Soo what do you study in Scandinavian Studies? I didn't even know you could study it :P what's so special about it? I knew you could study the Middle East and the Orient and such
My focus is Scandinavian Literature and I am working on becoming fluent in Finnish. I know Finland is not classically part of Scandinavia, but that is where my university put them. I hope to one day use my language skills to translate contemporary Finnish literature into English for an American audience. Despite my lofty goals, I am just getting started. This is my second year at university. So I have a long way to go.
Welcome to TC Anna, Garrett & Kailey. Glad you guys joined us, and thanks for contributing to the discussions.
This is my belated introduction, having already jumped into the perfume thread. So hello, Terminalcoffeeers or -coffeeites or -coffeeans, I'm Jammies, and I'm an underemployed administrative assistant with one dog, one car, one house, two nieces, two nephews, two brothers, two sisters-in-law, two parents and two thousand books.

Carve out a book?Carve out a BOOK?
CARVE OUT A BOOK?
Sarah, you are a heathen.
And the only millions I have are dust molecules and dog hairs.
RA, now you know where her millions are. In the fake book that was not in any way ever a book before it was turned into a hiding place.
They are likewise along all the baseboards, permanently embedded in my fleece blankie, and woven into the upholstery of my car.

But did you use a Dymo labeler?
Hi, I'm Michele. I have already just jumped right in and posted wherever I had something to say. I'm 62 (okay,I'll be 63 Dec.25th) EXPERIENCED (not old) and I live in New Hampshire. I got my first library card before I even started kindergarten. I read at least 1 book a day...I'm intensely curious about the world around me and outside of this house. I live with my former sister and brother in laws &3 cats. I am a survivor of domestic violence that left me w/a few mobility problems &chronic migraines. I am a founding member of the Manchester,NH Women's Crises Service in 1979 now known as the YWCA Crises Service. My keynote speech at the NH Take Back the Night rally in '82 made 13 newspapers including the Boston Globe and yes, I am bragging. It made me a survivor not a victim.

I just want to say welcome to kailey &jammies. hope you have as much fun as I do! Kailey? did you know that people refer to Berkeley as going berserkley (pardon any misspellings)? It's a wonderful place to go to school if you like huge universities (which I do)...I briefly attended a very small (800 students)college in my hometown...I got bored and quit. Major mistake #1...so enjoy.

Well then thanks janine!

I get a lot of the Berzerkeley comments. Sometimes enough of the apathetic middle class kids even earn it! I like it at UC Berkeley a lot. It does not feel like a large university to me because my department is small. I get the resources of a big research university, but within my major I get the small homey feeling. Best of both worlds!
Jim wrote: "Welcome to TC James, I think you will find this a very respectful group."Sure...lure them in, then drop the hammer later. Great plan.
I'm about to give y'all waaaaaaaaayyyyyy too much potential mocking material, but, what the hell, I learned to swim when my aunt threw me in the center of the pool and said, "Swim or drown." You get extra points by not mocking the one-eyed cat or the mommy part. So here's my introduction:Hey, guys, I'm Steve. I just joined this group, and tons of others about books, because I am also addicted to Goodreads and I love discussing books. I'm an avid reader and writer of lots of different things. I like it so much that I think I never do enough of either one, though logically I understand that that couldn't possibly be true. And now, I offer a shameless copy and paste:
Steve Belanger has been writing since he was seven, after he read Stephen King's Carrie and thought: "I can do this." His first published piece, written at the same age, was "A Christmas Carole," a short story inside of a Christmas card, created for his ailing mother. She smiled, and he was hooked. He's writing whenever he's not paying The Man (or is it the other way around?) and he lives with his better half, his greyhound and his one-eyed cat, who somehow still shoots him a wry glance when Steve's being bad. On most days (and nights, and weekends, and holidays, and--) he's hunched over his office desk, writing stories or novels, pounding the internet pavement, preparing story submissions for magazine editors and novel packages for agents, or pouring over papers and plans for his day job. And over-alliterating the letter P. He also eats and sleeps, on occasion. He enjoys baseball and breathing, when he has the time, and he's finishing his Masters.
Thanks for the chance to stand in front of the mike. There's a link to a spec. fiction short story soon to be published by Space and Time Magazine, and the Prologue and Chapter One of my first completed mystery novel, Cursing the Darkness. Oh, and I teach English, so I'll have a LOT of book recommendations and such. And I'm terse. Thanks again, guys.

All we have to do is click on the links, Steven, and we'll get all of that valuable info. As you can see as you peruse TC, self-promotion is de rigeur here.
Uh, did you post those elsewhere too, Steve? I'm tempted to delete them, but from what I saw when I skimmed your super long and personal post, I'd feel badly deleting it.
awkward. maybe we need some TC guidelines like Clark's rocker chick thread is Clark's rocker chick - like it or leave it. Decontextualized quotes are just that. pimp yourself sparingly. etc.

See? Ms Petra gets it.
See? Ms Petra gets it.
Sorry about that, guys. It's an automatic signature. I'll fix that. See below: nothing there! My apologies again.
Oh my God, it is automatic. I see what you mean.
