Hey, all, when would we like to read this? I'd love to see us read it on the 13th or so, but I can also try to fit it in earlier or even later in the month.
Krissy wrote: "13th sounds good to me. I'll be listening to the audiobook."Great! I'll be reading the Kindle copy.
I might be a day or 2 behind. It took me too long to get through Winter and because of that I'm about 2 days behind on my buddy reads
Krissy wrote: "I might be a day or 2 behind. It took me too long to get through Winter and because of that I'm about 2 days behind on my buddy reads"That works for me, because one of my buddy reads got moved up! I'm trying to read two books at once right now!
Krissy wrote: "So we'll just leave the date open until we catch up on our current books."Sounds good to me!
And Winter was a complete pain for me too!
I will be able to start in a few hours
I was able to start it last night and got about 25% in...I'm not liking the heroine much right now. I get that she had a dream dashed, but she's not really finding anything good about her current situation. The hero is interesting, very complex.
I've only managed to get to 14%. Feeling pretty meh so far about it. I've listened to this narrator before. I enjoy her character voices but her normal talking voice tends to be a little irritating.
Finished! Okay... well. I didn't love it but I didn't hate it either. It was just okay for me. The author didn't really do well explaining things. It's like blah blah happened then blah blah happened... because I said so. Then the entire section where Ceony was (view spoiler) got really boring to me. To the point that I had a difficult time paying attention to the audiobook. It felt like a huge info dump on Thane's life. I was over it and ready to move on. And the romance aspect.... eh. Didn't buy it. I felt zero chemistry. Zilch. And the scene where she (view spoiler) just felt awkward to me. BUT with all that being said I still plan on reading the entire trilogy. I'm hoping we will get more in depth with the magic. I felt it very unbelievable that Ceony was able to hold her own against whatsherface. Is she supposed to be some secretly powerful paper magician that nobody knows is powerful yet? If so we didn't see anything hinting at that. So maybe the next books will straighten out some of my questions.
I finished this late last week, and I'm with you, Krissy. It was ok, but not great, and I totally agreed with your spoilered comments! I'm going to keep going too, this was a short read and easy to get through. When do we want to try to read the next book next month? In Death goes first of the month and middle, so I'm pretty good with whenever.
Next month sounds good. We won't set a time yet. Let's just wait and check in with the other whenever we're ready
Krissy wrote: "Next month sounds good. We won't set a time yet. Let's just wait and check in with the other whenever we're ready"Sounds like a plan to me!
Could you please PM me when you start the next book? My goodreads notifications arent working properly
Karen wrote: "Could you please PM me when you start the next book? My goodreads notifications arent working properly"We haven't set a time for the next book yet. I'll try to remember to PM you, but I can't guarantee that it will happen.
You should probably get in the habit of checking the threads for the challenges and buddy reads you participate in every couple of days or so, just so you don't miss out on anything. Real life obligations come first is kind of the unwritten rule in the group, and while we all try to carve out a little bit of time for our own tasks on GR, we may not be able to carve out enough time to message you that we're starting a buddy read or challenge that you've asked to participate in. To me, it's kind of understood that the responsibility falls to each participant to know when the challenge or buddy read starts.
Hey, Krissy...wanted to touch base with you, since we're about 5 days out from end of month, are we thinking we'll get to this one this month or do you want to wait and read it in March?
Delitealex wrote: "I'm good for March"Awesome! I hadn't seen you posting when Krissy and I read The Paper Magician, so it never occurred to me to ask you about it! I knew that Karen had wanted us to PM her when we were starting it, so I had figured she'd be ok with whatever we had decided.
Thanks for chiming in!
Cool! I've got the thread signed up for March buddy reads, so I'll just leave the selected book alone and we'll read it next month.
I've asked that the thread be kept open for next month, but has anyone read Glass Magician yet? Do we want that for the April book, or are we ready to move on to Master Magician?
I have downloaded The Glass Magician but haven't started it yet. So I'll be game to start it sometime in the beginning of April
Krissy wrote: "I have downloaded The Glass Magician but haven't started it yet. So I'll be game to start it sometime in the beginning of April"I'm the same, I have it downloaded, but haven't started it. I'm good with beginning of April for sure!
Krissy wrote: "Up to you. I can start it tonight or wait until next month."I can start right now as well, so let's go for it!
I got about halfway through this yesterday, while also making good progress on the other book I'm reading! Emery's a bit of a jerk in this book so far, but I like the suspense angle surrounding Ceony. The different magics are getting interesting!
Oh, I saw on my Kindle notifications the other day that Disney has gotten the rights for this series to be made into movies! What are your thoughts on it? This book is rather dark, so I'm questioning if they should do the movies or not, especially in light of Saraj's magical "talents".
Well, I wound up finishing this last night. I was not impressed. The magical aspect was well done, don't get me wrong, but the ending was very abrupt and I felt that Ceony acted rather stupidly for much of it. I'm OCD enough to read the final book, but from the reviews I read, it will be a frustrating read!
Finished - Ceony is seriously TSTL. I disliked her so much it ruined the entire story for me. I had to force myself to finish. Should I read book 3 just to finish off the trilogy? Honestly, I don't know. I couldn't care less about the outcome of even a single character. Just the thought of having to deal with Ceony and her thoughts again for another book gives me a headache.

Want to play it like we did the Incarnations of Immortality series with me reading it and you checking out my review of the book? That way, you can decide if you want to suffer through it or not, based on my thoughts on it.
Yes. Let me know when you start and give me an update around the halfway mark. Hopefully Ceony isn't as irritating and stupid. Gah. Everything she said or did or even thought annoyed the hell out of me in this book.
