David | 3 comments This was a series of books I read about 10-12 years ago. At the time the books might have been 10-15 years old, so I assume they were written in the late 80's or early 90's.

I remember at least 4 books but I believe there were more. I do not know if the series was completed (I hope it was). The first book started with the return of (one of the main characters in the series) from a long exile to another land. While there he learned that lands swordsmanship.

Over the course of the books he befriends the other main characters. A woman and a man. these 3 have to fight some sort of evil in the land.

In the 2nd or 3rd (might have been a latter book) there is a volcano who the locals worship as a god. the locals do a type of human sacrifice to the volcano so it wont erupted. during one of these times, the man ends up jumping in for some reason and becomes reborn as its chosen one (or profit maybe).

Inside this world the system of magic that is used is an elemental one. Earth, air, fire and water. So the man that became the volcano's profit (??) I want to say was able to start using fire magic (??).

I also want to say in the 4th(+) book, there is a boy character that is imprisoned in a fortress made under water with the water magic (walls made of solid water).

Sword-Dancer

David | 3 comments @Lou, Thanks, but that is not the book. The swordsman is a man, and I want to say his name started with a J but I am most likely wrong about that.

Lou Rocama | 457 comments Alas.

Although Tiger IS a man. Del just happens to be on the cover of the first book.

David | 3 comments @Lou Sorry i miss-read the thing, as Tiger using magic and Del being the warrior

Edit:
And after reading a quick sample of it, alas it is not the book I am looking for.
