Christina McMullen (cmcmullen) Love it or hate it, it looks like we have a new theme. I'm personally torn in that the discussion threads look slick, but my author dashboard is now an eye strain.

Regardless, this is your free pass to rage about it without worry. (Within reason, of course, no actual abuse please!)

Let the eff-yous begin!

No issues here, but that could be because of my bionic eyes. . .uh, I mean. . .

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

All that can be said for it is that it's different. Not better, just different. I'm still evaluating whether or not to be mad about it. I haven't been mad about anything else today--yet--so maybe this is it.

See, now that just looks like someone was typing with my tablet. My bottom row is always in danger of being space-barred.

No, that isn't a euphamism, I swear!

message 7: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Emme (Lisa_Emme) | 212 comments OTG....I was beginning to wonder what the heck was up with my view of GR and what I had done to screw it up. Glad it's not me....jury is still out on the new look.

Micah Sisk (micahrsisk) | 1042 comments Yuck.

That's all. Just...yuck.

message 9: by Christina (new)

Christina McMullen (cmcmullen) Oh, and just in case my posting this has caused further confusion, a special blanket statement in all caps needs to be made:

SUPPORT FOR INDIE AUTHORS IS NOT GOODREADS

WE DIDN'T CHANGE THE LAYOUT

WE ARE NOT AFFILIATED WITH THE GOODREADS SITE

WE ARE JUST ONE OF MILLIONS OF GROUPS HOSTED ON THIS SITE

There. Hopefully that clears things up.

message 10: by Quoleena (new)

Quoleena Sbrocca (qjsbrocca) Like Garth of Wayne's World said, "Change? We fear change."

Therefore, Christina, can you please change it back to the way it was? Thanks in advance!

message 11: by Micah (new)

Micah Sisk (micahrsisk) | 1042 comments He he. "It's not our fault!"

On the official thread about it I said I felt like I'm talking to my dog:

"Bad font! Bad, bad, BAD font!"

I thought I'd let you know that you keep going up my cool meter, almost every day.

Aw shucks! Glad you appreciate my dorky humor.

message 14: by Joe (new)

Joe Jackson (shoelessauthor) Everything looks like it was printed from a printer that needs a new toner cartridge. Very difficult to read.

message 15: by Hákon (new)

Hákon Gunnarsson | 53 comments I actually like it so far at least.

message 16: by Hákon (new)

Hákon Gunnarsson | 53 comments One thing though, has it got brighter in here? Looking at the screen seems to put more strain on my eyes than usual.

message 17: by Micah (new)

Micah Sisk (micahrsisk) | 1042 comments The "brightness" is a result of this horrible font. It's too small and too thin. That and the change in font color (for parts of the page) to some perverted mix of green and blue.

Zooming in to 115% seems to help some, but of course that will mess up other web sites.

Ouf you made it hard for me to read! I can read back word, and in a mirror, and with numbers instead of letters, but this? I had to stop and think about it.

Christina, do you mean this is the new font? It's the first thread I see with this font.. what happened?

EDITED: NM they all have that font suddenly. I DON'T LIKE IT! :/ It's hard on the eyes.

message 19: by T.R. (last edited Dec 15, 2015 01:09PM) (new)

T.R. Briar (trbriar) | 58 comments It looks like they didn't do anything but change the fonts. (and not for the better.) It looks really unprofessional and some of the text is sort of blobby at smaller sizes.

It honestly doesn't bother me, either. It's different. Not better, not worse, just different.

message 23: by Rachael (new)

Rachael Eyre (rachaeleyre) | 194 comments It's a bit blocky and displeasing, but like the many Facebook / Twitter changes, we're bound to adjust before long.

message 24: by Joe (new)

Joe Jackson (shoelessauthor) They fixed it so the letters all look complete again in Firefox. I liked the old style better, but it's legible again for me.

message 25: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Jensen (kdragon) | 469 comments Not too fond of how tiny the font is on my dashboard. I like big font and I cannot lie.

message 26: by Micah (last edited Dec 15, 2015 03:22PM) (new)

Micah Sisk (micahrsisk) | 1042 comments Yeah, looks like they upped the default font size. Still looks bad IMHO.

This font looks like it was chosen by someone who just now realized you could change font styles on a web page so they're showing off how clever they are.

•To enhance the readability of text on Goodreads, we’ve adopted two new open-source fonts. Lato, our sans-serif font, was designed by Warsaw-based designer Łukasz Dziedzic (“Lato” means “Summer” in Polish). Merriweather, our serif font, was created by Eben Sorkin and was designed to be pleasant to read on screens.

Yeah, I beg to differ on the readability bit.

Lol...thanks for making me laugh:)

message 28: by G.G. (new)

G.G. (ggatcheson) | 2491 comments I prefer with serif over sans. Even when reading paperbacks. I don't know why but sans-serif gives me trouble.

Still...I hate changes. I'd prefer the original one. They'll wait until everyone gets used to the new to change it again. :>

message 29: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Siegrist (amandasiegrist) | 190 comments Not sure whether I like it or not. It's okay. Why fix it if nothing's wrong with it? At least, nothing looked wrong to me...

message 31: by Tony (new)

Tony Skye (tonycskye) | 90 comments It does seem a bit off for some reason. I started squinting while reading these posts. It might have something to do with being on the pc all day, but never seemed to be a problem before now. Could be the change in font style/color, but not sure. I might be just full of crap.

message 32: by Christina (new)

Christina McMullen (cmcmullen) The background is all white too, which accounts for the brightness in here. The old site was more of a beige color. I havent run into the blobby letter issue, but I haven't run the mobile site, app, or anuthing other than Chrome on my tablet.

message 33: by Christina (new)

Christina McMullen (cmcmullen) But at least I now know why every other refresh for the last two weeks has triggered an unexpected error.

message 36: by Rachael (new)

Rachael Eyre (rachaeleyre) | 194 comments Yes, I miss the beige background. White feels too clinical.

message 37: by April (new)

April Wilson (aprilwilson) Shoot me, I like it. More white space, cleaner interface, new font. What's not to like? Yay!
