Carson | 8 comments Hey guys :)

I don't often post on the discussion boards here but I feel that I need your help in finding my next book. Here's my story... This is my first time on GoodReads in 4 months... This is very unusual to my often 10 times a day visits earlier in the year... Even worse the last book I finished was Off the Page by Jodi Picoult and that was in June! :/ It's bothering me that I haven't been reading and the only book I've read since then is Macbeth but that was for school lol. I've tried picking up different books and I get to the third or fourth chapter and put it down :( This has never happened to me before and I don't like it... I want to read but I don't want to read :/ I'm planning on picking up Mrs. Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children this evening because I've already read it and loved it and I hope it will get me back in the mood (also because I think my brother got me Library of Souls for Christmas and so I could marathon it XD) But if any of you have had similar experiences and how you got through I'd love to know! Also if you have any book recommendations that you think would get me out of this slump I'm all for it :) THANK YOU SO MUCH GUYS

Ashley (majorasbooks) | 3 comments I know how you feel - in August I surfaced from a five year reading slump, and I don't think there's any magical secret kinda thing. A lot of people suggest rereading a book that you fly through, but with the few new books I did read in that time, and the rereads, that never happened. I don't know why, but on my way to uni I picked up a book that had been on my shelf for years and I read it in a day and lo and behold now I'm reading in one month the amount of books I was reading in a year. You just gotta keep going until you find the right book. Good luck :)

Emily Have you tried picking up a shorter book or novella? That might be a good place to start, then you will more than likely finish it and feel like you accomplished something.

Ashiyana | 4 comments Try audiobooks. It could bring back the excitement of being immersed in a good story and ease you back into reading books.

:D

Carson | 8 comments Emily and Alisha Ali those are both fantastic ideas! I think maybe I'll start with reading a shorter novel because I have some of those more easily accessible... I don't own any audiobooks so that might be my plan B ;) Thank you both :)

sofia nunes ♡ (sofianuns) | 3 comments Have you heard of Sarah J. Maas? I know exactly how you feel. This November I ended a 7 month reading slump, that by reading one of her new releases (kinda) A Court of Thorns and Roses. I flew over the book sooooo quickly. IT IS MARVELOUS. It tells a remake of Beauty and the Beast, but involves war and kingdoms. IT SO GOOD. Now, I'm reading in a month the number of books I've read last year too! You should try it, even if I don't know what is your taste, I think it's a really great book.

Carson | 8 comments Hi Sofia! Thank you for the advice ;) I have read A Court of Thorns and Roses earlier in the year but I haven't read any of her other novels... I do really want to read more from her though, her writing is fantastic :) Thank you though ;)

Afreen Aftab Try a fast paced book that you've already read...thats definitely a recipe for success!! (psst...like mockingjay-it got me out of my slump)

Anna Katharina (AnnaCat22) | 5 comments You could watch some book related videos on YouTube :) they always make me want to read more. Maybe reviews of books you are interested in
you could also try to read a short story form a series you have already read.

Sharon Weitendorf | 1 comments This happened to me too. Lately I have been sticking to shorter books. I will not even buy a book that is 350 pages or more. Try something simple, no brainer type of reading. I would then just set an easy, simple goal to read maybe just 20-50 pages per day, just so that you are reading a little again.

Don't force it! Why not pick up some lighter reads, such a shorter book, maybe some simple fun ones with no complex plot or what about picture books, graphic novels, or manga? Something light, you know? Just to ease you back into it! ^.^
I hope this helps
