SOLVED. Lion King series - Not movie based book. [s]

I recently learned that the Disney version of The Lion King had a companion series of books that I believe came out at the time of the movie. I think they were small novels and they held additional information including *spoiler* how Scar got the nickname Scar, and how him and Mufasa grew up. It also apparently tells the information as to Scars real name, his parents etc.
This is not the movie novella. I don't know who they were written by or what the series is under. Looking up the name The Lion King just brings me to the children books and the movie companion.
