You're Never Weird on the Internet (Almost) by Felicia Day - Restarting May 20th 2016
unfortunately I already started this before knowing there was going to be a buddy read soon but I will slow down so I can still follow the discussion. I am definitely enjoying it so far though! Felicia cracks me up!
I just saw that this is on here, been meaning to read it, so this is a good time i guess. We should have some discussion questions to steer the conversation. does anyone have any ideas, at least for the books 1st chapter?
Going to pick this up at the library sometime this week so I will hopefully be joining in on this! There are a few other books on my immediate TBR but the 24 in 48 readathon is also this weekend, so maybe I'll speed through them! :P
p. 60: Felicia Day's memoir is making me laugh so much. Her childhood is full of so many ridiculous moments!
p90: I'm loving this a lot. I didn't know very much about Felicia going into this book and I'm enjoying her writing and sense of humour a lot! It's quite amusing and she's had quite a unique childhood and teenage years. What do you guys know Felicia from?

my personal life philosophy is always to assume the worst, then you’re never disappointed.
That is something you would say Felica

I've also seen her in some of Will Wheaton's TableTop gaming vids--which she's hilarious in.
p. 115: "When we graduate from childhood into adulthood, we're thrown into this confusing, Cthulhu-like miasma of life, filled with social and career problems, all with branching choices and no correct answers. Sometimes gaming feels like going back to that simple kid world. Real-life Felicia wasn't getting more successful, but I could channel my frustration into making Keelerette an A-list celebrity warlock, thank you very much!"
^Man, I can relate to this on soooo many levels.
I began to love her when I saw her as Charlie on Supernatural as well. When she first appeared I thought "where do I recognize this girl from?" and I realized I had seen her around Youtube and I've seen snippets of The Guild before (that Do You Wanna Date My Avatar song haha).
p179: I can identify so much with Felicia on the whole video game thing. I used to come on to the computer all day to play video games, and would keep playing for as long as I was able to. At one point I was staying up to 4 or 5 am to keep playing because I was so obsessed. That was before high school started getting more serious, and thankfully that was only during the summer and once school was getting more busy I learned to stop playing so much. It's also interesting learning how social media used to be. Personally, I was always late to every social media and the only one I use (barely) anymore is Tumblr.
p213: The story of her success is pretty inspiring. This girl who went to Hollywood with no experience and went through ups and down and still came out on top. It's amazing, since so much of the world knows her now. Definitely a role model in my eyes.
I listen to the audio of this, well worth it :D i went into the book having no clue who this person is... never seen her before (Don't shot me but i've never seen supernatural, nor eureka, nor buffy)
Done: I really loved that! Surprisingly I've never seen The Guild and now I feel like I need to watch it when I get the chance. This was my first autobiography and I didn't think I would enjoy it so much. I always thought of Felicia as a humorous person and it definitely comes across in her writing.
I get my copy later from my library.
Beginning of chapter 9: I've actually not watched any of Felicia's The Guild, though I follow her Geek & Sundry account on YouTube. The way she describes in the book makes me think it would be worth a good laugh. I love that she manages to find the motivation to write her TV series and then see it through. I really like that's it written in a way, however, that doesn't just say "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" but instead focuses on, "this was a real struggle for me but I got through it."
Of course, I am absolutely thrilled that she didn't give into some a-hole TV producers and stuck to her guns until another solution came along. Yay internets! XD
Finished! (view spoiler)
I really enjoyed this memoir--I haven't been big on reading autobiographies lately and this reminds why they can be fantastic!

Starting early! :DOkay. So, a random confession:
I've never heard Felicia Day's name before I picked up this book. Yeah, never.
(In case you haven't already guessed this, yeah, I'm quite lacking in general knowledge, sometimes. *kicks self*)
Finished: (view spoiler)And I enjoyed this memoir. A lot. If only Felicia Day wrote all nonfiction...

Same :) I have never heard of her until I saw this book at the library. However, it seemed interesting and I decided to pick it up to read.

The Internet isn’t all cat videos. There’s also Felicia Day—violinist, filmmaker, Internet entrepreneur, compulsive gamer, hoagie specialist, and former lonely homeschooled girl who overcame her isolated childhood to become the ruler of a new world... or at least semi-influential in the world of Internet Geeks and Goodreads book clubs.
After growing up in the south where she was "home-schooled for hippie reasons", Felicia moved to Hollywood to pursue her dream of becoming an actress and was immediately typecast as a crazy cat-lady secretary. But Felicia’s misadventures in Hollywood led her to produce her own web series, own her own production company, and become an Internet star.
Felicia’s short-ish life and her rags-to-riches rise to Internet fame launched her career as one of the most influential creators in new media. Now, Felicia’s strange world is filled with thoughts on creativity, video games, and a dash of mild feminist activism—just like her memoir.
Hilarious and inspirational, You’re Never Weird on the Internet (Almost) is proof that everyone should embrace what makes them different and be brave enough to share it with the world, because anything is possible now—even for a digital misfit.
