Ah but after having lived in all those great places, it cant be so cool to be back in Jhb...

message 105: by Nadine (new)

Nadine | 62 comments Traffic is a real pain, but there was the same in Manila...Europe is cold but at least the homes are made for it.... no sadly I think its the security and latent agression that are the most difficult to bear....

What i would give for some piece of that! I was sitting behind a pile of paperwork today thinking of an island, this comes close lol

message 117: by [deleted user] (new)

An island, or a beach house somewhere warm with the ocean infront of me hehe

message 118: by Anne (new)

Anne Lalor | 38 comments I am sitting at my computer (on the coffee table) looking out my lounge window at a vista of blue and green (green being the trees and blue being the sea and sky. I have a distant sea view but if I stand at the window can see the breakers. Can anyone ask for anything better!

Why you moving to Cape Town?

message 124: by Monique (new)

Monique (moniqueurbanisedgeek) The love of my life is there. :P no really. Plus there is really nothing happening in George. I need city life!

Jan Hurst-Nicholson (janhurst-nicholson) | 60 comments Howzit,
I'm originally from the UK but have lived in Durban since 1972. Love the winter months here, especially the perfume of the Jasmine in August.

Aslong as you have fun novelyear :)

Welcome Jan!

message 127: by [deleted user] (new)

Hey Jan!
The Jasmine is to die for! Its my favorite smell, but the hayfever wont leave me alone :(

Oooh NovelYear, where in Cape Town are you moving to?

message 128: by Monique (new)

Monique (moniqueurbanisedgeek) It seems my Cape Town trip is being postponed a year. I didn't get my spot there for my practical year, so I will be spending a year in the quaint little town of Pince Albert. :)

message 129: by Crusader (new)

Crusader (crusaderza) | 2457 comments Mod
Hey NovelYear,if you mean Prince Albert, that's where I'm located! Quaint and very quiet! What are you going to be doing here?

message 130: by Monique (new)

Monique (moniqueurbanisedgeek) Wow, really? And yes, I did. :) Bad typing!

I will be doing my practical year there for my studies. Working for Renu-Karoo. Really excited to spend time in a little town like that. Get some good reading in when I am off-duty!

message 131: by Crusader (new)

Crusader (crusaderza) | 2457 comments Mod
Well I'm getting lots of reading done when I'm on-duty as well. Then again I'm in retail so there's LOTS of time to sit and read while waiting for customers to come in.

Renu-Karoo. So you'll be working with Sue and Richard Dean.

message 132: by Monique (new)

Monique (moniqueurbanisedgeek) Yes I shall. :) Sadly, reading on-duty will be close to impossible! But I am sure that I will have the time in the evenings to get my fix. Prince Albert doesn't strike me as having any nightlife to speak of. ;)

What sort of retail are you involved in, Crusader?

message 133: by Crusader (new)

Crusader (crusaderza) | 2457 comments Mod
No, it doesn't have much of a nightlife unless you are one of those people who enjoy getting fall-down drunk each night.

I own my own business selling leather products. Actually started working there after finishing school and took it over when the owners decided to retire.

message 134: by Monique (new)

Monique (moniqueurbanisedgeek) I don't really drink much. Not my scene. :)

I think I'll enjoy the quiet. Will be sharing a house with another student, so at least I won't be too lonely. Plus I have a feeling Sue and Richard are going to work me dead everyday!

message 135: by Crusader (new)

Crusader (crusaderza) | 2457 comments Mod
Ha ha, by the looks of the other two students that were here last time I guess it's true. They did look somewhat tired most of the time.

message 136: by Monique (new)

Monique (moniqueurbanisedgeek) Haha, thanks for the encouragement. ;) One thing I can say for sure is I will be ordering books online while I live there! I cannot survive without a bookstore.

message 137: by Crusader (new)

Crusader (crusaderza) | 2457 comments Mod
Yes. Online shopping is the only way to go, unless of course you can bring your year's supply with you.

message 138: by Monique (new)

Monique (moniqueurbanisedgeek) Oh I'll be packing along my favorites as well as a pile I haven't read yet. :) I am planning for it!

message 139: by [deleted user] (new)

What you doing in Ireland? And don't worry you can have all the biltong you want soon :)

message 141: by [deleted user] (new)

My mom lives in Ireland with my stepdad (he's brittish) I figured I should make the best of it so I took a gap year (finished high school in 2009). Good thing I did, though, because if I didn't I don't think I would have started writing. Everything happens for a reason :)

message 142: by Lu (new)

Lu | 12672 comments Mod
