It's time to nominate themes for our January 14- March 14 Group Read!
The theme can be a particular tale or myth, or an idea. Feel free to re-nominate some of the past nominations that did not win last time. You can also nominate something that is in the 2016 Challenge.
Polls will go up in one week.

I'm going to steal one from the 2016 challenge: 5.A book that makes use of the stories surrounding one of the world's major religions (i.e. Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, Islam)

Leah (flying_monkeys) | 1009 comments Physical transformations: people, animals, or objects.

message 5: by Monica (new)

Monica Davis The reading time frame fits with something leading up to a Celtic flair. (If more specific to narrow the topic, how about Leprechauns.)

Keeping with Monica's idea, how about something with Irish Heroes like the Red Branch?

Could there be a theme that could work in both ideas?

Irish Myths Legends and Folklore!"

Celtic would be broader because it would include Celtic myths, legends and folklore in the UK and Brittany in France.

Christine (chrisarrow) | 1393 comments Mod
Well Celtic depends on what theme you want. I was thinking an exclusive Irish one.

message 13: by Virginia (new)

Virginia | 24 comments I'm keen on Irish folklore. I'd definitely participate this time :-)

I like all the nominations so am going to refrain from nominating anything else for now.
So would those of you who nominated Irish Legends and Mythology like to keep it Irish or include Celtic?

message 15: by Monica (new)

Monica Davis I'll go for Irish, but would like folklore included as well as myths and legends.

Okay, we have:
Dragons (Mary)
Major World Religions (Margaret)
Physical transformations: people, animals, or objects.(Leah)
Folklore, Mythology,Fairy Tales and Legends of Ireland (Monica,Chris,Virginia)
And I just need clarification for:

Shomeret wrote: "Celtic would be broader because it would include Celtic myths,legends..."

Shomeret, do you still want to nominate Celtic?

Ellen wrote: "Slavic Folklore or Norse mythology"

Ellen, would you like Slavic OR Norse?

Are there any more nominations?

message 21: by Shomeret (new)

Shomeret | 286 comments No, I didn't want to nominate Celtic. I was simply pointing out the difference between Celtic and Irish as a theme. Monica's original nomination utilized the term Celtic.

message 22: by Lacey (new)

Lacey Louwagie | 236 comments I'd like to nominate sci-fi retellings -- I'm thinking stuff like Stitching Snow, Cinder, A Long, Long Sleep, etc. Fairy tales/myths/legends that take place in the future or in dystopia/postapocalyptic worlds, space, etc.

I'll put the poll up tomorrow morning.

Here's what I have so far:
Dragons (Mary)
Major World Religions (Margaret)
Physical transformations: people, animals, or objects.(Leah)
Folklore, Mythology,Fairy Tales and Legends of Ireland (Monica,Chris,Virginia)
Sci-Fi retelligns (Lacey, Jane)

Ellen, did you want to nominate Slavic folklore or Norse folklore? You can only nominate one theme. If I don't hear from you in time I'll pick one of the two for you.

Here's the poll!

Ellen, I picked Slavic folklore since we just read The Gospel of Loki and it's been about a year since we've had anything inspired by Slavic folklore as a group read.
