwards

4. A book either based on Christmas or with a Christmas setting: What the Sleigh? (Paranormal Protection Agency, #10) by Mina Carter

5. Paranormal genre novella: Z (Demonica, #11.7) by Larissa Ione

6. A book by an author you've never read before: Agent I1 Tristan (The D.I.R.E. Agency #1) by Joni Hahn

7. A book with a mostly blue cover: Old Dog, New Tricks (Black Dog, #4) by Hailey Edwards

8. A book with a futuristic theme:: Agent E2 Aidan (The D.I.R.E. Agency #2) by Joni Hahn

9. A book with a title that begins with the same letter as your first name: Allegiance of Honor (Psy-Changeling #15) by Nalini Singh

10. A book with an assassin character: Bitter Bite (Elemental Assassin, #14) by Jennifer Estep

11. A book with a mostly green cover:

12. A mystery book (doesn't matter what kind):

I just have at least 6 more books to pick out, since I figured I would only be able to find 8 books out of the challenge anyway. But I might possibly be able to get all12 done!!

message 35: by Dhfan4life (new)

Dhfan4life | 1051 comments Not sure where else I can put this. But wanted to say great job with the interview sis. Estep is as interesting as ever. Good to know there will be other stories coming out too for the assassin team.

@ angie yay for dire! i saw u liked them as well XD

message 37: by Angie (new)

Angie | 189 comments Amaya, I thought they were really original, but there were a couple things the author used in just about every book that were just awkward. One was "he leaned back his head on his shoulders" or something of that sort. It just didn't read well to me. But little things like that didn't bother me enough to stop me for reading the next one and the next one and the next one! And I'm really looking forward to the novella coming out and then the last novel, the first female super agent!! And you should totally jump in to the Elemental Assassin series! But I will warn you that Estep has a few habits herself that might drive you a little crazy, but if you overlook those, you'll fall into an amazing series that will draw you in and keep you there until you run out of things to read and then you get a series hangover or whatever it's called, where you want nothing more than to keep reading more and more of those characters!!

they areeeeee lmao XD. must of forgot about that bc i havent read em in ages LOL. still never read the 6th book. YES! i cant wait for the last book in the series O_O its like :O! omg the constant repeats drive me crazy in that series rofl but the few books that ive read in the series were really good. its so hard for me to read a regular length book and be done with it quick bc of doing w/e irl so i really just read before going to sleep most of the time tbh. i reserve the zero sleep nights for absolute favorites such as throne of glass series LOL -dead-

message 39: by Angie (new)

Angie | 189 comments The constant recaps finally stop, where if she runs across someone that she met before it would say something like "I had met him when I was on the trail of Mab Monroe, my mortal enemy." So much better than the half a chapter of recaps explaining exactly what has happened to her in the last 6 months or whatever.

Angie | 189 comments I've been editing my comment that had the couple books on it rather than add a bunch more new comments. I won't add a book unless I know for sure that I will be reading it, and I'm trying to make sure I review all the books that I'm adding to the challenge. If anyone can suggest a fairytale book that isn't in the series with Cinder, I'd be grateful. Cherale, what was that fairytale reform school one we were looking at the other day? Man i really don't want to have to look through the 1,000+ books on my tbr list here, plus all the wish list books on Amazon to try to find the one i had been thinking of that was similar!!

You mean Flunked (Fairy Tale Reform School, #1) by Jen Calonita ? Which I just found out yesterday in the giveaways they are freaking up to book two already. So I have to get with the program on reading that thing myself.

I have also seen Cinder and Ella by Melissa Lemon although not a reform school, might be interesting. But(and this isn't even my challenge that I created lol) but I totally give the gold medal to somebody that can find a fairy tale story that does NOT have ties to Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, and what is that other top princess chick? Ah yea, Snow White! I swear, in the last few days alone I've seen various versions and reminders of those stories. I'd love to see another take on Mulan, Princess and the Pea, or somebody out there.

message 44: by Angie (new)

Angie | 189 comments I found this one that looks interesting to a point: Cinderella Ninja Warrior (Twisted Tales, #1) by Maureen McGowan . My problem is 99% of the fairy tales stories I've seen have been YA and I'm just not in the mood for a YA. There seem to be 1000 different variations on Cinder and Ella. Just none of them were hitting my fancy. This will be the one category that I WANT to read but I'll keep putting it off because I can't find this one book that I may have seen or may have made up in my imagination, so it'll be December 30th before I end up reading Flunked lol!!

I'll see what I can dig up. But I think even the adult versions are going to be some version of the other 3 chicks I mentioned.

I found this list but not sure if all of them are quite fairy tale-ish:

Angie | 189 comments I may have found a fairy tale book to read. The Tales of Beedle the Bard , it's the fairy tales of the Wizardinf World that Harry Potter lives in. I own it, but I've never finished it. Oh and it's on a list compiled by goodreads about what's the best fairy tale, whether it be a modern fairy tale, an original story or a retelling of an old fairy tale. I was half a second from picking A Princess Bride, but I decided I'd get stuck and read parts of that one 50 times!! I really love that bad boy!
