Despite the clouds, we watched the SpaceX Falcon 9 launch from our front yard this evening. The clouds kept me from getting a decent photo. All the same, this was one of the most exciting launches I’ve witnessed.
They succeeded in bringing the first-stage booster back to land at Cape Canaveral. They converted one of the older launch pads into a landing pad.
From where we watched, we could see the rocket descending through the atmosphere. It glowed orange. I couldn’t believe we were actually seeing this through the clouds! Then came the sonic boom announcing success.

This was a first.
This was exciting!
