Your Prediction of the Ending?

So I'm curious, for those that didn't predict what actually happened, how did you initially think the book was going to end? Here is my prediction, I had fragments of stuff throughout various points within the book, but once she said there was a fire, this is the whole of what I thought had happened prior to knowing the truth.

So they go on with the fire to save their families relationships. Throughout the story I had this strong feeling that Gat had done something to Cadence based of his actions, and saying he shouldn't be around her, and if only she knew what he'd done. So the four of them in my prediction are putting gasoline on the outside of the house, (because who would really do it on the inside?) and the house goes up in flames and Cady freaks out. She runs off, terrified of what they have just done and Gat goes running after her. They start walking off and away from the house, towards the water. She is yelling that it was a stupid plan, and Gat tries to comfort her by saying its to save the family, and to save their own relationship. Then Cadence makes a smart comment back to Gat about Raquel. Gat is in disbelief, and then he tries to hug her but she shoves him away, hard. He keeps coming closer and she keeps pushing him back, until he really tries to grab her and she backs away, not realizing how close to the edge they were, and she falls down the cliff, hitting her head on some rocks on the way down and landing in the water. After the accident, the whole family has it in their minds that Gat pushed Cadence off the ledge, even though no one will outright say it, and even he begins to think he's done it, which is why he reacts the way he does around her initially. It was also part of the explanation as to why Johnny, Gat, and the other cousin wouldn't go to eat with the family, because the family ostracized Gat and felt uncomfortable whenever he was around.

The problem with this book is that I always had in my head that they were dead, it became very predictable that part, did not know what it was like and she had died. Several theories crossed my mind, the only successful was that they were dead and they had torched the house, but I do not imagine how it came and unless she was involved in that way.
I think there were several points to realize they were dead, i don't know, it became very predictable that.

Hannah That's awesome that you figured it out though! I didn't even consider there would be any kind of supernatural elements to the story. ...more

This is one of the only books I've read where I wasn't constantly theorizing about what was going to happen. I was just sir absorbed. I didn't see the ending coming at all. For a fairly intuitive person and being good at guessing plot twist like that, it made the reveal even more surprising to me, I loved it!

I'm not sure about my theory. Based on the title and the blurb on the inside cover, I assumed that maybe the whole book was some kind of lie. That the narrator was twisting everything and creating something false. I don't know...

Your theory is awesome though.
