MCLS Staff are invited to participate in an informal, year-long reading challenge designed to get you reading out of your comfort zone. You can participate as much or as little as you like. As you finish reading something from a category listed below, email the title and author to me at puttaro@libraryweb.org. I will collect entries and do a drawing each month for a $25 Barnes & Noble or Amazon gift card.

Feel free to share and discuss your reading in this group. My wish is that this group become a valuable readers advisory tool for all MCLS staff.

Happy reading!

Diane Premo | 23 comments This is probably a silly question, but what exactly is a "classic?" Is it a book of a certain time period (e.g., over 100 years old) or a modern book that has become part of our culture, such as The Catcher in the Rye or The Grapes of Wrath?

It is whatever you want it to be.

Diane Premo | 23 comments Great! As long as it's not Ulysses...

Chad Cunningham | 12 comments It's totally Ulysses. That category should just be called "Yo, read Ulysses".

There are so many, it's probably easier to google nypl reading lists.

Jason (82jp) | 23 comments So, does the fact that "read a graphic novel" is a separate category mean I can't read graphic novels that fit in other categories? :)

Nope. It's all up to you.

So I went looking and here is a webpage from NYPL that offers book list recommendations and staff pick lists. http://www.nypl.org/browse/recommenda...

Emily (emnylibrarian) | 30 comments I was playing in Google Docs, because I'm the kind of person who likes a list they can check off. MCLS Google Doc Checklist. You are welcome to copy the worksheet or download it and use as you wish. :)
