Hello to anyone out there who loves Georgette Heyer and may be interested in attending our second GH conference in Sydney. We are planning a full day of Heyer delights on Sun 7 August, in Sydney in 2016. Do let me know if you are interested in attending - the first one was fabulous, and a day spent discussing Heyer was so much fun! Amanda

If it wasn't all the way on the other side of the world or I had money to get there, I would love to go! Please come back and tell us all about it.
thanks everyone - so sorry that there isn't a website, but we are working on a program now and hope to have it ready by February, and I will post details here. If you would like to go on an email list for updates, please let me know ajones12@bigpond.net.auI sympathise with readers on the other side of the world - I am constantly seeing things happening in the UK which I would love to go to!
I would love to visit Australia and mingle with other Heyer lovers! However, it is unlikely I can convince my husband to let me do so (from Denver, CO USA) Have a great conference and be sure to post any content.

A pity but I don't want to pay for a passport & then not need it!
Ah, get your passport for general purpose - you never know when you have to hop off to Aruba or Tahiti!
Yes you didn't used to need one from Australia to NZ. But as I'm travelling on a Canadian passport I also need a re entry permit for NZ & whatever the Aussies call the visa. You sort of don't just hop off anywhere from NZ - other than Australia we are a long way from everywhere!
My passport is currently being renewed, and I opted for expedited service, so I am hoping for it to arrive within the month. I get anxious without it being valid. I would love to visit NZ- have wanted to for ages.
A few days. We get to stay, & then her boyfriend gets a few days. Relationship is not at a vacation with the parents point yet. ;-)
& this arrived in my emails today. Love the name of the conference. Checking out a few things at the moment, but yes, I definitely want to go!https://gallery.mailchimp.com/510def1...
It looks like it! I rang the Australian & spoke to a machine that told me foreign passports doesn't have to be valid for 6 months after the intended date of travel (unlike most countries) As I have a passport I'm good to go.My husband is going with me & we are just deciding what we want to do - just go to Sydney or further afield. Yahoo!
I've booked my flight tickets & travel insurance, trying to work out how to pay. Through my bank is too expensive to be an option.I'm going from the 5th-15th of August. At this stage just doing Sydney, Blue Mountains & Hunter Valley (famous wine growing area)
I've never been to Australia so I'm getting excited!
I am so jealous! We went to Sydney for the 2000 Olympics which were just fantastic. We then went back to Oz in 2003 for our son's wedding on Hamilton island; we built a great trip around that happy event - Perth, Alice Springs, Uluru, Darwin, Kakadu National Park, Cairns, the Barrier Reef, Brisbane and of course - Hamilton Island. Would love to go again - but the thought of that 23 hrs flying time, (even broken into 2 halves with a stopover in the middle) is getting too much to contemplate - but hey, who knows!!

We left London on the Sunday evening - flew to Bangkok and lay-over for 3 hours while they refuelled! We arrived in Sydney on the Tuesday morning, so technically a 36 hrs transit but less 3 hrs stopover and 12 hour time difference - makes 23 hrs in the air! ). Swore we would never do it again, so when we flew out for our son's wedding we had a 2 night stopover in Singapore - made a big difference but it is still a long, long flight!!!

Now I see why there are so many health warnings about getting up and moving around during long flights. I'd never thought about lonnnnnng flights!
I had to go look - it'd be about 15 hours in the air for me to get to New Zealand! More than enough, but definitely less than 23!
Karlyne wrote: "I had to go look - it'd be about 15 hours in the air for me to get to New Zealand! More than enough, but definitely less than 23!"You could manage that Karlyne! Actually I am wondering where on earth you could have a stopover. Forgive my geographical ignorance but what about flying via Hawaii and having a wee stooover there? Then fly on to NZ or Oz? I have to say, in all seriousness, Australia is well worth a visit. NZ is still on out bucket list but I think we will have to save up for Business Class!
I know I'm in the serious minority when I say I wouldn't want to waste a day of vacation in Hawaii... Although it would be the logical stop!
Karlyne wrote: "I know I'm in the serious minority when I say I wouldn't want to waste a day of vacation in Hawaii... Although it would be the logical stop!"Well I'm pleased if I got the geography of it right - if not the right choice of stopover! For me, here in Scotland, Hawaii sounds so exotic that I imagine it must be glorious - but presumably not?
Oh, I'm sure it is glorious! But, strangely enough, I've never been drawn to tropical paradises - some kind of weird character flaw, I'm sure! We got to spend a couple of days in Stirling while we were passing through Scotland, and all I could think was how I needed about 3 months more to do the entire country justice. I'm still sad that I didn't get to the Highlands or Skye or Aberdeen or see more of Edinburgh than just passing through!
I loved Hawaii, want to back. Also loved Scotland, want to go back. Hawai'i is not a one day stop-off, though. We were there for over a week, and has just started to relax into the mellow "aloha" frame of mind. A book in the shade while I look up and watch waves, enjoyed the open breezes coming through everywhere, I really destressed there. Scotland was more seeing and doing, so much more I wanted to do.

When I go on a serious vacation, I want to go see things and do things and make huge memories. For relaxation I just head to the mountains or over to the Oregon Coast (when I'm lucky!).
Hawaii is quite beautiful. The big island has wonderful riding and live volcanoes! I am not a beach person, but the beaches there were nice, and they have a few different types. Calm and serene, wild and crashing with waves, and even black sand beaches. I found the volcanoes very interesting, and the temperature never got too hot, with the breezes. And the flowers and other plants and trees were amazing. It is nice for everyone to visit once, unless it is too far a trip.
As for long plane rides, going from the US to Beijing is the longest single trip I have flown. Even with stopping over a few days in Tokyo, it was tiring.
I wonder how flight attendants can bear to always be in the air! That seems like such hard work.

I hope you all had a great time. And I'll try to come the next one if you're running more.
