Let's see what the competition is going to look like! ;) How many books did you finish this year?

message 2: by Bo (new)

Bo Burnette (boburnette) | 5 comments I've read 99, so I'm on track for 102 or so by the new year!

message 3: by Lucy (new)

Lucy Buller (lucybuller) I have finished 214 books this year.

message 4: by Luke (new)

Luke Taylor I read 51 of 52. I thought one a week would be a good idea, but I started the challenge too late. However, 100 in 2016 is a great idea, since I have some books I've been eager to read and should gobble them up in a day or two. :)

message 5: by Silje-Mari (new)

Silje-Mari (magiie) I've read about 97, but I'll probably finish a few more before new years, since christmas is a super relaxed time of year for me :)

message 6: by Debbie (new)

Debbie Sue | 1 comments Havent kept track but way more than 100

message 7: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa (elfthryth_) | 1 comments I read 81 books this year, not as much as last year as I read 95 books, but I did beat this years 80 book goal by one.

message 8: by Rachael (new)

Rachael Ritchey (rachaelritchey) | 1 comments I read six books in 2015 outside my own this year, so the challenge is going to be a tough one for me! :)

message 9: by Heather (new)

Heather (bookwormh190) | 3 comments I've read 50 and some odd books this year, which is up majorly for me from the last couple of years, but down from my teen years when I would read much more. Looking forward to the challenge of doubling this year's reading!

message 10: by Lindsay (new)

Lindsay (ltg584) | 6 comments I hope I'm not intruding in this group, but I love a challenge! I usually read about 125 books each year, but I have a few extra life challenges over the next year. I'll need the extra motivation to keep reading ;)

message 11: by Anneke (new)

Anneke (nedyfay) | 0 comments I've read 82 book so far. Guessing it'll be 85 or 86 before New Year's Eve. 100 will be a challenge, but not an impossible one.

message 12: by Linda (new)

Linda | 1 comments I read 130 books in 2015. I planned to read the Man Booker long list and the national book award long list. So I did read some of the best books of the year. I beleive reading books is one of the great gifts of life and encourage all my family and friends to READ, it changes your life.

That *has* to be a goodreads record or something!

message 14: by Siv (new)

Siv (minnea) Not sure, was going to keep track but lost it somewhere during summer... Probably around one a week.

message 15: by Ree (new)

Ree | 1 comments I have to go back and record what I have read this past year. I estimate one per week, so obviously I need to step it up. This is just fun! Thanks for the challenge, K.M.!

message 16: by Chad (new)

Chad Hoblitz (codewitch) | 9 comments I have read 37 so far this year. The least amount for me ever although this year I read more games then usual.

message 17: by LittleBookDruid (new)

LittleBookDruid | 9 comments I have done reading 101 books this year. But am planning to add up at least five until the new year. ;)
Although this year was super busy with a large move and NaNos.
I read next to nothing last month. :D

message 18: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin Thomas | 104 comments What's up peeps? Are you ready to read in 2016?
Welcome to the 100 book reading challenge!

You guys are quite prolific. Can't say that I read as many books as the rest of the gang here. But nevertheless, I'm up for the challenge. It should be very fun. Getting way TOO EXCITED. Still scouting books to add to my readers hit list.

Thanks everyone!
Thanks KM!

Have fun.

Benjamin

Wombat Hmm ,i'm at 71 so far, and probably end up at 72 or 73 for this year. Doesn't sound like so much but that includes "lord of the Rings" as one book. A bunch of Sanderson novels (which are doorstoppers) and giants like the Mahabharata :)

Benjamin Thomas | 104 comments It's complete! My readers hit list for 2016! Whew hew!
I'm pumped! New year, here we come!

In NaNoWriMo, it's all about building up your word count, preferably to 50,000 words in 30 days. It's all about words written. Write. Write. Write. But I wonder how many words will be read collectively in this years 100 book reading challenge. Sweet huh? Yup. Read, read, read. Time to do some serious eyeguzzling.

Here's my list if you want to take a peak:

See ya!

message 21: by Luke (new)

Luke Taylor Hi everybody! I started a poll to see what everybody's favorite book was in 2015. Granted, it must be a book released in 2015! The poll should be done in late February, when we can see who won. :D

message 22: by Greg (new)

Greg Smith I'm about the same as Rachel, 1/2 dozen or so. 100 would be really daunting, but I have a lot of research to do in the coming months, as well as catching up on other studies, so this is a bonus. If you're going to run might as well compete to get a prize.

I know what you mean. I'll be reading The Wheel of Time this year (hopefully one book a month) and I really want to re-read Lord of The Rings but I have it in the omnibus edition and that's no small commitment.

message 24: by April (new)

April Brown (uncoveredmyths) Hello. I've spent the last year or so moving from the sighted/hearing world to the deafblind world.

I've missed reading, and since braille is now easier than print, that is how I will be reading in the future.

