For Cat 2, I'm going to second American Born Chinese, and add the other possibilities of:Emma, Volume 1 which is NOT a retelling of Austen, but is about a Victorian maid, so it would be good for those who wanted something classic-era, which got a lot of votes (or for those that are afraid all GNs are about superheroes)
The Complete Persepolis, which is just fantastic.
and
Maus I A Survivor's Tale My Father Bleeds History, which will please those that voted WWII, and would make an interesting cross-read after The Book Thief.
I really hope we get some more nominations soon. Fiona, do you think if you sent out a group message more people would nominate?
can't disappoint April!Cat. 1 - The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, because everyone that hasn't read it needs to in anticipation of the sequel coming out Sept. 1st!

Ooh, yay! I've been wanting to read that.
category 2: Fables bk 1 (or any of the others) by Bill Willingham or another vote for Persepolis (I read bk 1, but really liked it)I don't know how the market is in the UK, but here in the U.S., graphic novels are one the areas of growth for YA lit, so I like that category choice. I just started reading graphic novels this year because of my students!
Jo wrote: "I thought that Coraline was a normal book"Yes, it was one of his first kids' books, I believe, other than anthology type stuff like M is for Magic.
However, with its popularity, a graphic novel version was made, maybe due to Gaiman's Sandman roots, though don't quote me on that. Oh, and now there's the movie as well :)
The Coraline link in post 20 is the GR info for the comic.
Here's the Amazon link for the comic if you're interested regardless of votes: Coraline the graphic novel

Interesting info! Thanks for sharing!

Oops. Yeah, that's the Emma I was saying it is not a retelling of... All fixed now.
I cringe anytime I have a new message from you no matter what it is....kidding. I think its a great way to remind people! If they don't want to be a part of the group they shouldn't be in it, and messages regarding polls aren't SPAM.
...at least that is my opinion.
Heather wrote: "I actually like getting a message saying when the polls are open. I never seem to remember when nominations end, so it helps me to know when to go and vote. I think it's helpful - not spam-ish. "I agree! I managed to miss the July (or June?) voting because I didn't check back during the right time frame. Updates would be welcome.

I don't mind a bit. Email away!
I haven't become very involved yet but I did want to let you know that reminders about the polls are fine with me.
Since I am new this month to the book of the month reading process, do most people just pick one of the two to read and discuss? Will there be a posting discussion for each book? Thank you for the info...
Yay! Both of these are already on my tbr AND they're currently in at my local library. Let's hope they're still in after I wake up this afternoon...
My library just bought two more copies of The Hunger Games! Yay! They're still in cataloging, but I'm next in line! (They're being classified as "Juvenile Fiction" though... Odd, I think!) I've heard the book is amazing though, so I'm really looking forward to it!

The library branch near my parents' house didn't have a copy of Hunger Games, but the librarian was very nice and directed me to a branch that did.Unfortunately, the other branch had different hours, and I showed up just as it closed! :(
I wondered if someone would check it out before I got there today, but I was the first to ask! Phew! On Chapter 3 now.
I love that as readers, we all panic when we're on our way to get a book, like "What if someone beats me to it?" Cause really, what are the odds? But because we are obsessive and reading is urgent, we assume it is for the rest of the world...funny.
Hunger Games actually was gone when I got to the library! I requested it from another branch though and should get it next week. I'll work on Maus in the meantime.
LOL, Misty. It is pretty silly in retrospect, but I actually got up early so that I could get all my morning chores done and get out the door to the library! And, kind of a shock because I haven't done this in some time, I read it straight through! Wow, it was really good. HP5 is probably the last book I did that with. Oh, wait no. *slightly embarrassed* It was Twilight.
In any case, JG, if you were in Asheville, you could have my copy!
