I read this several years ago and am trying to remember the title. This book is about a small team of astronauts, about half were women, who travel to another inhabited planet. They establish communication and have quite a good experience. One of the highlights of the book was the relationship between one of the native inhabitants (male) and a female astronaut (not romantic), and it set the stage for future travel between the planets.

I remember the cover being similar to "Aurora," but that is not the book I'm looking for. I remember a woman's face, and that may have been one of several editions.

Space by James A. Michener? I'm guessing this is what you mean by the Aurora cover.

Debbie, around what year did you read this book?

Do the astronauts encounter any problems?
Have they been away from Earth for a long time?

Hi Kri- unfortunately that's not it. I read this book within the last two years.

I don't remember how long they were away. One significant problem was fuel or some kind of natural resource needed for their ship. . They discovered that they could use material from a rock that they landed on or nearby and the rock had some kind of spiritual or ceremonial significance to the native inhabitants.