Braille books take up a lot of space. And few are in hard copy. I think the numbers are close to 15% of traditionally published novels.

However, with my braille display, I can read any ebook in braille format.

I used to read a book a day, back 30+ years ago.

I am not even sure I completed one in the last year, due to my vision issues. Other than course materials, of course. I read "A Wrinkle In Time" in braille between December and January last year. I can't remember if it was two, or three large volumes.

At his point, simpler reading in braille is easier. Give me a year, and I hope to move onward to more advanced braille.

Oh, and the whole US braille world is switching to an updated symbol system. And I only learned the new one. Been trying to back track a bit, as I know many brailled items will be in the old code for decades to come.

I'm honestly hoping for 20 books this year.

Though I research frequently online.

message 25: by Wombat (new)

Wombat April - thats awesome. I wouldn't even know where to start on learning braille.
Are there programs that convert text to braille on the fly? So you could read any ebook as braille?

There are some expensive machines that will convert text to a file that can be read by a braille display. And by expensive - I mean $1,000 to $5,000. A few phone apps do okay for some things like business cards and such. They range from free to over $100.

Any ebook can be read by my braille display.

I'm in the same boat as you. But ready for the challenge. I've always wanted to dive headfirst into the books I desired to read. This will be a great start! Plus it's great for writing.

I know. I'm with ya. I've got about 3 books I'd like to finish before the end of the year!

message 33: by Ardani (new)

Ardani Subagio (AuthorDani) | 2 comments What a coincidence. I do intend to read 100 book in 2016.

I'm reading around 60 books this year. There are a couple I haven't add, but I'll be sure to do so before the year ends.

message 34: by Chickadee (new)

Chickadee Chad wrote: "I have read 37 so far this year. The least amount for me ever although this year I read more games then usual."

I'm glad I'm in the 30+ category with you Chad! I've only read 33 this year. Maybe 34 books if I can finish the book I just started.

2015 was a busy year, so I'm hoping to reach (or at least get close) the 100 books goal!

message 35: by Jessica (last edited Dec 28, 2015 08:34PM) (new)

Jessica (jessical1961) I am currently sitting at 99 books this year. I started with a goal of 52 for the year but by June I was already 11 books ahead of schedule so I upped the goal to 74. I passed that number back around September. Next year I hope to do at least 104.

message 36: by Megan (new)

Megan McCarthy (austendumas) | 2 comments I'm at 37, but have definitely read many more. I tend to not count books I read for business or school purposes, like the handful of marketing books I devoured this year. I'm also not counting the books I've read in Italian-mostly children's books to help me learn the language.

message 37: by Joshua (new)

Joshua Hutchinson (joshuahutchinson) | 2 comments 202 books. 58,000 pages. But I'm in bed most days, so I've got extra time.

message 38: by Mary (new)

Mary Love | 2 comments 55. I need this motivation!

message 39: by Randy (new)

Randy Tramp | 3 comments I read 113 books last year. A few were short stories.

message 40: by Faith (new)

Faith (faithblum) | 7 comments According to Goodreads, I've read 106, but I have 3.5 I haven't put on here yet.

message 41: by Hannah (last edited Dec 29, 2015 09:37AM) (new)

Hannah (bookwormhannah) | 21 comments Made 210 so far. Still have several reviews to add, though.

It's always nice to have a group to go for numbers of books with!

message 42: by Helen (new)

Helen | 18 comments I read about 82 books in 2014 and only 65 in 2015 - and I have to confess some of those were picture books which don't count in this challenge. I have to read those for work at the library, as well as to keep abreast of the competition as I'm writing a series of picture books. So, I'm going to have to up my game considerably if I'm to come even close. Audiobooks do count though, don't they? I like to have one to listen to on my iPad on the bus to work and in my lunch break. I assume the start date is Jan 1st, but is that to start the first book, or do books we're reading now but finish on Friday count?

Welcome, all you new guys! You're all impressive!

message 44: by TM (new)

TM | 3 comments I'm at a little over 200 books this year, will probably finish at 203 or 204.

message 45: by Richard (new)

Richard Mansel | 1 comments 130 books in 2015.

message 46: by Daniel (new)

Daniel | 2 comments I just finished my hundredth, though some were chapter-less short stories.

message 47: by Tricia (new)

Tricia | 2 comments I haven't made a habit of listing the books that I read, so hopefully that will change in 2016. Most of my reading for 2015 has been Lucy Maud Montgomery--I read the entire "Anne" series for the first time in my life, plus most of her short stories and another novel called, "The Blue Castle".

"Storming" is the first one on my list for next year!

WOWSERS! Definitely impressive. I think anything in the 150 to 200+ range is absolutely jawdropping. I wish I could read that fast! Sure you're a cyborg? :)

message 50: by Meggan (new)

Meggan 62 this year - I used to average 150 plus a year but work keeps interfering.
Also read quite a large amount of short stories this year.
