Ryan | 6 comments I read this book probably more than 12 years ago. I have no idea when it was published.
SPOILER

It's about a group of children that find (maybe encouraged to use) these simulators, when they lay inside they're transported to a strange yet beautiful world. Food and water is plenty, the weather is nice, they enjoy the simulation more than reality. Slowly, this changes. The weather isn't always agreeable, game becomes scarce, recourse are thin. I think one of them gets sick. Eventually they find they're no longer able to leave the simulation; in fact, it's no longer a simulation at all. Unbeknownst to any of them, the simulations had been to prepare them for an alien world, one which they are now expected to inhabit.

bookel | 4027 comments Is that it? :)
I suggested it solely from the subject line... didn't read your entire post until afterwards. It is a very popular book. Later published only as: The Game. Why I don't know... the first title is better.

Ryan | 6 comments It does seem to be the book! Thanks for the accurate and speedy reply. I see, going by the synopsis, some of the details I've mis-remembered; It has been a very long time. :)

bookel | 4027 comments Yay! It's an excellent book as are Monica Hughes' other science fiction stories.

Ryan | 6 comments Yes, I do remember it being a good read, probably why it's memory has lingered so long without any active thought. I'll have to check out some of the other works by the author. Now.. Forgive my ignorance, but this is my first time on this sight and I cant seem to figure out how to move this thread to the SOLVED folder. I'm on an android device, and see no options to edit the thread on the normal site, the mobile site nor the mobile app..

bookel | 4027 comments It can only be done via computer I think. An admin will do it soon. Within a day I imagine.

Ryan--you and a LOT of others have remembered this book. While I haven't gone through all of our shelved books, I'm willing to bet that this is probably one of the most requested "forgotten titles" we have. You were number 9 to ask what it was. (And yeah, I did have to find a copy after the third or fourth person that I knew about asked for it. I figured it must really be something if that many people remembered it fondly.)

And I've moved this for you.
